The infrastructure of your ground has not grown. You have a series of meccano stands and one very good one. It's hampering you as a club.
Two options are being looked at, gradually redevelop the ground, starting with the Stacey West stand being expanded or we move potentially to a new purpose built stadium but may not happen until 2026.
The ground is the same but the match day experience is very different.

Welcome Lincoln.

Not sure how your playing style will fare at this level, but imagine you'll make a decent fist of it.
We don't just lump it to Rheady as all league two sides will tell you, he hardly starts now. We're not a team of 11 giants either. We have Pett, Eardley, Anderson, Frecklington ,Toffolo , Andrade, Rowe and McCartan have all been regular starters for us and all under 5 foot 9. We think a lot of bitterness towards us might be because we have two former PE teachers beat them and the journeymen managers don't like it.
Granted they can get a bit carried away on the touchline.

The whole playing style thing is completely blown out of proportion by lazy opposition journalism and preconceived thoughts about us (although in our two games against Luton last season we were direct so I understand their angle, but that wasn't necessarily the norm throughout the season as a whole). For some reason, according to some, being a powerful and strong side and being direct go hand in hand for some reason. Ironically enough, it's the two ex-PL players in Sol Campbell and Michael Duff who've been most complimentary about our football.

Don't get me wrong, we're not total football and expansive like the top of this league probably is but we can mix it up well, as and when needed (trying to out-football Bury isn't a good ideal, nor is trying to play football on Newport's bog of a pitch either). You don't score 280 odd goals in less than 3 seasons from playing like a Tony Pulis side.
I dont think our style of football was praised when we won L2 6 years ago, needs must and all that.

Even worse when we were promoted in 95/6, when we only scored 49 goals (i think)

I didn't mean it to sound disrespectful - I have seen you play live a couple of times this season and both times you played direct football into Akinde and Rhead. I'm not knocking it, in fact I would say that if you get that style right as a League Two club it's almost a basis for success, but of the clubs who played that style who've been promoted to League One over the last few years (including ourselves), using that tactic at this level is often not that effective.

I don't wish you any ill next season though, I have nothing against you whatsoever!

Remember it well we played you at home early and you mullered us 3 0. Leo Fortune West and co. Think you only let in 20 goals.

I'm bias but I think we mix it up far than we did, certainly developing a more passing style.
Knowing how meticulous the Cowleys I'm sure they'll be planning changes to how we do things.
Very different from how we played in the national league that's for sure.

We're gonna piss this tinpot league. :box:

Just kidding. I'm just delighted to be here. I was 13 when we last got promoted to this level, and it didn't last long so I've not had much luck as an imps fan until the last three years. It's amazing where we are now, compared to what looked to be an eternity in the non-league. At points it looked like we would be in National North FFS.

I don't want to come across as arrogant but I reckon we'll be there or thereabouts next year, hoping for a playoff push. The Cowleys have continuously improved us and adapted the style and squad to each league we've been in so far. They started in Tier 9, I think, with Concord. 5 promotions in 13 years so they've worked their way up gradually. A lot of people said they'd get found out in League 2...

No worries about them moving on? I'm sure there will be interest from "bigger" clubs with them having had such an incredibly successful few seasons.

Hmm I kind of think Lincoln will fare like Wycombe, looking to be proven wrong though.

Danny seems to have been quite firm that they're staying. I reckon they'll have two tries at promotion from League 1 and then move on if we don't get up. If we do, then who knows. I think they feel our "ceiling" is Championship. The way the fans have backed them has really reinforced that: I reckon when they first got here they probably thought League One was the limit but things have changed.

Oh, and their kids are in school in Lincoln and they have just had houses built in the county.

If you do well next season can definitely see them "doing a Jones" and moving on. All you mentioned about them being settled, seeing you as a Championship club, fans backing them, "love" of the club ect. Describes him perfectly.

If they get a club willing to back them and chuck money at them then they will go.

They've already turned down Forest, Ipswich and Barnsley.

Well done Lincoln. Apart from an FA Cup match a couple of years ago, we've not played you in our current incarnation. Here's hoping that we get the chance next season.

Don't think we've played you for 12 years or so, and that was the League Cup game at your place (4-1?). We were stonking that game and it remains the only one I've ever walked out early from (just as Forrester made it 4-1 with 10 minutes or so to go).

No worries about them moving on? I'm sure there will be interest from "bigger" clubs with them having had such an incredibly successful few seasons.
No worries this end at the minute. It was important we got promoted this season, which was never in too much doubt.

They've stepped up one level at a time through their managerial careers (starting in the Essex Senior League - Tier 9) and seem to view leagues in two or three years cycles so I'm pretty confident that we'll get another two years out of them at least. They've generally got promoted every other season.

The reality is that we're not going to be able to consolidate at Championship level so this is about as far as we're likely to remain for any length of time as a Club but I'm pretty sure they'd like to give it a good crack to get us up one more league.

Already turned down/rejected approaches from plenty of clubs bigger than us. They're being sensible, though. They spent years trying to get into FT football and this is only their 3rd season in it so any other job would be a big risk for them, regardless of the size of it. Here they control basically everything and it's a decent project for them with a little while to run yet.

Today will be only their 135th game as full-time league managers, still learning their imho.
Ipswich apparently were very close to getting them according to their fans, ,bullet dodged there.
Won 73 league games, 94 in all competitions.
Be a great test next season to see how far we've come.
We've beaten a few teams from league one in cup ties but very different on a weekly basis.

Jones was always going to be in more demand because he was winning plaudits for the style of play as much as the results. Lincoln fans will deny it till their blue in the face but the perception outside is that they are long ball, physical and tactically cynical. Having heard a few interviews with the Cowleys they are obviously very intelligent and interesting characters and if they show they can adapt their style of football to League 1 then they will probably get a shot at a Championship team but they might need Jones to do a bit better at Stoke next season or Championship sides might just swear off bringing in any more successful lower league managers given what happened with Hurst already.

Do Lincoln still do that incredibly tin pot thing with the siren for every corner? Should definitely have left that nonsense in Non League.

Very sad we're letting Lincoln be Lincolnshire's highest team now. We've had that superiority for 14 years.

Hopefully we can stay up to play Lincoln next year seeing as my uncle is an avid Lincoln fan home and away and I've mentioned before the Cowley's were my PE teachers in secondary school. Think the last time we played was the league 2 play-off final which we won and was the last time Lincoln were in the league 2 play offs after 6 consecutive unsuccessful seasons?

We were in the PO's last season, but it was 5 consecutive ones back then (6 in total after last year).

Grimsby need some friends the way it's going.

We're up, Notts looking like being relegated, Mansfield probably up, obviously no Hull, Chesterfield in the NL as well. You're their last hope of a local game next season.

If Barnsley, Donny, Rotherham, Peterborough and Scunny can all be in League One, happy days for the travelling Imps next season.

I hope we can hold our own and at least compete, the Cowleys don't do losing very often so will be interesting to see how it all goes.

At the moment our local derbies are Oldham and Northampton I reckon.
