It was - I remember being at my nan's watching that one.
That's when I should of known what was to be in store for me picking Vale! my mate who isn't a Vale fan came with me to a game a few years back and we were cruising late in the second half and he couldn't understand why I was still nervous with the game seemingly dead and buried... still haunts Vale fans to this day!

Certainly a conversation starter when people see the Vale shirt as not really any others around me! Oddly my sister in law's fella is a Crewe fan though so we have that little family (not a derby though!) rivalry!
Football shirts are often a conversation starter. I did a little tour across south Wales after our match at Newport last season. Folk would stop me as I was pottering around some random seaside town and strike up a football related conversation.

I was in Suffolk when we played MK at home. The following morning in Felixstowe, an Ipswich supporter spotted my shirt, gave me a hug and congratulated me on our result the previous day.

I remember deciding to go to a few random games in a week once and I was in Portsmouth for their game on a Wednesday evening against Bolton (Premier League 2005/06). I was in Portsmouth all day Weds because I thought the game was a Tuesday night and turned up on the wrong day - that was by the by though. I decided to wait in numerous bars during the day and as I walked into one I noticed a few filthy looks. It was then that a lad shouted from across the bar that I was brave walking in there with a scum shirt on.

It took me an age to realise my Cheltenham shirt had come untucked and was poking out beneath the fleece I was wearing. Fortunately, before absolutely battering me, they let me show them it was a Cheltenham shirt and we had a good drink, but for about 30 seconds I thought that was it for me...

My father took me to my first match in 1959! i dont know who we played or what the score was, but i have a faint recollection of the sights and the noise and the smell of tobacco and stale beer and i fell in love with the club and the game in an instant, i was 6 years old that day i am 72 now and in all that time i have never lost my love for my team or the game. like everyone of us i have had good times and bad times supporting my club sadly much more bad than good going out of business in 1989 was the very low point but winning promotion to d3 in 1980 and winning the play off final in 2013 to get back into the efl were my high points, but no matter what we all turn up week in week out to support our clubs and long may it continue.

Christ!! am i the oldest poster on these boards? i think Millerbri is about the same age as me, is there anybody older?

You can indeed claim the record, I'm 72 in July, it's great to see there's someone as daft as me, still supporting our local clubs.
