It's quite possible that his job has already been offered to another party with an agreement in place that they take over in the summer. The board could just be wary of going down the City route of making a potentially dangerous/disrespectful mid-season announcement about it.

Though, to be fair, I don't see how we could perform much worse during this season so perhaps the incoming manager wants to bring in some players in the summer window and shape the squad more to his liking before jumping head first into competitive games.

It's also HIGHLY possible that Van Gaal's touchline tumble theatrics yesterday earned him a contract extension with the proviso that he pulls out similarly hilarious pantomime-esque shenanigans on a weekly basis. Football is about entertaining the fans, after all.

Personally i think Jose has a contract for next season. I think LVG knows it and the squad do and that's why they seem to be playing with more freedom in the last few games. Could just be because we're not playing Rooney currently and we've put Herrera in the middle finally of course, or they could be trying to impress who ever is coming in.
