Probably just a handful. Asian people aren't stupid. I'm not going to start supporting a Chinese football club because they call themselves Lanzhou Full English or Nanjing Real Ale ffs. So why would your average Chinese/Malaysian/Vietnamese/15yo schoolkid from High Wycombe start 'supporting' a team because it recently changed it's name to that of a wild beast.

Call me an ignorant c**t, but did large swathes of Africa, Asia, Australia, the Middle East and Stevenage start supporting Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City or Liverpool because they had some kind of "lucky Asian/African talismanic" quality? Fuck no. They were good football teams for a long time (I'm using the phrase "long time" in the loosest sense for Man City, obviously).

Curiously, and contrary to common perception, having a lucky colour and being associated with a fucking dragon doesn't stop you being relegated. And when you get relegated into the Championship, you might as well be relegated into the Tunisian Conference South for all the 'brand coverage' you are going to get on prime-time TV in Zambia, Vietnam and even in Tunisia. When you're not in the Premiership, Hull Tigers, Cardiff City, Airbus UK and Gosport Borough are all pretty much of a muchness to your "massive market" in the tropics.

Hull's owner had better pray that Hull never get relegated because, as Tan has found out, football clubs can be the quickest way to being a millionaire, from your start as a billionaire. If you lose a big chunk of your domestic support (you know, the lads working down the factory and the old chap with the whippet), your ground looks empty for those JPT ties which, funnily enough, don't seem to appeal as much to that massive Asian/African following.

I'm sure this sounded like a trenchant bit of TOUGH TRUTH-ing in your head, but what does that actually mean, in practice? That football fans should train in the art of clairvoyancy, lest anyone they're inclined to think positively of subsequently turns out to be a bit of a willy? That writing some big cheques is a licence to act petulantly, as a demagogue, and/or incompetently, and without censure or opposition? That they should disdain any benefactor as a point of principle, lest Faustian "consequences" ensue, and the army of 92-ing English Football Fans Best Sports Fans in the World Definitely descend from their base metal thrones and say I TOLD YOU SO?

City were in the financial mire. Allam bailed them out of it (in the form of loans, granted, but still). They got promoted. Things were good. People expressed warmth and gratitude accordingly. Time elapsed. This here bad thing started to happen. The warmth and gratitude ebbed accordingly. In response Allam said and did more bad things. He (and the club at large) carried on doing quite a lot of stupid, incompetent and tone deaf off field things for about 2 years. Aforementioned warmth and gratitude was usurped by disdain and even outright hostility. Accordingly.

This is how the world works. Existence. It's provisional. One forms judgements based on what has occurred and the information at hand. Trust, fondness, dislike, whatever, it erodes or accretes. You know when the politicians do the TV debates and the approval graph goes up and down in real time? It's like that, but in real life and inside your head.

Hull used the money for promotion and this was supported by the fans but unlike cardiff the name change was announced after promotion, they didn't sell their soul for promotion like cardiff attempted to do.

I read about three lines and got bored.

I of course respect those with differing opinions. I just see change like this as a wrinkle in the story and legacy of a club, a constant evolution if you will. Hopefully putting it across in pretentious and flowery nonsense will strike a chord.

Sadly Fans have bugger all power when it comes to their clubs. Hull don't want Tigers as a name. Cardiff didn't want red shirts, Mna Unite dfans didn't want to have a club saddled with debt & City fans didn't want to be one of those Gross massive money spending clubs they all used to complain about a few years ago. But sadly, fans get what the owners want to give because it's too easy for owners to just not care as there is always someone to fill the spaces in the ground. At least there is while the club stays in the Prem.

I really hope the Name change is blocked again but from the wording above it will likely go through.
