I would say Spanish.

Spanish is easy compared to German.

Mark Twain said 1880 about the German language

My philological studies have satisfied me that a gifted person ought to learn English (barring spelling and pronouncing) in thirty hours, French in thirty days, and German in thirty years. It seems manifest, then, that the latter tongue ought to be trimmed down and repaired. If it is to remain as it is, it ought to be gently and reverently set aside among the dead languages, for only the dead have time to learn it.

Took Spanish for a bit, it was really easy. Japanese is hard but it's a very easy language phonetically. I'd say English.

It obviously depends on what your native tongue is. For us Spanish/French/German/Italian are widely considered to be the easiest, aren't they?

I can't personally vouch for any of the others, but Korean is difficult and fairly useless in comparison to the likes of Chinese, Arabic, Spanish, etc. It's good for slagging off screaming kids or smelly people in public in the UK, though.

I went to a school in Cardiff in the early to mid 50's where learning the Welsh language was a compulsory subject and one that I really struggled with.

Japanese and Hungarian both have reputations of being particularly tough to master.

I speak good German and am going to tackle Russian in 2017. Looking forward to it.

Surprised no one has mentioned Finnish which is also notoriously hard to learn.

Yes, that's true. I heard it's related (a bit)to Hungarian?

btw: How German sounds compared to other languages :D

Short clip:

Full version :

edit: And here the "vice versa" version :D. The other languages "try the bullying" and the German tries to speak "soft" ;)

German is easy for people who already speak English.

I'd say backwards Russian is the hardest.

That's because English is a Germanic language. There are some similarities but the grammar is different.

I'd say backwards Russian is the hardest.

Could be true. Thank God that I was born in West Germany not East Germany so I had never to learn Russian in school. I have relatives who live in East Germany and they had to learn Russian as foreign language. They really despised it (the language as well as the Russian soldiers in town)
