It's a great tackle, I'm with Aaron. Don't even think it was overly forceful. Just unfortunately Judge got injured. If there was no broken leg and he'd got up it wouldn't even be being discussed. Injuries always make challenges look worse after the event.

I think this last bit is right. I'm not sure that I'd call it a 'great' tackle but there's no way he's gone in extra hard with the intention to injure an opponent.

There's also no basis to the accusation that we're a dirty team - we've got one of the best disciplinary records in the league (as we did last season).

I don't think he meant to hurt Judge at all but I don't see how it can be called a great tackle when he lunges in like that from such close range, regardless of whether he wins the ball or not.

Did he really lunge in though? It was one-footed and wasn't off the ground, didn't look particularly forceful either to me. Football would be boring as fuck without tackles like that.

Although I stand by my view, the picture in the paper today looks horrible. Also proves it was shin to shin contact.

Yeah, I'd say so.

Here you go
Hyam's tackle is right at the start. Then you can skip to 0:40 and watch the revenge tackle that some of the Brentford fans think is ok.

I've watched it a couple more times and it gets worse every time; I'd have no complaints if Hyam had got a straight red. There's some pretty potent hypocrisy in this thread though.

Woods' tackle is a shocker, no complaints from me if he had gone. The game should have finished 10 v 9 really.

Woods tackle isn't great - but you can see in the video the defending player has enough time to get himself out of harm's way.

For the tackle on Judge, he's gone in from point blank range, and right through both of his legs. How anyone thinks that isn't a terrible challenge is beyond me. There isn't a comparison to be made between the two. Wood's tackle is bad, but very unlikely to injure someone. Hyam would have to get incredibly lucky to not injure someone putting in tackles like that.

Interesting. Watched it on slow motion twice and he clearly gets the ball first. His trailing leg connects with the ball the leading leg doesn't seem to make contact, so it's not a two-footed challenge. I don't think it's a foul tbh, and that's coming from watching it in slow motion 9-10 times. It's really tough to call though.

From the Woods one, that's pretty awful and should be a red card. Yes, he gets the ball first but he sticks his right leg up into an unnatural position and on top of that catches him with both feet. Awful, awful challenge.

Thanks for the link ;)

Still doesn't change the fact that it's two footed and his leg ends up near Hyam's knee.
