I only watched the second half but it wasn't anything more than teams who are under the cosh away from home usually do. We took the sting out of the game at every opportunity, slowed the play down and took our time over GK's and FK's etc. Not sure what people expect us to do when Ipswich are clearly on top and are forcing the issue.

Frustrating for opposition fans but I'd be very surprised if Ipswich don't employ any of the above in a match this season.

We were under the cosh against Fulham and MK Dons this week, I don't recall any of the above, even the time wasting!

Don't usually bring up the money spent excuse etc but it's just too obvious that it's hindering us this season!

I've now seen 'cheating, diving, time wasting and whinging at the ref'. No idea how true any of those things are, but don't often see this level of moaning.
It makes a change for the fans to do it rather than the manager!
I can only remember Grant being troubled once and even then we had a defender on the line and when we had a half chance we took it. We didn't play open passing football because that is exactly what Ipswich would have planned for and they would have bullied us out of the game.
Not pretty but 1 goal and 3 points are all that matters right now.

I really don't rate Martin at all. I know it's ridiculous given his magnificent goal scoring record, but he's playing in a team with by far and away the best individual attacking players in the league, and gets some sublime service.

He may well be a decent finisher, but I think there are quite a few all round better strikers than him in this division.

Probably because you don't watch him week in week out. Finishing isn't even his strong point.

The thing with Martin is that to get the best out of him we have to play a certain way. There's no point lofting balls upfront all game or expect him to run the channels because that's not his game.
Get it into his feet and chest and get our attacking players around him and he's unplayable. Some of our build up this season and in the previous two seasons has been the best football I've watched at Derby in my time going and a lot of that is down to him.

No surprise last year when he was out for months we went off the rails. We had Darren Bent come in who scored like 11 in Martins absence which you think would fill the void - no where near the case though.

There's not many players like Martin at this level, he's certainly one of the better technically gifted players. I'd like to see a player with a better touch in the Championship! I absolutely love the man, he's fucking brilliant. Not bad for a freebie.

Oh JJH....
Genuinely.

Game of opinions, and I've watched him a fair few times this season what with you lot being on Sky every week, and he hasn't massively impressed me on any occasion.

Completely agree Ossie. Second half we looked so resolute. I can imagine frustration from Ipswich fans is that they had all the play but no real penetration.

For what it's worth, our fans are saying we looked better in the first creating better chances but did a job in the second.

Regarding Martin - give him support close by and he's the best centre forward in the league in my opinion. When we play 20 yards from him he looks poor. He hasn't got the speed or strength to do that job tbh. That's why he always looks better at home than away - we play further up the field, defenders and midfielders sit back meaning we play with less space.

So, disregarding the two games mentioned, can you honestly say you haven't or will not time waste in the other 44? An Ipswich player will never dive? Never berate the ref? and so on..

I've only made about 5 home games so far this season but I remember being highly frustrated by the other team in at least two of them due to the exact tactics we employed today. If Ipswich never employ any of them then fair enough, I tip my hat to you.

Berating the ref, no I honestly can't see us doing that! MM hates it so wouldn't allow it!
Diving I've not personally seen us do this season. Berra was faking a lot at Charlton but that ref was poor (stopped our counter attack because one of their players had the ball smacked in the nuts by his own teammate!).
To be honest the time wasting bit I agreed was to be expected but can't off the top of my head remember us taking ages to be subbed, take a throw, goal kick etc. We just sit back and shut up shop which is painful to watch.

End of the day, best defence won the game. You only have to look at the table to see our defence is what's letting us down

That's because he prefers to do it himself! 2 seasons ago he came onto the pitch as the ref blew the half time whistle and moaned at the ref from the centre circle to the tunnel, second half we didn't get a decision in our favour.
Ipswich had plenty of possession today and just couldn't break down our defence and all the moaning about Derby is just to cover up the real reasons for the defeat.

If it's the game I think you're talking about, your lot clearly targeted Williams to get him out the game! If you'd listened to MM on the radio, he was sticking up for your players today especially Ince when a lot of Town fans were calling for red (I didn't think it was worthy of red, a bit reckless but then again he didn't need to lift his let very high to tquality reach Frasers head!)

You'll see on the replay that Ince actually didn't touch him. (Or the dream didn't seem to show it). The guy rolled around the floor like he'd been shot. That's why ince's reaction was of bemusement

Got home about 20 minutes ago, having spent a couple of hours with some friends in Bury St Edmunds. The game was perfectly managed by Clement IMO. We scored and then shut up shop, at no point was I worried in the second half. In reality, apart from the winger who had his shot in th 1st half (Sears I think?) and the header which was cleared in the 2nd half, no real danger. I thought the game management was superb and if we needed to, could have gone up a couple of gears. All in all, a great day out!

I haven't seen the game, but I know it's a great away win and Ipswich fans are coming across as incredibly bitter. Every club has them, but I can't remember seeing it in such large quantity before.

My first question would be to why blame the ref? There was no contentious penalty decisions, from what I can gather, no offside goals given and no hint of anyone deserving a red card. In fact, I've heard Berra was lucky not to see red for a De Jong-esque tackle. I haven't seen it so I could be wrong, but it sounds like the ref had no impact on the result.

I'd just focus on the performance, I mean, according to the stats, Ipswich had just two shots on target. Apparently they didn't have one in the second half, yet I've read from their fans that their second half performance should have seen them claim at least a point?!

If I was an Ipswich fan, I'd be pointing my fingers at my team and McCarthy.

McCarthy, an experienced manager at this level, has been out foxed by an inexperienced school teacher on his own backyard.. and a team that should harbour top two ambitions themselves have had just two shots on target in 95+ minutes of football at home!

I'd be disgusted had we just managed two shots on target at home.

I guess it's easier to blame ref than look at your own side's shortcomings sometimes.

To be frankly honest, it was just the general inconsistency from the ref not just one decision etc. Berras challenge was much the same as Inces and both were booked. Fraser was definitely kicked whether it was his hands blocking his face, he was definitely hit, just looked at Skysports highlights.

I actually thought the goal was offside at the time and looking back it is very close! But we had plenty of chances to stop the goal right up to Gerken at his near post! Just really poor defending!

I don't agree MM was outfoxed at all, teams now come to us and play a similar game to us which works when they've got better players than us. Hence why you've won. Come on half your team are probably fit for the prem and that hasn't come cheaply!

Or the tea boy if you listen to Forest fans. Surprisingly they've gone a bit quiet lately.
