Bradfords an oddity though, would the wage be that much better than either Vale or Rovers pay? They get big crowds but the average fan probably pays half what we don’t get in so the overall income is probably not much better!

Does feel like we probably should of just taken the Portsmouth compo on offer in January in the end though, he’d have got his perfect location and we’d have not ended up with the situation we did in April. Would of been better for everyone in hindsight and sure he’d have done a decent job there.
Yeah hindsight is a wonderful thing. I would imagine Mark Hughes was on a decent whack to drop to L2, but he is a bigger name I guess.
DC probably regrets turning Leeds Utd down to sign a 5 year deal with us - even if Leeds sacked him he would have been set up for life

How can you say that when your last manager had a decent season last year then gets booted in Sept.
I personally think DC will get the chop if you go down, as he would have had a transfer window to turn it around.
Not many managers better for L2 though, although I hope you stay up for DC and geographical reasons (just not at our expense!)
I can say it because I understand my club better than you do.

Wade was sacked because we didn't score for the first 10 games of the season, neither did we look like scoring. He had a great season last season, but it's gone so far backwards over the summer that we even started to look poor defensively by the time he was given the push.

It would take an absolute disaster for DC to be sacked - even if we go down. If we go down fighting, he'll be completely safe. FWIW, the two times we've been relegated from this division, we've kept the manager over the summer (both were replaced by December of the following season though).

Seems like Warne is under pressure. I suspect if he doesn't won on Tuesday he'll be gone

No names being bandied about this end really, the Chairman did an interview tonight and we're start interviewing soon so I doubt we'll hear anything in the next 7-10 days, which will probably be the Vale or Stevenage game for the new managers first game.

A lot on twitter and forums seem "surprised" he has gone but it doesn't feel that way to me, poor results after a big spending window and expectation along with him calling out his player in public it just seemed a matter of time really.

Interesting to see where Rovers go from here in terms of appointment.

Was always likely. He's been well backed and he can only get away with his unsavoury side if the results back him up.

Usual caveat around managerial odds in the lower leagues and how a small amount can skew everything, but Nathan Jones was 33/1 last night and is now 6/4.

I have to admit, even I’m surprised at this

good riddance to the whining little bitch, sadly he'll probably easily get another job somewhere else.

Maybe we will get some favourable referee decisions now. Or maybe not..
Think we decided to get rid too early though

you just have to be careful not to get in anyone who's ever been in charge of Port Vale, otherwise you'll never get a ref decision go in your favour ever again.

I was thinking a couple of weeks ago that Barton will be in a bit of trouble soon. Aside from the good run to promotion, I don't think he's really done much there has he?

First season he came in and got no reaction out of the players whatsoever and got relegated with a whimper. Started his second season off badly I seem to recall, then obviously got auto's on the final day. Last season 17th, conceding 70+ league goals and this season very 'meh'.

Can't disagree with any of that analysis tbh

I think what helped him was Elliott Anderson, they were flagging in league two until he came in and was a cheat code.

He certainly pushed us that bit further, but tbf there’s no doubt in my mind that we’d have got play offs anyway

Now that Roland Wycherley’s matey and fans favourite Paul Hurst has been sacked by Grimsby, I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see Matt Taylor gone by Christmas and replaced by Hurst and Doig. It’s what the majority of Salop fans are wishing for anyway…

That would surely be a terrible move.

I cant agree that it's what the majority of fans want. Despite a few social media posts nobody I've actually spoken to has advocated for a Hurst return. His record since leaving us doesn't suggest a hypothetical comeback would be successful. The 17/18 season was a fantastic season with the team being far better than the aum of its parts, assisted with 3 future premier league players in Henderson, Godfrey and Morris.

I feel that the Gas fans will demand a purist of the beautiful game like Barton, none of this physical hoof nonsense.

Could it therefore be time for the return of Ben Garner? :shifty:

I hear it’s a two horse race between Garner and Holloway
