That's roughly what I've been saying.

If he doesn't get Dons promoted he stays a lower league manager because they have the funds and stadium to walk that league.
If they do get promoted he is back in league 1.
If he kept us up this season he would be a shout for a championship club in the summer. If we got relegated that would be expected so another league 1 club would probably make him an offer.

I do wish him well but I do question this choice.

Casey
Thing is though MK Dons can probably offer him Championship wages right now, and as you say have the funds to walk, what is in all honestly, a piss poor league (we have got promoted the last 2 times we have been there)

Reckoned to be an announcement this afternoon.

Any decent managers around....decent that would be prepared to come to Crawley?

With Wagmi I'm expecting a completely left field announcement. Maybe Cioffi to come back.

Ironically Monk was in the running for our managers job before Taylor got it, so we were screwed either way really

I suppose I should just be grateful that it’s not another recent ex-Wycombe player taking the filthy Franchise coin (like Russell Martin, Mike Williamson), it’s somewhat awkward when you wish the best for an ex-player whilst hoping (however unrealistically) for a Franchise implosion.

BBC reporting we have appointed Rob Elliott, fromGateshead, as manager. A few of the coaching staff too. Nothing from the club yet.

What someone does to us, we do to someone else. Maybe the transfer window for managers is a good idea.

If I remember correctly he is originally from South London. He played for Charlton before Newcastle. I'm not going to look it up though.

Casey
Spot on yep, came through our academy and left at 25. I really like Rob, he was always an ultimate professional and I'm so glad to see him get a chance at management in the football league.

We have done our best over the last few decades with ex players as managers: Curbs, Powell, Bowyer. So hopefully he does well and can come take the reigns here at some point

Stockport County.
Williamson needs to manage Crawley, Lindsey needs to manage Gateshead and Elliot needs to manage MK Dons.

He can’t stay can he? I’m all for giving managers time and I generally like to hang on to our managers longer than most but there’s a limit to even my patience.

7 points adrift is huge considering we are only 8 games in.

It was about this time last that Cheltenham sacked their manager after a poor start and were similarly adrift I think and it gave them a lot to do.

Yeah he’s gotta go I’m afraid, I had plenty of patience up until the Lincoln game, I understand he’s had lots of injuries and have perhaps been a tad unlucky in some games but we’re currently just a poor side, his substitutions on Saturday were just weird, the players just look clueless and have no direction at the minute and that usually ends in one way, I’m surprised the club haven’t already announced his departure.

Yes I’m staggered he’s not gone yet.

There are several bizarre decisions going on but the weirdest for me is that, despite all the injuries, we have been leaving our player of the season from last term on the bench. And he’s out of contract at the end of the season - if we weren’t planning on keeping him then we should have cashed in over the summer. It just blows my mind.

Our podcast posted that as things stand, we'd need to 'finish 14th' in real terms to stay up now.

Bodes well.

I know we’ve only played eight games but I’ve already accepted relegation. We’d need 49 points from 38 games which would far exceed anything we’ve achieved at this level previously and we’ve got a worse team than we’ve had previously too. Logically it’s impossible to put forward a sensible case for us surviving.

But you guys were over the moon getting in Monk -- Whats happened or not as the case may be. Must admit we're really poor this season but you made us look like Barcelona when we played you. If for any other reason he should be sacked just for signing Ryan Loft .

I have no idea what’s gone wrong really, or more like there’s nothing that’s gone right. Monk’s passing game tactics haven’t worked because he hasn’t had the quality of players to pull it out. That comes partly down to recruitment and partly down to budget.

Then the good players he has signed have by and large been injured or underperformed. His goalie choice hasn’t really worked either.

We have had a little bit of poor luck but that happens when you’re playing poorly. We should have beaten Crawley last month and we should have beaten Rotherham last night. We also probably should have beaten Blackpool (we should never have been 4-1 down if you’d seen the goals we conceded).

And if we were on 9 points then the question of Monk being our manager probably wouldn’t be happening despite how crap we’ve been. But we didn’t win those games and we’re bottom so ultimately he carries the can. But the problem is larger than just Monk and comes down to poor recruitment, poor medicals and weak budget.

Now I appreciate I was calling for his head last season, but Caldwell is living proof that sticking with a manager can be beneficial.

But, I guess we had the benefit of amassing almost 20 points before the wheels fell off last season, whereas Monk is unable to get any positive results barring one draw so far. So it does feel like relegation is nailed on if they stick with him for a few more weeks and nothing improves.

Is it poor recruitment that’s been one of the biggest factors, or is he tactically inept?

For the record, I now love super Gary Caldwell and I am so pleased we stuck with him. The club recognised they’d stitched him up a bit by not backing him in the transfer market last summer, which they rectified in January and we’ve not looked back since.

Seems to have the stay of execution at least.

We have been traditionally patient with managers, maybe that's just it. A Caldwell style resurrection or bust.

Having accepted that relegation is likely a near certainty I would like Monk to be given just a little more time. If I thought we had a good chance of survival with a new manager I’d say get shot now. I like what Monk was trying to do, and if we had been injury free it might well have worked. The players coming back from injury who could save us are likely coming back too late to give us a realistic chance. If we are going down I would like us to do so laying the foundations for something better in the hope that it will lead to a team going down with a way of playing in place for the next season. It’s a real is devil if you do, devil if you don’t situation. I think long term pragmatism is the way to go.

An ITK person on our forum suggests that the board are putting it down to injuries and have no plans to sack Monk. Reluctant to get through multiple managers like last year (even if they only sacked one anyway).

Gary Gardener better be like the lovechild of Wes Hoolahan and Zinedine Zidane if that is the case!

Can't vouch for the accuracy of this but posted on our forum over the weekend in separate posts:

Hurst - P28 W5 D8 L15 F25 A45 Pts23
Monk - P19 W2 D5 L12 F14 A34 Pts11

And Robinson at Burton is 29 L1 games without a win, including his AFCW stint.

Hurst has a worse record for us than Taylor when he was sacked last season. No chance he's going anywhere yet as a) the chairman was desperate to have him back and b) can't afford to pay him off anyway

Yes because no other club has injuries.
Presumably he is paid very well so they can't afford to sack him

2 wins in a row and MT lives to fight another day. I'm still not convinced but after spending that amount of money we have to give him until Dec at least
