Nope, we're still too shit defensively. We have goals in our team, we are clinical and take our chances so if we can improve defensively we'd have a chance. But st the moment we're a bit off, we need to back up these types of results, so we'll see on Saturday.
How bad was our defence today HG? Wasn't able to listen to any of the game on the radio but I'd call only conceding one at the home of the Division's second highest scorers a result.

For the 3rd game in the last 4 in the league we've created enough chances to take the lead, but we're failing to do so and its all mounting up on us now, the pressure is getting a bit hot on Hendon, the players have also got to take half of the blame here because we have good players who are making oppotunities or not picking the right final ball.

Whilst part of the reason we're in a slump is we're not taking our chances and its affecting confidence, our opponents are taking their chances and exposing our obvious weaknesses at the back.Carlisle took their two chances when they were on top briefly and put us under pressure, to be fair they also did defend well, got that little bit of luck needed in the last minute that you need as well as Simpson should've made it 2-2.

Carlisle played open as I expected and will win more than they lose this season, the fact that they lost to Newport Saturday yet won today means they'll be a team who will be very up and down with the way they set up and play.

As for us, I said we need patience this season and now the supporters have to try to be, it isn't as if we're playing poorly week in week out, but Hendon needs his team to start taking their chances for the time being, having said that our Plan B isn't working too well at the moment as we have a young side and with Paul McCallum out injured it will be interesting to see if we can get anyone decent in on loan, but I think it will be another youngster.

I'll watch it back Thursday, but I am now getting concerned. I'm imagining our attacking play has involved a lot of crosses as per - I'll drag out the actual crossing stat when I dig it up, but it's something like 1 in every 270 crossing attempts results in a goal.

I'm not really made up with dropping James - of course I have no idea if that impacted today - but I am very concerned with our lack of depth. We're relying on a couple of kids to come on for plan B...
For me personally, I'm a believer that if you are making plenty of chances in games, which in the main we have been doing you will ultimately win more than you lose, so I don't think there is a need to press the panic button yet as every team has slumps and cycles of good and bad form etc.

Having said that, if the same story keeps happening for the coming games for us, then taking chances or not the focus goes on the way the manager is setting things up etc.

Its now officially a bad run of form for us, can Hendon break out of it and prove to us he's learned from his past mistakes at Barnet?

Well to me it sounded like they missed countless chances, hitting our bar, blazing shots over, missing a one v one early on.

It's encouraging that we're only conceding 1 goal a game recently, but it still worries me that we aren't capable of keeping a clean sheet against anyone, because there will be days (like Saturday) where we can't score ourselves.

First of all, safe journeys home to the nutters who came down from Carlisle tonight - some of you have probably beaten me home, as it took me three hours to get back to Suffolk, but I digress.

That was a hilariously one-sided game, but we couldn't finish for toffee. Can't decide if we were unlucky (hitting the woodwork three times, every single half-cleared ball falling to a Carlisle player to hack it away for 15 seconds respite), the defending was great (couple of good blocks, Gillespie made a decent save or two) or the finishing/final ball was just plain shithouse in front of goal, but it probably wouldn't have been unfair if we'd have won by 7 or 8. Still, these things happen. It's worrying that we've completely dominated two games in a row and only picked up a point, but I guess if we keep playing this well the results will turn around.

What was Gillespie's save in stoppage time like? Heard some people say it was a shot given as a goal kick but that he did in fact save it, someone said it was one of the best saves they've ever seen - https://twitter.com/epouvantail/status/648959599727480833.

Edit to add: just seen a highlights video with this save in it. He did get fingertips to it and it was completely ridiculous that he managed it. Another game to add to the pile that he's earned us points in.

Keith Curle: man, myth, legend.

@joncolman:
Curle on his touchline spat with Hessenthaler: "I was backing my players up. Their staff were pointing the finger at my staff." 1/2
"I’m very protective of my players, staff & club. Noone tells me to get back in the box. If somebody gets in my face, I won't back down" 2/2

Curle denied being sent off on Radio Cumbria saying he was merely advised to go in the stand, Ian Hendon was clearly bemused

"All I know is that my assistant manager went up top to where he was meant to go, and their manager continued to coach from behind the dugout. I don't know what happened with that."
Curle was then advised to go further back in the stand for what he terms 'his own safety' but politely declined the offer.

The guy's a few clowns short of a circus but we love him anyway, certainly offers a welcome relief from the total lack of passion and communication from those upstairs.

Sounds like Burton away last season but with goal scorers in the side.

With my first team's defence (Gillespie in goal) and my third team's attack, we could walk this f***ing league - only problems are, we'd need to have at least 13 on the pitch and who would manage? Curle and Money deciding tactics would be a dream "discussion."

We could call it CUFC United... Football Club

Need to have a thread on who is the maddest manager in League Two. We're spoilt for choice with Curle, Money, Moore, Butcher, Allen and Moniz all managing in the same division.

Curle for me is the best manager we've had since John Ward, he can make some odd team selections at times and a few other bizarre things but I trust him as a manager who can take us somewhere and it worries me that he has apparently not signed a new contract extension which was expected of him, he probably hasn't because of the farce surrounding our pathetic custodians running the club and their billionaire fantasy.

It's not clear I don't think who hasn't done what in this whole thing. Listening to Lummy and Phillips on BBCRC after the Newport game, they were almost commending Curle on keeping schtum about it. I think they're of the view that he hasn't been offered the contract extension, rather than that has hasn't signed one that has been offered.
