Gillingham fans need to become nervous if there are any more sackings...that's us and Burton who are overachieving in the league who have had managers taken...Gillingham next as they are the only remaining side 'overachieving' you would say.

Sentimentalism involved in that one then, not sure it'll work out and they'll manage to sustain it up there to be honest.

Make or break for Clough. If he fails to keep Burton around the top 8 from this position then he will struggle for another job. If he does well in this position and Burton go close or get promoted, then he will improve his reputation again.

I really am delighted at the prospect of Nigel Clough returning to the Pirelli stadium, its not uninspired and nostalgic as commented on by another Brewer, its a no brainer, take a look on the fans forum as to what they think and not the muppets on facebook.
There will be no manager out there with better credentials or experience, experience of our football club and what is required. He's been at the last few games so knows what he has to work with, he knows the club inside out, the town, the fans and on and on. He has always maintained a close relationship with chairman Ben Robinson. Ben is seriously trying to get us into the championship(just pinching myself) as he stated at a lunch I attended recently, he needs hands he can trust and Nigel fits the bill perfect. His tactics may not have been ideal in the eyes of some fans at the sheep and Blades but they will suit the Albion perfectly. I really don't envisage great changes playing wise and see a fairly seamless changeover.
He asked his father Brian about joining Burton Albion all those years ago and in Brians own words "go on my son "

Uninspired

He will fuck it up for you, 20 years as a manager not 1 promotion has he? Was given a very big budget with us and brought in over 20 players of which 2 or 3 are decent but the rest are awful at the same time racking a huge wage bill up then he says last week he didn't fail with us. Fuck off clough. I know were doing wank now but adkins has cloughs shit squad and is trying to play a more attractive way with wank players that clough signed and it just isn't working.

Not trying to be pedantic blademan but he did win the mighty Northern prem with us and went to the sheep when we were already a shoe in for the conference. (McFarland nearly fucked that up with his meddling)

Not that it means much to you I personally would have a proper blade legend Mr Warnock to try and finish the job, back after 30 years now that would of been a fairytale.

Appreciate your view Blademan, he got us promoted twice, numerous good cup runs etc, like I said his style of management probably didn't suit the Blades but I am sure he will do well here again. Should be interesting when we visit Bramall lane later in the season !

He was 2nd favourite for the vacant Villa job for a little while so I'd expect some interest in him the next time a Championship side sacks their manager. I'd like to think he'd stay if someone did come in for him, but I'm not sure if that's just blind optimism... he left Newport pretty quickly to join us after a long time with them when they were doing well, so I guess it wouldn't be hugely surprising if he did the same to us.

I find him to be a miserable, arrogent prick who puts himself before the team i understand other managers are like that too but hes the only manager iv ever wanted sacked at sheff utd. On another note i still hope you go up even with him in charge everything about your club is run correctly and in the right manner it deserves respecting.

Nice post blademan, he can be all those things I admit. I thought he had done quite decent for you with the cup runs thrown in but it was evident Blades fans disliked him for numerous reasons. Do you think you would have fared any better this season if he was still there ? I'm amazed at where we are to be honest, for such a small club we are definitely over achieving, he has a difficult task to keep us up there but he would have been my first choice. I would guess our club is a role model of how to run a club.

Great appointment. Now please sign his mates from us in January :D

Maybe with Clough he works better at smaller clubs (with all due respect). I guess setting out for 0-0's will go down better than it did for us or Derby...not sure you'll think the same now though!? Also correct me if I'm wrong but did he not need plenty of time to get you promotions, time he possibly wont be afforded now?

As blademan says, good luck to you, I just cant see anything in Clough other than a boring and negative manager.

His 1st 2 seasons we finished 2nd in the Beazer Homes(Southern league) at a time when only the champions were promoted to the Conference, the following season we were in the Unibond league(Northern Premier)due to reorganisation and as champions we were promoted to the Conference. Gradually he improved us each year until we reached the play offs and the following year(just before he left) the Conference. We had some great runs in the FA Trophy and FA Cup too where we held Manchester Utd to a 0-0 draw at the Pirelli. So yes he was given time, and yes maybe his philosophy works better at a smaller club. He will get the time at Burton as he is still on excellent terms with the chairman and the fans trust him. He wasn't boring or overly negative here, maybe over cautious occasionally but overall the football was good.
Not sure of who he might bring in from yourselves, John Brayford began his career with us and if he can ever get fit would take Cuvelier.
Who you want rid of ?

To be honest I cant see you being able to afford many of their wages. Certainly not Brayford.

But any from:
Higdon
J.Wallace
Scougall
Alcock
McEveley
Coutts
Maybe Freeman
Cuvelier
Howard

I'm sure I'll have forgotten some as well. But pretty much anyone he signed bar Done, Adams and Brayford.

As for him getting time...surely you expect more from the season now than just a steady season? Will be interesting to see how he does as your squad is clearly capable already with a solid defence which Clough should love.

Play offs in all honesty, its a lottery then, but even if we lose in them I won't be down hearted, he will do ok here and at least we won't have to keep looking over our shouldn't every time a championship manager gets the boot !
No one stands out to me, has Cuvelier ever been fit ?

That's the issue Terraceman. They will all be on good wages and all are rank average which has really buggered us and Adkins up for signing more players. That has to be one of the biggest grumbles we have about Clough.

Fair enough, would take a real downturn for you to drop out of POs tbf.

And nope. Hes a real sick note, along with James Wallace.

Will be interesting at Bramall lane on 1st March !
Shame about Cuvelier, he lives just down the road from our ground.
Can understand your grumbles.

I really don't think this is going to work. Hope I'm proved wrong, and if so I will be the first to hold my hands up.
I just wish we could have seen who else was out there..a total leftfield appointment like jfh was. We are an attractive proposition, even though we are a small club the infrastructure is good so I would have thought we had a few good applicants.
Never know now.
I got back with an ex once and it was the worst thing I could have done as it ruined all the good memories we had the first time. We both thought we could recreate what we had and we couldn't. Time had moved on, and we where different people. I see this analogy with clough and the Brewers

Won't be interesting at all mate no game is. Clough being your manager will not make it any more interesting than the shite borefest it will no doubt be. You will probably be 25 points ahead of us by then too.
