It's always interesting to see how the teams from non league fair in the league. You'd think Chesterfield will be fine because they've been an established league club. Some players that look fantastic in non league just can't make the step up, that's the challenge I guess.

I think Chesterfield will be OK, probaby mid table.

Got a slight hunch whoever wins the NL Play Offs may become the first NL team to come up and go straight back down. If Southend somehow sneak in today and then win it it they're possibly an exception but I really cannot see Barnet, Bromley, Altrincham, Solihull, Gateshead and Halifax/Aldershot being anything other than right down there.

It's due that one goes straight back down. There don't seem many basket case L2 clubs around.

Perhaps not full on 'basket case', but Morecambe? Can't say I'm that knowledgeable about their situation, but the commentary around their deduction seemed to be that they're not in a great way at the moment?

Afraid not and numbers would probably have dropped for your second season as the novelty wore off and the tonkings took their toll.

There were 8 teams in L1 with a better away support than you. We'll probably lose 3 of them to the Championship but their replacements will bring decent numbers. Admittedly, you travel better than the other 3 that will go down with you but I'm also sure that Stockport, Wrexham, Mansfield and even Little Old Barrow will bring more to the Abbey than you were likely to manage.

Off course all that is said with fingers crossed as we're quite capable of screwing up and joining you in the very Northern L1 by presenting Vale (or Cheltenham) with the chance to stay up in our final game.
I doubt we'd be whipping boys again had we stayed up. We've been so poor this season because we somehow managed to get promoted into L1 with a squad most pundits/bookies expected to be going in the other direction and had no money to strengthen for this season. It would be like if you took one of the teams out of this season's L2 relegation battle, let's say, Grimsby and plonked them in L1 for 2024/25... they'd struggle.

We have money now... not getting ahead of ourselves and saying we'll start Wrexhaming our way to promotion by assembling a squad ready-built to compete in the division above, but had we been in L1 for another season we'd at least be able to compete in the transfer market with clubs like Cambridge, Shrewsbury etc.

Looks like as things stand it’ll be Halifax in that final playoff spot. TNT focusing on the other end and a proper agricultural game between Boreham Wood and Ebbsfleet:

Of the lot I think Bromley could be the ones most likely to be OK. Their physical low block with a sprinkling of quality would be effective enough to avoid relegation I think. Although fatty Woodman would be an excellent choice to replace fatty Evans at Stevenage so if that happens it could torpedo them a bit, the team is built in his image. Agree the others may struggle.

We're all Ebbsfleet aren't we

Looking ok for them with 15 to go. Quite enjoying the completely unapologetic route one approach in this game. After a year of watching our sideways and backwards merchants it’s rather refreshing.

Amazing how Tshimangas star has fallen in such quick time. Wasn’t long ago almost any EFL time was linking themselves with him and frankly he looks awful now.

That's Boreham for you. It's a shame for Tshimanga, just never the same player since his horrible injury.

Welcome back Vale.

Would love to say that spell in L1 was fun but it really fucking wasn’t. Only really confirmed what we already knew today. Very Vale to screw things up so royally but in many respects it’s a relief to be here next season. Next years L1 looks like it’ll be a bloodbath top to bottom.

Yeah. We'd get a record few points if We'd have stayed in league 1. We're miles off 75% of that league at this moment in time. In some ways, I feel like a complete reset will do us good. Feels like we've been constantly treading water for the past 18 months. We came up completely unprepared, having scraped in to the league in the first place and we've just not built a capable squad.

It might take us another 4 or 5 years but I just want us to build a squad with a bit of heart rather than these pathetic losers. We've had much worse teams in the last 25 years, but I can't remember any with less fight.

I’m glad it’s finally done, least upset I’ve been about a relegation as the club deserve it for the negligence to the football side really.

Odd season, lost the opener 7-0 then went 10 unbeaten in all comps, top of the league briefly late September, made the Carabao Quarter Final, had arguably the best player I’ve seen in a Vale shirt who’s now a Premier League regular yet broken various records for all the wrong reasons culminating in relegation.

Oddly the best moment of the season was against a league two side and we looked a class apart that night but roles are now reversing, good indicator for the Stags though of just whats needed to survive up there maybe.

We’ve had the apology from Carol, Darren Moore says he is committed to the rebuild so will have to see how that takes shape, we only have 5 or 6 out of contract players, so might be a few pay offs required, hopefully do all we can to ward off interest in Garrity and Chislett and build from there.

Carol is going to have to do something special to appease and hold onto the extra support we’d grown 2 years back.

The loan players were the difference against us who played very well that night. The lad now at Sheff cannot remember the other one.

Alfie Devine, they played well but even some of the maligned players Uche, Debrah, Sang had great games that night. Ojo was easily the stand out though pulling the strings… he’s got two more years and would be one of the best at this level… however he seems to be throwing the dummy a bit since Crosby left so remains to be seen what happens there.

The only real positive is our youth set up which is throwing a lot of decent talent out for the first time, the only thing Flickers did get right overall. Excited to see how Plant does at this level as he’s been decent enough out of position in L1 and Shorrock. Walters is another who we’ve offered terms too who was played in the league cup and Carabao and got man of the match on most occasions but he’s being eyed up. Also have Bailee Dipepa who’s broken through and scored more than our senior strikers in a few weeks, but he is being hunted by Manchester United so may only help us in terms of budget from his sale! Hoping the lower level will allow these to push on.

Arblaster and Devine. Arblaster is probably the best player I've seen at the Vale in 35 years. That boy will play for England. Devine had also really started to come into his own but Plymouth have played him in a position that he's nowhere near as good in and he's struggled.

Amazing how 2 years on from your really disappointing performance at Wembley, you now replace us in league 1. Funny how football goes in circles.

You deserve success because of your magnificent fans, who were brilliant at Wembley and magnanimous in defeat. I've really wished you the best since that day.

We'll be back in league 1 again at some point. I just hope we're much better prepared next time.

I think Vale will be competing next season, with Stockport, Wrexham and Mansfield gone it will ease a bit next season in my opinion. If I was in L2 next year I would want MK to win the play offs too.

A lot of our fans want us to raid MK for the manager… purely because he’s a Vale fan! MK going up would be ideal, would rather keep Crewe and Walsall down for the local games, get Solihull or Altrincham up, Burton with us and could be quite a decent amount of local games.

Wonder if Walsall will still obsess with us now DC has gone or pick on Cheltenham now!

I'd never wish success to that club but I'd gladly see them go up so we don't have to play them. Franchise supporters don't need to respond as I have most or all of them blocked. Fuck them.

Feel free to poach our current manager if you wish he still splits our fanbase fucked up again today putting kids up against Andy Cook when we had a beast of a centre back on the bench at this level who would have dealt with him.

Seems like you’ve had a half decent season from a distance. Still a shout at the playoffs even if it looks a pretty low total required to make them compared to a few seasons. Darren Moore will and should get at least a window to work with his own players anyway.

yep and the apparent attitude of the local council - that's going to go down well in the local elections in a few weeks.

Surely you'd they'd arrange it so Alty get the bye over Solihull being the higher placed team?

What criteria have they failed to meet? Huge shame for them after all the hard work to get there.

Would have thought the better option would be to admit 8th place Aldershot into the playoffs instead than a straight up bye? Can’t imagine TNT would be happy if they were due to show the game. Shame for Gateshead, know it used to be a regular thing in the early 90’s of sides from that league not being allowed to go up due to their stadiums.

This decision is based on the club failing to meet the 10-year security of tenure at their stadium, required for new teams applying to enter the EFL which was required by 1 March 2024.

The club requested a 10-year security of tenure from Gateshead Council. This was refused. The National League wrote to the council in support of the application by the club highlighting the impact on the club, its supporters, and the local community if the security was not given.
