Sadly, as Jez George seems a generally good guy and I like Cambridge as a club, I'm not really surprised. Whilst in the Conference, he campaigned strongly for better funding for youth sides BUT only for former FL clubs - remember us being a tad pissed off at the time.

There is a finite amount of money so youth team funding will not filter down through all non-league sides. I think Jez's point was more that if sides have the infrastructure to have run a youth academy of decent size before then it's a shame to see that fall apart upon relegation from the football league due to lack of FA funding. I agree with your sentiments that a club such as AFC Wimbledon being excluded from that is grossly unfair (and frankly wrong) and I think Jez's words on that were a little simplistic. However the "intent" was correct, just needed to be thought out better.

But I can't defend him on the B teams front. There's no justification from my side. It's not a well supported competition from Cambridge fans anyway, I would seriously question going to any games until the regional final anyway but would certainly avoid it if B teams took part and I think most Cambridge fans would be the same.

What's poor about that? they wasn't consulted so couldn't do anything about it and are now asking fans to get in touch before a formal vote happens. I don't see anything poor about that.

Poor as in the sense that he Northampton board members should've just dismissed the idea at its conception. Rather than agreeing for it to be discussed at a further meeting.

My club had the bollox to dismiss this crazy idea immediately, why couldn't others?

Because in this unfortunate world there are clubs who are incredibly short termist, who want to hear what financial settlement they'd receive from the Premier League then accept and spunk it all on crap journeymen in a half-hearted promotion challenge.

When sides like Wycombe and Yeovil are scrapping Youth Academies just so they can get a couple more experienced pros in it just shows you the short termist nature that professional football is riddled with.

Trinidad has it spot on really, the short-term financial aspect of football has murdered good ideas and reasonable debate.

to be honest I think they fear the prem will force a League 3 which is what I expect anyway to happen and this is their hope to dodge that.

I'd rather the L1/L2/conf teams unite and throw what I'd think a massive cog in the works by demanding the resignation of Dyke due to him in the eyes of the lower league being as such unfit for purpose running the English football association.

It may or may not get shot of him, but the superb publicity of an open attack on the head of the Fa may remove all B team clap-trap.

The minute we allow the Premierhite B teams into the JPT, they will have their greedy corpulent foot in the door and we'll be powerless to stop them enforcing League 3 upon us in the future.

Do like BigDave's idea though.

As I posted yesterday before it was wiped off, our MD was questioned on this in a 'Player' interview during the week, and from the way he was speaking, talking what the money could and would do for us if it were to happen, I'm pretty sure we as a club will be voting for this to go through whenever the vote takes place in July. Clearly the sweetener of the money has tempted us, as I'm sure is the case for most clubs of our size.

Wish we'd reject it, but I can't see it personally.
