Evan Gumbs? What a name.

I'm not sure but I don't think we've got anyone under contract past this season.

Keep

Rhys Taylor - not our player but Newport don't seem to want him. Nice to have a keeper again

Manny Smith- been a poor season by his standards but he's a quality defender.

Blair Hudson - I might be alone in this as some of our fans don't rate him but he's shown improvement and he and Smith have a decent understanding.

Sean Newton- Again not rated by some sections of fans but he's a good attacking outlet.

Simon Heslop- excellent since signing from Torquay. Gives our midfield stability.

Adriano Moke- his form has tailed off with injury and poor playing surfaces but has been generally good for us in a central position.

Connor Jennings- he's been playing attacking midfielder as much as up front and has also been captain this season. As good for us this year as anyone.

Kayden Jackson- Has showed potent lately. Lots of pace. One for the future.

Undecided

Jamal Fyfield, Mark Carrington, Wes York, Lee Fowler (depends on injuries) Rob Evans, James Gray

Get Rid

Jamal Vidal (crocked)
Louis Briscoe (hasn't played what's the point)
Ross White
Jonathan Royle

Anyone else I've forgotten about.

The squad is short if a bit of quality. We need a right back and a new striker as a priority

Just listing a few of our players and not listing contracts because I can't be bothered.
Rooney: Keep
LVG: Get Rid
Mata: Keep
Rashford: Keep for 100 goals next season. I can hope.
Carrick: Keep
Giggs: PLAYER MANAGER

Mata is one I would move on, has never really done it. Can see why Jose got rid.

So many average players that need to go, Young, Valencia and Carrick would be a good start. Schweinsteiger has class but needs to get fit, if not I'd move him on as well. Rojo has been pretty poor as well, if a better replacement can be got I'd get rid of him as well.

You need 2 top class centre backs, might be worth a cheeky bid to get Terry in? Great leader and someone players like Smalling could learn a lot from. Blind is quality but would be much better moved back into midfield.

As for Giggs, I think he'd be better off continuing to learn the ropes off an experienced manager, doesn't make sense to have someone so inexperienced in such a big job so early. Someone like Ronald Koeman, Laurent Blanc or Phillip Cocu would be a better fit then Jose imo, who might be a winner but would be divisive. Interesting times.

Thought all the BELTS on here would appreciate some actual proper football talk about actual proper clubs for a change.

Far more interesting then fans going through their whole low quality squads, saying I would/wouldn't keep Joe Bloggs/Derek Milborrow/Ivor Hardone etc who no one else has heard of or gives a fuck about.

Get Rid:
James Constable - Not good enough for a top 5 side
Jack Midson - legs have gone
Michael Poke - Too good to sit on bench
Paul Reid - Legs have gone
Lee Cook - Ok in spells but not quite doing it
Kaid Mohammad - Already out on loan elsewhere
Ross Lafayette - Already out on loan elsewhere
Yemi Odubade - Good, but would prefer a complete change of all our strikers

Proper clubs like Forest Green Rovers?

I'd rather hear about teams in the division my club play in thanks very much. If I wanted to hear the opinions of Man United fans I'd listen to Talk sport or something. Or, you know, the Premier league board on here.

I was under the impression Smith was a decent keeper. Always been pretty impressive whenever I've seen him.

Good shot stopper but doesnt command his area very well and isnt very decisive. I just think there are better keepers available within our budget.

Really? If that's the case, why did we offer Dan Holman an eighteen-month deal just a couple of months ago? Or do you think we were just planning on playing him on his own next season?

We were never going to be able to keep him for a packet of Haribo and a Fruit Shoot. Worth a try, though.

How many strikers do you actually have - what's the point of signing people for the sake of it?

Why did you bother signing Lafayette if he was never realistically going to play - surely he's a similar type of striker to Constable?

Who have we signed for the sake of it?
We have 3 strikers who actually play as strikers, Constable, Yemi, Tubbs (on loan from Pompey).
The likes of Midson & Strevens, have never been played as a striker since they joined us. They only ever play in midfield.
Lafayette was signed by R. Hill bout 18 months ago, but is far too weak and timid to play at this level & he's nothing like Constable, who is all about power and wrestling defenders & arguing with officials.

I'm not certain of who is/isn't contracted for next season but...

Under Contract
Shaun Pearson
Josh Gowling
Omar Bogle
Harry Clifton (YT)

Defenders
Richard Tait- great attacking fullback and solid defensively. Would fit comfortably into L2, as he did with Cambridge. Keep.

Gregor Robertson- whilst fairly solid defensively, he offers nothing going forward and is pretty slow. I'm not sure he's up to it personally. Get rid.

Danny East- felt a bit sorry for him because he hasn't had his place back all season. Unfortunately, he's made some costly errors that have lead to goals and Tait/ Robertson/ Horwood are all better respectively. Undecided.

Toto Nsiala- Toto has pace, strength, prowess and he's also young. However, he sometimes gets caught out, loses his head and is pretty petulant. When he's on his game, he's brilliant. If he can cut out his errors, he will go higher. Keep.

Evan Horwood- arrived in January. Steady, good cross and no mistakes as of yet. Not sure he works with Monkhouse because he needs a pacy, attacking fullback with him. If only we still had Townsend ;(. Undecided.

Josh Sunter- Young CB, never seen him but he's been nowhere near the first team all season. Get rid.

Midfielders

Craig Disley- I'd keep him on forever if I could. The fact he's 34 and can keep up with most players in the division is testament to him. Expect him to retire in a couple of seasons but while he's playing, it should be with us. Keep.

Andy Monkhouse- he's an intelligent player but he is soooo slow. Needs an attacking fullback behind him. Not sure he offers enough without that though. Undecided.

Marcus Marshall- he's got the ability and potential to be great but he's a 1 in 50 player and he hasn't shown it once this season. Get rid.

Craig Clay- got displaced by Jon Nolan because, ultimately, he isn't as good. Great breaker upper of play but is woeful in the attacking sense. He's good backup. Keep.

Nathan Arnold- frighteningly fast and skilful and scores great goals...sometimes. Not very consistent and has had a generally poor season IMO. I'd wary of resigning him. Undecided.

Jon Nolan- He was brought in because our central midfielders were battlers, not creators. Nolans come in and now we can play it about more and we have someone who can actually take corners. Keep.

Josh Venney- small CM who has looked good when I've seen him. Keep.

Strikers

Padraig Amond- KEEP. KEEP. KEEP. Won't happen though unless we get promoted. He is just too good.

JP Pittman- can score goals when put into the team, but there's nothing really special about him. He's apparently brilliant for the dressing room. Undecided.
I agree with all of that except Nathan Arnold i would definately keep.
The games i've seen this season he has had a lot more good games than bad ones and is the sort of player who can come to the fore in the really tight games and unlock a defence with his pace.
I have missed around a third of our home games though so maybe in some of the ones i've missed he hasn't been so good.

He's definitely a match-winner, see the POs last season and Gateshead (H) this season. I just think when he's not on it, he is really ineffective. I'd keep him him on if we signed another good winger to go on the other side or as backup.

What's your take on Rooney? I know a lot of Chester fans don't rate him, yet he always seems to have that touch of ability that can be quite rare to find down here.

And how's Hunt done for you guys over the season?

No good football manager would play Midson in midfield. Teams that win leagues play players in their natural positions.

I like Rooney, but if he'd played against Aldershot we wouldn't have scored 8 (eight).
Hunt is one of the better signings this season, but needs to work on his tackling.
Apparently we only have Hughes, Shaw and Worsnop under contract for next season. We've improved defensively since Worsnop was dropped and Shaw .... words fail me. Hughes is an exciting prospect, but most of the rest have disappointed.

Under Contract (All players signed on until Summer 2017)
Defenders
Tyrone Williams
- Great potential as a CB and been playing really well out of position in DM due to injuries was also our first academy graduate so it's nice to see some success
Kennedy Digie - Not really seen much but has been playing well for Hednesford apparently. Will hopefully make his break for us next season
Zaine Francis Angol - Started playing well in his favoured LB but one mistake and he was dropped would like to see him back in the team over Kinsella
Midfielders
Ousmane Fane -
Been one of our best players recently and a classic DM who gets stuck into challenges.
Elton Ngwatala - Was our stand out player for a few games before needing an OP haven't seen too much of him but what we have shows we've got a very good player.
Arthur Gnahoua - Another stand out french lad who's shone for us. I thought Macc fans said he had no end product? ;) But 4 goals in 11 from the wing shows he does.

Out of Contract
Goalkeepers
Dean Snedker
- KEEP - Been one of the reasons our scorelines have been so low when he's played, been unlucky recently with dodgy ref decisions and the ball bouncing off his back to go in but still a great keeper and only 20. But realistically he could get another club at this level.
Jon Brown - Undecided - Not seen enough of him but at 18 he's still young and could go really push on.

Defenders
Jared Hodgkiss - Get Rid -
One of our best players last season but definitely a high earner and really not performed that well this season. I don't think he's captain material which hasn't helped.
Jordan Tunnicliffe - Keep - Another good young defender who has great potential but been unlucky with injuries this season.
Keith Lowe - Keep - Been the stand out defender after a shaky first 45 minutes he's really improved up at the back.
Nathan Millichamp - Undecided - He's on our club website but he's never made the first team.

Midfielders
Jordan Jones - Undecided -
Is he a RB or a RM or a CM? I don't know and nor do the management really. He's been alright this season but only when coming off the bench to secure the defence a bit more in the games we have won.
James McQuilkin - Undecided - He's done alright but nothing special really, he does add some experience though.

Strikers -
Gurjit Singh - Keep -
Was brilliant at the start of the season but injuries stopped him could be very good in the North next season
Evan Garnett - Get Rid - Hasn't shown anything to make me think he's worth keeping.
Omari Patrick - Keep - Don't think Gordon rates him but he's a quick and quite tall striker.
George Taylor - Keep - A youngster who probably deserves the chance looking at his academy record

On Loan
Luke Maxwell - Get rid -
Deserves his chance with Birmingham but doubt we'll see him back here again.
Kelvin Langmead - Get Rid - Too slow now and Lowe is much better
Lewis Kinsella - Get Rid - I know Villa are bad but why were their fans disappointed he joined us? They felt he should be playing for them, he's not that good at all.
Ben Whitfield - Keep - I can dream right?

Out on Loan
Lathenial Rowe Turner - GET RID AND WIPE FROM MEMORY -
One of the worst defenders i've ever seen
Aman Verma - Keep - Why did he go to Torquay again? A great player in my opinion.
Jamie Spencer - Get Rid - He never made the step up from Redditch
Reece Hales - Get Rid - Not good enough but can hit a free-kick apparently
Dan Sweeney - Keep - Looks like a really good winger and is only 17 currently at Halesowen but would like to see him feature next season
George Forsyth - Undecided - Not seen enough off him

On the whole I'd still like most of the squad we've had since Jan as it's a major improvement.

Contracted until 2017:
Neil Ashton - though I think we'll get rid GET RID
Andy Haworth - I'd keep, but not sure if Cox wants him KEEP
David Mellor - garbage, will likely be binned GET RID
Ashley Grimes - can't see him staying, garbage again GET RID
Jordan Williams - well, an option to extend and we will KEEP

And possibly Jason Walker if we've triggered a new contract - again, he'll be offloaded GET RID
I can see us getting rid of five of the six.

Goalkeepers
Joel Dixon - shaky, but improving and only young. KEEP
Danny Eccles - Never played, but only a kid KEEP

Defence
Simon Grand - past his best and out of his depth GET RID
Niall Cowperthwaite - useful as back-up KEEP
Danny Livesey - still up among the better defenders in the league KEEP
Steve Williams - okay as back-up KEEP
Brad Carroll - never seen, but teenager KEEP
Ritchie Sutton (on loan) - we'll try and keep, and I would KEEP

Midfield
Paddy Lacey - not Conference level GET RID
Dan Pilkington - too injury prone GET RID
Alex-Ray Harvey - one good game a season GET RID
Alex Newby - young with potential KEEP
Mamadou Fofana - realised he was rubbish very early on GET RID
Elliott Newby - like his brother KEEP
Dave Symington - decent footballer though most don't rate him UNDECIDED
Andy Parry - starting to look a useful player, though a few anonymous appearances UNDECIDED

Forwards
Andy Cook - we rely on him KEEP

I'd possibly keep 14 players, though a few kids in there. We've got a core of a good team if we can keep Cook, Livesey and Jordan Williams
Agree with most of the above except still think there is room for ARH in the squad but if he's not going to play at least 50% of our games no point in keeping him!
Symington - what is he!! We know he's not a defender or a midfielder and too slow to play out wide at this level - so bye bye Dave!
Would imagine we will see another keeper brought in during the summer, so will young Danny be happy as third choice?
Jase the ace may just miss the cut at the end of the season, him and Ben Tomlinson very similar in my opinion.

I'm probably in a minority but for me Hunt has been really poor since about December, he was embarrassing at Braintree and Halifax in January/Feb and was solely at fault for a few goals in those two games. Rightly dropped for a bit not long after.

He'll probably stay as he seems immune from criticism because he just runs around a lot, though.

Keep - Grimsby. They bring a decent crowd and i'm just dying to know if Mr Hurst would still manage to hold on to his job when operation promotion fails
Lose - Torquay. Nothing against them or their fans but the little old man copying and pasting the fixture list has stiffed us with our away game on a cold Tuesday night for two seasons now. Until we are guaranteed a Saturday away game on the opening weekend in the sunshine they can just fuck off.
Undecided - Eastleigh. Lets face it nobody likes them and if they won the play-offs it would be good to be rid but at the same time do we want to see bankrolled hobby clubs attracting mercenaries like Constable being the advert for the National League?

So are United your first team?

Sort of yeah. My granddad worked for them for a while as assistant groundsman during the mid to late 90's. I got to come along to The Cliff a few times and met some of the players, which as a young lad was amazing. As I got older I wanted to be able to go to games more regularly with a few mates and enjoy the bantz rather then travelling for hours up the M5 & 6 with whatever family member would come along, so started supporting my local team instead.
