Good to hear about this. Harry was superb on loan at us, both on and off the pitch. A handy enough left back but really got involved in community and charity work in Swindon and one of the few players that I still follow on Twitter after they have left us. It appears he still does loads of stuff in Lincoln as well which is great to see.

I spoke to him once on the platform at Swindon station when he was on loan at Scunthorpe and he came across as a totally genuinely nice guy. Glad he is doing well.
Yep, he probably spends more time doing community and charity work and being out and about than he does at training!

One of the few footballers who doesn't have "errr" in their vocabulary when doing interviews as well...

Do you reckon Rhead will be offered a new deal? Just asking for a friend. :shifty:
Already (or should that be alrheady?) in talks!

Out of contract end of season

Scott Davies GK: Been here for four years now and was a massive part of the team that got us back up. Has a real connection with the fans as well. Makes the odd mistake, but what lower goalkeeper doesn’t. Keep in either division.

Luke Pilling GK: Seems like a capable number two. Plays for Wales U21’s regularly so must have something about him. Brentford were rumoured to be interested last summer. Probably keep.

Adam Buxton DR: Not played much this season due to the form of Jake Caprice. Technically he is a great player, fitness issues seem to let him down. Get rid if we were to go up, keep if we stay down.

Liam Ridehalgh DL. Very average player. Doesn’t have much pace, his delivery is often poor, okay defensively. Get rid.

Zoumana Bakayago DL: Not the player he once was. Injuries mean he can rarely play more than twice a week, and has lost his pace. Get rid.

Steve Mcnulty DC: Love the guy, absolute stalwart in our promotion season and a massive character around the dressing room, but his playing days are behind him it seems, at this level anyway. Would like to see him stay on in a coaching role, but he will probably go back to non league and get promoted, again. Get rid.

Manny Monthe DC: Pace, power, strength, never loses a header. He’s a beast, and will probably be playing in league one next season. Whether that’s with us or somebody else, who knows. Keep.

Evan Gumbs DC: Came through the ranks. Made his debut 4 years ago but hasn’t really progressed. Get rid.

Ben Tollitt RM: Not been the same player since his injury. It’s a shame, as he was destined for big things prior. Rumoured that he was seen at Wrexham last week. Would be shocked if he wasn’t a Wrexham player next season. Get rid.

Jay Harris CM: Another stalwart of our promotion season, but league two is a step too far for him. Would do a job for any non league side, although he is apparently training to become an accountant so wouldn’t be shocked to see him leave the game altogether. Get rid.

James Norwood ST: Give him anything, the freedom of Birkenhead. There 0% chance of him staying if we stay down, 20% if we go up. Ipswich are hovering apparently, and offering big money. Either way, he will always be loved round these parts. Best striker we have had since Aldo.

Cole Stockton ST: Cant even get in the Wrexham squad now. Get rid.

Chris Dagnall ST: Strange signing. Didn’t really need him. Get rid.

Paul Mullin. I like him. Works hard and scored some good goals. But since Jan just hasn’t been given a chance. Will probably leave, but id be sad to see him go. Keep.

Contracted beyond next season

Jake Caprice DR: Great going forward, dodgy defensively, although he has improved slightly throughout the season. He will be first choice again if we stay down, backup if go up.

Mark Ellis DC: Didn’t play much at the start of the season, but has come into the side since Mcnulty’s injury and has been great. Unspectacular type of defender but that’s what you need in this division. He will be backup if we go up though I imagine.

David Perkins CM: Was questioning why the hell we signed a 36 year old on an 18 month deal in January, now I’m questioning why we didn’t give him longer. The main catalyst for our surge up the table. He’s a terrier who can play. Love him.

Ollie Banks CM: On his day he can be great. Our best passer of the ball and loves an assist. Can be a bit of a show pony though which lets him down sometimes. Definitely rather we had him than not though.

Harvey Gilmour CM: Had him on loan start of the season, and signed on a permanent in Jan. Definitely one for the future. Would like to see him get more of a chance in the first as hes looked tidy every time ive seen him, and scored a couple of important goals.

Connor Jennings ST: Second most assists in the league I think. Never stops running and scores his fair share of goals. He will play whichever league were in.

On Loan:

Sid Nelson CD: Started ok, but broke his nose and hasn’t been able to get a game since. Don’t think we’ll be seeing him next season. Get rid.

Luke Mccullogh CM: What a signing he was. Injured for the season now, which is going to be a massive blow in the run in and playoffs. Hopefully we already have this one sorted. Keep.

Kieron Morris LM: Bit of a meh player to be honest. Looks tidy enough, but hasn’t set the world alight. Get rid.

Jonny Smith LM: Lots of pace, not much end product. Still young, so plenty of room to improve. I like him, Keep.

Ben Pringle LM: Seems to have fallen out with Mellon. Started off really brightly but has been frozen out last few weeks. Cant imagine we’ll be signing him permanently now. Get rid.

I’ve probably missed out a few, but that’s how I see things going. Norwood, Monthe, and Mccullogh are the big three to try and tie down. I’d take two out of the three.

Out of Contract

Sam Hornby GK - Able deputy I would look to keep.1 Year Deal

Leon Legge - DF - Experienced and decent for us - 1 Year Deal

Anthony Kay - MD - Release, good pro but need better to progress

David Worrall - MD - Frozen out by Aspin, immense since Askey come in - 2 Year Deal

Manny Oyeleke - MD - When fit one of the divisions best and crucial to us - 2 Year Deal

Luke Hannant - MD - Decent since signing from Gateshead - 2 Year Deal

Connell Rawlinson - DF - Done ok but out of favour - Release

Danny Pugh - MD - Past it Release but keep as a coach (current dual role)

Danny Elliott - CF - Worth more of a look as signed from college football in Jan - 6 Month Deal

Michael Tonge - MD- Past it - Release

Theo Vassell - LB - Not quite up to it Release

Tom Conlon - CM - Solid enough, I like him - 1 Year Deal

Dan Turner - CF - Kid with potential, i'd give another year - 1 Year Deal

Dior Angus - CF - Been loaned out where he has scored goals for Nuneaton and Barrow - 6 Month deal and give him a chance.

Current players in on Loan

Kyle Howkins - Look to sign on a 2 year deal, Monster of a player and done well for us over 2 loan spells. Be a big ask though as highly rated.

Mitch Clarke - Quality left back out of contract at Villa - 2 year deal

Adam Crookes - Been solid for us at left back, 1 Year Deal

Edser and Harris can return to their clubs as not really had a look in.

John Askey - Manager - 2 Year Deal!
I'd agree with most of that apart from I'd only offer Manny a 1 year deal due to his injury problems and only offer hannant a one year deal as if like see more end product from him get more goals and assists basically. I personally think hornby is too good to be a back up so can see him leaving. Crooks has been very good for us Clark is versatile play lb or rb but after a slow start has come good. Howkins needs games regularly somewhere and I'm sure West Brom will release him hopefully we will sign him but it's possible a team with a bigger budget or from league one could take him.

I agree with most of that. However, I think Caprice is better than you suggest and Morris will be signed permanently; I think he is better technically than Smith. Zoum has been good for spells this season, but is too injury prone now. It is a pity Pringle has fallen out with Mellon as he is another I definitely would have wanted to keep.

I think we're getting a squad overhaul regardless of what league we're in, lots of our promotion winning side are at the end of their deals. Priority is obviously to replace Norwood's goals, but with the right additions, we should be looking to challenge in league 2 next year, as Lincoln are doing this time out. Or, try to survive in league one, but the former is the likely option.

I largely agree with White Army and RLC above.

Of the players under contract next season, the only one I can see moving on at the club’s instigation is Paul Mullin, who seems to have fallen out of favour and has hardly played this year. Like Norburn at the start of this season, if irresistible offers come in, others may move on.

If we stay in L2, it wouldn’t surprise me if Micky offers Liam Ridehalgh another contract. I’d also look at the reserve keeper issue. If Luke Pilling has improved under the new goalkeeping coach to the extent that the manager would be happy to play him if Scott Davies was unavailable then keep him. If not release and get someone in who can deputise.

Kieron Morris’ situation may have changed at his parent club, with the departure of Keates. He’s a functional winger, works hard, gets a few goals, though tends to go down a few dead ends during a game. Would be a reasonable addition to the squad. Jonny Smith is a more exciting wide player, does the unexpected also gets a few goals, but has stamina issues. If there was the option of getting him
permanently, would like to see it happen.

I mean, I don't have anything in particular against you or any of the others in the undecided list, I just think that we have a lot of Notts County fans. I think if we lost Si Robin and Franchisor for example we would lost most/all of our MK Dons and Cheltenham representation and that would weaken us for the next campaign. The squad could probably afford to lose a few Stags fans for next season as we are well covered in that position. That said, even for his misdemeanours I would be sad to see Spanishstag go.

What he lacks in consistency he more than makes up for with his dogged tenacity. When Spanishstag is on form he'll boss the middle of the park opening up plenty of space and time on the ball for the likes of T.A and TimeyWimey. Never too far away from a red card, though.

We've had a poor season but I think with the correct leadership our squad is good enough to achieve a top half finish given the standard of this league.

If we keep 80% of the squad intact - including signing those loanees on permanent deal - we will only need 4 or 5 new bodies. That's a far cry from the 15 new signings we've had the past few summers which never works.

Manny Oyeleke - MD - 2 Year Deal if fit

Well I think lately we have seen the ability in the squad, defensively solid enough, great keeper and some quality in midfield.

Keep it intact and add a half decent striker or two and a creative midfield and we should be able to enjoy a far better season.

It's not as simple as we are making it, though. As previously mentioned, if Hannat is one of our top 3 earners does he justify a deal given the general consensus is that he isn't an automatic starter. With him, it's a two year deal if he's earning less than Oyeleke, Worrall etc. I wouldn;t want him earning more than a Conlon, for example.

Same with Legge. Assuming he's one of the top earners, do we keep him based on the theory that if we managed to sign Howkins, Legge would not be first choice. That's an expensive contract for a bit part player. If we're looking for a backup centre half, I'd rather keep Rawlinson if he is on (guessing) 1k a week as oppose to Legge on (guessing) 2k a week. It woul;d make more financial sense and could mean we could keep Angus and Turner.

:ffs:
That is exactly why football is such a great game for opinions.
At FGR last January 2018 i was really close to the pitch and had the privilege of seeing Monthe in close quarters.

He had all the dexterity of a new born foal and was possibly one of the worst footballers i have ever seen.

Fast forward a year, he played really well for Tranny at Vale and looked unrecognisable.
Weird.

It woul;d make more financial sense and could mean we could keep Angus and Turner.

Legge could be crucial with experience, I would keep him, Hannant however... he has potential and must be one of the most apps this season aside from Smith I would think?

Tonge and Pugh wont be on peanuts nor Kay, assume we release them three plus some deadwood potential is there to sort the striking problems. We are pretty much a Ferrari at the back but a battered old Escort up front.. sort the front and assuming we can perform this high press system Askey has implemented which suits us we should be a different animal.

What is the criteria for changing your mind. Proper wounded i'm on undecided, won't sleep this weekend.
Just seen this report online:
While darren gregory has shown sporadic flashes of what he is capable of, he's largely failed to live up to the heights of his superb 17/18 season and this has left Stringy in somewhat of a quandary about whether or not to offer the pacey winger an extended deal. Sources close to the manager suggest that gregory is playing for a deal, however sources close to gregory are suggesting that he is really looking forward to a few beers and some nice food every Friday from now until the end of the season.

I’d keep Ridehalgh as backup left back, we can’t go and just get 15 new players. Morris and Smith if we are in league two next season.

McNulty will stay as player/coach.
Strikers will be on the menu regardless of whether Norwood stays, which I believe he will.

Resigning McCullough if he is going to be fit for the start of the season would be a high priority for me too.

If I'm honest, I was mostly working off Darren Gregory being lower case. However, I've said your name a few times in my mind and it has a nice ring to it. Is he a former player or is that your name? If it's your name you sound like a good, no nonsense League Two centre half/full back. Not great on the ball, not the paciest but loves a tackle and not many get by him.

Winger?! Darren Gregory is definitely a defender
