It's a shame to see Sterling start considering how poor he has been in this tournament when he has played but hopefully he justifies his selection tonight.

Sturridge on the wing isn't ideal but he can do a decent enough job there and cuts inside a lot anyway.

That aside I think Roy's picked a good side.

All good players - yes apart from Sterling. Italy have just given a master class in how to play two up front. Kane + Sturigde/Vardy are better than Italy's front two. RH no tactical knowledge just pick players and hope. Already getting pissed it's going to be a long night I fear.

ROY (I've got no bloody idea) HODGESON

I'm not Roy's biggest fan. He's hardly an exciting, inspiring manager but I'm not going to criticise him too heavily over his selection tonight - the team he's put out should be enough to beat Iceland.

Really hope this isn't going to be the 120 minute slug fest I'm imagining, Sterling in the team is bizarre we aren't going to be able to utilize his pace, we need players who can unlock their defence and Sterling has no final ball. Hope we can stick a few goals past them and improve our confidence going forward in the quarters, come on England!

Yeah but we don't play a back 3/5. We could though but none of our players do that for their clubs. We've also only got 3 CB's and Dier.

Hoping to see Studge play more central and Sterling being given a bit of freedom to roam between the lines.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
And don't get me started on Sterling. We will witness the single worst performance from any England player ever tonight.

I'll just leave that there.

Get the fuck in there!

Nice run from Sterling and an excellent ball from Sturridge. Decent penalty from Rooney.

We've been desperate for an early goal and we go and get one only to concede a minute or so later!

You have to laugh.
