He's always struck me as a bit of a numpty but I can never tell whether he plays up to everyone and then gets even more stick, or if the stick he gets is purely for the poppy issue and what you see is exactly how he is regardless of it?

Can't tell. Having met him face to face, he is such a lovely bloke and has time for anyone. Also randomly met his mrs in a taxi rank 1 night and she wanted to get home to Crewe and was stranded, but again she was lovely.

People target him and others follow in giving abuse, without knowing why.

You definitely have some simple folk that are absolutely furious (without really knowing why) about him not wearing the poppy, but I think a lot is down to him being a genuine down to earth terrorist sympathiser who likes to play the victim card a bit too much, he even wheels Parky out to beg people to stop being meanies to him.
