You're in a similar boat to us then. It's going to be an interesting few weeks, it sounds like we made a last ditch effort to bring Haydon Roberts in and he still went to Bristol. Doesn't fill me with a ton of confidence that things are quite going to plan behind the scenes.

We're confirmed to be 10 players down on last season, 11 if Knight goes and that was the smallest squad in the football league.

Guess we'll just have to see how it plays out, we have some semblance of starting XI even if we have no depth behind it and I mean no depth at all. Wildsmith; Forsyth, Cashin, Rooney; Sibley, Bird, Hourihane, Smith; NML, Barkhuizen; Collins - assuming Knight and Bielik are off and we don't bring anyone in. We'll have to raffle off places on the bench for fans, but would be interesting to see how some overweight forty-something would manage in this division.
I’ve seen you mention that you had the smallest squad in the FL a couple of times now but I’m pretty sure we were confirmed as having the smallest (19 players) and two of them were out for the season early on so effectively 17 for the majority of the season. We had plenty of games where we only had 4 or 5 on the bench and they were all youth players minus our backup goalkeeper. Struggle to believe Derby had it worse than that.

If we are talking squad sizes, youth and injuries I think our squad would have been around 12 or 13.

I’ve never know a season like it for injuries. I hope we’ve learnt our lesson this season and not relying on such a small squad a young players not good enough at this level.

We appear to have beaten a number of clubs and signed promising young midfielder Terry Devlin from Glentoran.

I must say that this transfer window with a sporting director in place is proving to be night and day from the last two summers under Danny Cowley where we were scrambling for players right up until deadline day.

You used 25 players last season, we used 22. In comparison, Burton used 41 to put it into perspective.

I’d expect with a good manager like Warne in charge you’ll have what you need in time for the season to kick off. Few better track records than his in this league.

Regards the squad sizes you can go too much the other way. In our case I think we had a large one in terms of quantity (the quality and balance of it was another matter) which went against what Flitcroft and DC said they wanted at the time. Also had 7 loans on the books at one point which is a ridiculous waste of resources given the rules about 5 in a matchday squad. I’d always want a squad of around 20 plus the keepers.

That has to be for all competitions, surely? If so not really relevant as in all of our pizza cup games we played at least 7 youth players in all three games. One of them would also have been Aiden O’Brien who made a handful of sub appearances and then we fucked him off to Gillingham. Don’t forget the two (Udoh, Nurse) that got injured for the season both early on in the season.

Looks like it will be 3 signings in 3 days for us with Josh McEachran joining from MK. He’s an Oxford boy and was obviously with Manning at MK so a bit of a no brainer.

Singed Terry Devlin on a 3 year deal from Glentoran. 19 years old North Ireland U21 whos trained with the national side. Apparently some champ and prem clubs been looking at him. One for the future, but looks like Rich Hughes influence is starting to see these players come in

No, league One appearances - we had the lowest in league football football last season.

Sold one of our promising youngsters Dan Nkrumah to Middlesborough:

Played a handful games, very talented but also very raw. He picked up a hamstring injury last pre season which ruled him out for most part of the first half of last season. Ended up going on loan to Welling and did well there.

I've also been told we're looking at maybe signing a youngster on loan from West Brom, a striker called Jovan Malcolm. Played a few games for Accrington down here two seasons ago, only 20 years old.

Patrick Brough from Barrow has signed a 2 year contract. A very us signing atm, infact so much, he seems very similar to Ryan Haynes. + a very Carlisle accent.

I think the expectation that he'll replace Koiki in the squad (albeit not injured) when he leaves and Haynes will remain the cover option. Don't know much about him though.

Edit : Seems to be the general opinion of Barrow fans that he'll always work his socks off, which seems a very Brady era signing.

Nah, I'm not a Derby fan thank fuck.
Why? We've essentially been on a similar path for the past 20 years, in fact you've had more spells in League One AND you've had to watch games with miserable Yorkshire bastards moaning down your tabhole at every single opportunity.

I've sat in the home end a couple of times at Hillsborough so know how bad it gets - you see more joy at a child's mortuary than you do at Hillsborough on a Saturday afternoon.

I'd rather be a miserable Yorkshire bastard than put up with your god forsaken accent. Is that the child mortuary you attended when uncle Mick burnt the house down?

Not heard the podcast yet myself but our local media have been saying we'll be due 7 or 8 incomings this summer, plus replacing anyone under contract who leaves.

Also sounds like we'll be looking for a permanent GK this year rather than go with loan signings as we have done in the last three season with Luke Southwood being loosely mentioned on the forums over the summer.

Newcastle United have completed the signing of our youth Michael Mills for £200k.

The one positive since Flickers came in is the revolution of the youth set up, with four making first team appearances last season and a good FAYC run, one of Man City's big rising stars in their academy Joel Ndala was signed from us a couple of season back as well as John Clarke at Reading who's played in the Champ for them so hopefully we can really start to make good money through the investments made in improving it which we will need to be competitive budget wise higher up.

It has largely been a neglected area since the likes of Gibbons, Smith and Sam Morsy came through a decade or so back.

Surprised with the choice to go down the permanent GK route. The GK loans have been a great asset to us in the past three years. Can't remember hearing many GK's from L1 moving up the leagues for decent money.

Signed anthony scully from Wigan. At good numbers at Lincoln. Very happy with that one

Don't think he got much of a look in at Wigan and IMO not Championship standard but solid L1 wide attacker. Did well for us, plays on the left up top and loves to cut in before curling in at the far post. Has a tendency to run down alleys when the cut in doesn't work. Was fairly lucky to have some attacking left backs in his time with us - both Toffolo and Bramalls work rate meant he'd be able to chop in. Good player and good guy.

Exeter fans, what's Kevin McDonald like?
A Rolls Royce of a player. You can see why he’s played so many Premier League games as his touch and vision is superb. He had to take a couple of years out of the game due to a kidney issue, otherwise he’d be nowhere near league 1 or 2.

We offered him a deal but I think the fact he has a young family in Scotland means we don’t have much chance of him signing. At least Bradford is that much closer to home for him.

Is he close to signing for you?

Someone on Twitter posted we'd signed Ash Taylor three hours before he was announced and the same person is saying we've signed McDonald.

Sounds like he could be real quality in League Two. Sounds like the sort of player that we're actually missing. Assuming we do get him. Cheers, mate.

Bristol rovers fans, what is Josh Coburn like?

We are interested in him I hear.

Started off like a house on fire and formed a great partnership with Collins but became pretty anonymous for the last few months of the season where tbf we werent playing well at all.
Big and strong and spends most games getting manhandled by the opposition and getting nothing from the refs.
Scored our goal of the season v Sheff Weds but I wasnt arsed if we got him for next season. You are more local and he could probably do with another year in L1
Yep would agree with that. I’d happily have him back overall though, natural finisher who’s fast and strong.

He will go on to do very well I have no doubt. Good signing if you get him

He’ll dictate the pace of the game and plays these lovely simple but effective passes. He scored a couple of goals too so has that in his locker.

The only thing I would say is he did suffer a couple of muscle injuries which I think is a symptom of the length of time he has out of the game, so he may miss a few games over the season.

Overall though he’ll be a class above in L2 and most of our fans will be sad to seem him go.
