I firmly expect Porter to be our starting centre forward on the 12th September don't get me wrong. But we've also got to take into consideration next season there'll be far more midweek matches to get the calendar back on track. Maybe Mandron is cover for Porter for now like Anene was at the start of last season? Hence the one year contract. We all know Porter isn't going to play 46 games next season with his injuries, so maybe we do need that extra option of a target man in the side for those games Porter will miss, with Zanzala being a completely different type of forward to those two.

Porter doesn’t play as a target man though. Porter plays as a fox in the box. He has had to reinvent himself with us. He said that himself last season along with artell. We don’t play with a target man. We play possession based football out from the back. Because Porter is well over 6 foot, our fans inexplicably think we hoof the ball up to him, but we very rarely do that (expect Exeter away and also when we panic with a slim lead). So if this new lad is gonna be a success, he will need to reinvent himself, and play the exact opposite to what the Colchester fan said above.

To summarise, I hope the guy proves me wrong. But I ain’t getting excited about someone with a track record like his.

He’s just about ok, he’ll score a goal a month or something, just to remind you he’s playing

Callum Camps to Fleetwood confirmed.

A good signing for them, hope he does well. And welcome back as/when/if he falls out with Joey Barton...

Crawley have signed ex Gas Tony Craig. He was released at the end of the season so no fee.

Gas fans; he's 35 now so I'm a bit worried he may be passed it etc What do you think?

If there's life in the old dog a bit of experience in our naive back line could come in handy.

Finally some football news to talk about these past few days in Shropshire.

We’ve lost Josh Laurent to Reading (one of the most overrated players we’ve had in years imo)

Look set to announce two new signings on Monday. Scott High (CM on loan from Huddersfield) and Josh Daniels (winger on an a two year deal undisclosed fee from Glenavon).

Excited about the Irish lad coming in. First of many new signings in the coming weeks for us!

With a player of his age, you never know when summer might have finished them off really. Especially as its now March since he last played. If he carries on his form of last season, then he'll be one of the best defenders in L2, without a doubt.

He's a wise old head, with great experience and he's a natural leader. He really should have been captain tbh. I actually thought we'd keep him on and develop him into a defensive coach, I think all the fanbase wanted that too. He's tough as sh*t, will never back out/down and will always give you 100%. He can make a fair few errors mind, as can every lower league defender, but I reckon he's got another good season or 2 in him.

He had a shaky start with us and really went through some bad form, but he always managed to sort himself out. He actually got better with age for us, if I'm honest.

Good luck to him and Crawley, could be a great signing for you. I'll check back in with you next season as I'll be very curious to see how he does.

In for a loan of Arsenal’s ‘wonderkid’ Matt Smith - on the bench in yesterday’s Cup Final.

Omar Bogle also mentioned.

An outgoing player, Barry Fuller has left. He’s been a great servant to the club in his two spells, wish him well.

Where did you see that PUB?

On a facebook group, it seems he’s signed for someone non-league but on a two year deal. No reason to disbelieve it given we signed Jackson last week and Fuller was free to talk to other clubs

So this salary cap I keep banging on about... likely to be a vote this week. I can't believe I didn't think of this before, but apparently there are certain occasions where players are being paid partly by their club and partly by the owner's other businesses.

So you could have a scenario:

Wayne Rooney - £4kpw playing for Derby
Wayne Rooney - £76kpw playing for Joe Bloggs Ltd.

Is there anything illegal there? I doubt it.

Fucking right there is. We got demoted 2 divisions for paying players outside of their contracts. There’s also the famous West Ham 3rd party ownership of a player to consider.

Only one entity, the football club, can pay a player.

Legally, what is stopping any footballer having a second job? Look at part timers - look at Damien Reeves. Taking x from Altrincham and 2x from the building site?

What is the problem with Joe Bloggs Ltd paying Wayne Rooney £76kpw for "admin work" alongside his footballing wages. (Not that I like it that is)

If we were still under the auspicies of the EU, you could argue restraint of trade rules.

This is what I found on Google

‘Yes if they work on what is called a part time or amateur contract then they can have a job on the side and they all do. ... If players are well-paid part time at specific clubs then they use their spare time to earn qualifications, build a business or follow a career.’

We've sold Zain Westbrooke to Bristol Rovers for an undisclosed fee. Very good signing for them, he played a decent role in getting us up last season.

Sounds like we'll replace him with Ben Sheaf from Arsenal who was on loan at Donny last season.

He got better as the season went on, if Covid hadn’t happened we would have been in for him ourselves.

Yep good signing that, we're looking good for next season. Just another striker and possibly a winger and we're all set.

Would love Dominic Samuel, but he's apparently a replacement if JCH leaves. Could be after Jordan Clark of Accy too - which would really be a hell of an attack

Well, when everyone else is snapping up a few players to fill places, you are building a pretty good team. Presuming your owner is throwing money at you, how is he going to answer the spending cap if it comes in?

Players are back at Dale.

Rumoured that Chorley forward Alex Newby may be signing.

I'm not sure that's allowable, it's something Man City got pulled up for, albeit classed as image right payments, a few years back (under Mancini I think, who was also caught in it all by being paid as manager and a special adviser to a TV channel).

If a player wants to pretend to be part time he has to have a part time contract. Not sure the EFL would countenance that.

Don't see why not. Defender Bill Williams was a part time player for a long time for Dale and then Stockport in the 1980s and 1990s, Went to Man City for 6 months during his time at County on a full time basis, but only had a couple of games, and returned to Stockport and his family's central heating business.

Probably be more difficult today (I suspect "training" is more rigorously organised) but still possible, given common sense.
