Caleb Taylor from WBA (a centre back) has resigned on loan.

We already had him on loan and were supposed to have him for a full season, but the loan got cut short as WBA were lacking cover in that position - seems like they are back at full strength now so he’s back with us.

It’s still not clear whether we intend to sell another of our CBs, Joe Low, who’s had various Championship sides sniffing about - we may just be going for pure strength in depth, but we have also signed Sonny Bradley at CB (loan) who’s done very well so far, plus this 500k Danish guy who has only made a cameo so far - so we are stacked with CBs right now.

We’re like the reverse Exeter.

Essentially swapping Joe Taylor with Alli if we do this. At least Kone was a bit more of our profile being taller and perhaps a bit pacier, more of an athlete type. Not sure what Alli is like but seems a little short for what we normally go for, which is one of the reasons for letting Taylor go.
Alli is a maverick. He’ll do things which baffle you (not always in a good way) but he’ll also pull off something amazing too. His goal at Burton just before Christmas is a case in point - proper top drawer finish from distance. Think of him like a cross between Paulo Wanchope and heavyweight boxer!

He’s not that short, probably 5’ 11’’ but he’s powerful and quick. He has bags of potential and just needs to iron out some of the more agricultural aspects of his game. His form of late had been superb so if you sign him (which looks likely) you’ll have someone who can go a long way for sure.

We desperately need to replace him, as well as sign about 3 more players so it’s going to be a crazy few days trying to sort that.

Was described as a ball playing left sided defender. Started off last season ok but a bit lightweight. Got shunted to left wing back a few times and looked like a fish up a tree, giving an horrendous performance away at Oxford.

Hurst came in January 24 and first thing he did was leave him out of the squad totally as he switched to a back 4 from a back 5. Barely got a look in until the last few games of the season, where he actually gave his best performances, arguably man of the match away at Bolton.

Given he's another year older and after a season with us he may be a bit more suited to League 1. Based on the back end of last season I wouldn't have been too disappointed to have him back. Seems better suited to a 5 than a 4 at the back. Can't see him getting a proper look in at Championship level with Sunderland
Cheers.

Your last paragraph has improved my mood as he sounded terrible till that part! We play a back three so I guess he’d slot in as a LCB.

I’d take anyone at this point. Other than Ryan Loft, perhaps.

You want Hartridge back? He’s had barely a sniff with us (even in the Tinpot), as he’s probably 3rd choice LB and 6th choice CB right now.

Promotion is worth £8m+ to Wycombe? And Kone could be worth £10m if they go up?

Risky but it's a sign of ambition. Fair play.

Signed about 5 and haven't lost anyone, have they? Bar the manager.

Well, we did lose Aaron Morley back to Bolton, who was a key player for us. And we’ve moved a couple on, but they were squad players who were unlikely to feature much, if at all.

But yeah, it looks like our approach is promotion or bust, which is novel for us but perhaps doesn’t sit *entirely* comfortably with me - we’ve lived more or less within our means in the past.

Rumours that Wigan have signed Darcy from us.

I like Darcy, I think he's a decent player . Is he top half of league 1 decent...?

Twitter rumour that we've signed some kid from Rotheram for £125k. Been on location Sheffield fc.

Must be Josh Ayres, he's been involved a couple of times in pre-season teams and Virtue trophy early rounds but been out on loan at Buxton and now Sheffield FC.

He's a big lad but I haven't seen enough of him to decide if he will do a decent job for you, sorry.

Could tell he was a tidy little player at us but was a scrawny little kid at the time. Seems to have bulked up a bit, inevitably bagging against us when we play Wigan then

Looks like Cohen Bramall is heading to Portsmouth.

He is one of the fastest players I have ever seen in a Millers shirt but like Lincoln fans told us, his football brain sometimes can't keep pace.

Having said that he has been a match winner at times so good luck to him in his new club.

We seem to be having a clear out and ATM probably couldn't fill the bench without U18s being involved.

The fans are getting restless with Mr Stewart, saying he is getting his money out of the club before he sells it or putting it towards his new hotel which is going to be built next to the stadium.

Who knows?

But we need to see some ins before the end of the window or season ticket sales will be suffering, no ambition means some fans will vote with their feet.

Must have a decent agent because as you and we say, take his pace from him and there's not a lot there.

Any idea on the fee?

I remember you saying you would drive him to Bolton for 750k......Rumours that Cardiff are sniffing at 3m plus add ons.........Not a chance we would sell at that

I think we've all had that player at one time or another - pace and nothing else.

We had the wonderful Fola Onibuje, who was originally a sprinter (and probably should have stayed that way) - ended up bouncing around between a bunch of clubs, typically not staying for very long until the manager found him out and swiftly moved him on.

Look at this for journeyman creds: Fola

In our case, the manager at the time (Paul Lambert) signed him on the recommendation of a scout without actually having seen him play...that didn't end well.

:ffs:

We had tonnes in the NL, lots of the wingers are basically glorified sprinters.

The Mansfield lot will remember Luke Medley and Nick Wright who ran fast but had nothing between their ears.

I had to google Nick Wright, believed we signed him during Cox era, one of those signings purely to stop him going elsewhere.

Luke Medley wages were partly funded by the fans, this was back when we was properly skint, and he was useless.

Typically consistent wingers are the ones that do not stay at L1/2 level very long, they are pretty rare so end up at a high level.

I vaguely recall Simon Brown being pretty decent for us, scored double digits I believe in one season same era as Richie Barker.

Cult hero for us was ol' Fola, had him the year we first went in the Conference (almost going extinct etc) and he was a big part of us stabilising and surviving that first year.

Never seen a bloke so tall with a head so much like a 50 pence piece, but he couldn't half shift. Not that it mattered as he had no idea what his feet were going to do when he got there!

A few whispers we’re getting Ryan Trevitt back from Brentford. He had a good half season loan last year.

Matt Butcher to the Gas?

That would make sense, he's had very limited playing time this season and is down the pecking order with us, but is a good player and is too good just to get the occasional cameo.

I would say that's a 7 out of 10 signing, or if you can get him playing on peak form, an 8.

Simple, unfussy holding midfielder, but also pops up with the occasional goal. I'd happily keep him but totally understand why he's looking for a club where he gets to feature more regularly.

Makes sense as we were linked with him while he was at Plymouth. Must mean Conteh is out long term then which is a pisser with Omochere also out for the foreseeable.

We have apparently come back in with a fresh offer for Kone - up to 7m with 4 up front then 3 as potential add ons.

Think Wycombe could reject that and get more out of us tbh - we are clearly very desperate. All a bit mad

yeah, again it leaves us with no time to get in a replacement and it's basically junking our promotion bid if we take the cash.

I don't think we'll take it, but our board has zero communication with the fanbase so what do I know.
