Our first sub 100 away following for years in the league, club has hit rock bottom and yet there still seems to be further for us to fall.

I was surprised how poor that following was from Orient we would have taken 1000+ in similar circumstances.

Don't you get like 1k more than Orient at home? And Orient is a significantly more appealing away day for Vale fans than Vale is for Orient fans.

It’s a top of the league clash so expected more to be honest than they mustered. For context though we took a big following to Gillingham in similar circumstances which is further and isn’t an appealing away day.

On the flip side the weather did knock off a decent amount of the home support and that was a few hundred down on recent weeks.

300-400 is about the usual for us for a Saturday away trip to the midlands and further North unless its a new ground which usually boosts the numbers we take.

Would've been large numbers (1k/2k) had it say been the final game of the season with promotion on the line.

As tinpot as Crawley are, huge credit to the 105 that made a 6 hour trip in time of a fuel crisis to watch their glorious outfit adorn that knock off Stoke kit with such pride and vigour.

Clubs in the South East often benefit from bigger followings due to the number of Exiles living in London. I expect we will take more to Stevenage next week than we take to Vale Park, even though the distance is similar.
I can't recall you taking many to our place in recent years.

317 to Burslem in a fuel crisis is reasonable enough. Down below Grimsby, Wrexham and Notts are getting 600-1000 at Greater London games, even midweek, but all will have exiles numbering hundreds in the south east, surely Vale will have similar. Afeckinsight more than there are Orient fans in the Potteries anyway

Can’t imagine why a trip to the (even) shitter part of Stoke during a fuel crisis wouldn’t be well-attended, nor why clubs of a similar stature bring more fans to London than vice versa. Mystery upon mystery.

Depends if you like away days on a retail park off a motorway or in a city with multiple pubs many real ale or not…

Fans who come and go into Burslem and places like the Bulls Head rave about the away day.

Calling any following pathetic with the fuel issues around London at the minute is absolutely ridiculous.

Quite right. I bought a ticket for our match at Stevenage but made a very late call to miss the match. Not only was there a risk that I might run into fuel problems myself but it also seemed a little selfish to make a wholly unnecessary 450 mile round trip and use fuel that could be put to better use. I'm sure many others made similar calls at games all over the island.

I think the petrol crisis is a very real reason the away following was not as big as would be in a normal situation. It’s an absolute nightmare down south finding anywhere. In my case I travelled up from MK and was going back and forth on it as it’s virtually dry here. Was an eye opener I must say when getting to S-O-T as you wouldn’t even know there had been a fuel shortage as everywhere was fully stocked. Not sure if that has been replicated further north you go or not but it was a very different picture there.

My mates dad and brother drove to the game from Manchester yesterday, I mentioned the fuel situation and they both said they'd had no problems at all in Manchester and that its only us southerners acting like idiots when it came to fuel  they ain't wrong.

My uncle also drove up from London with a few of his friends (after getting fuel quite late on Friday) and he was shocked at how normal it was to buy fuel in Stoke on Trent! No queues, no issues, we're just idiots in London.

We had 50 tickets remaining for Sutton at the start of today so would hazard a guess they’re all sold out now. Just a shame there’s no chance of any more.

500 is enough for us to a London game anyway. I'd say anybody that wants a ticket will have got one. I can only think off Leyton Orient the other year and Barnet in promotion season where we took more than that. When we played Dagenham we never took more than 300 there.

Just a shame there’s been a delay in getting the extra seated part of the away end sorted.
