Midfield way too leggy. Needs a change or we're getting nothing from this game.

Haven’t started this second half well at all.

Dire game of football. Zero quality. Take a point and another clean sheet.

Never looked like losing but never looked like winning either. Dire game we should've won.

It’s taken 41 league games spanning 2 seasons but tonight Sutton scored 3 goals in a single game.

Bit routine tonight, weren’t spectacular and didn’t blow Crawley away but more than worth the win tonight

Carrying so many players, every time the ball goes near Costello it’s lost almost instantly, Gillead like all season runs about a bit, doesn’t assist/score/tackle guaranteed starter, Smallwood starts in front of more mobile forward thinking East, Platt keeping out Critchlow although nigh on impossible to drop given the number of clean sheets recently.

Sounds splendid! We have two plans to be honest - play to win or play for a point. Our 'playing to win' plan consists of simply having more forward players on the pitch than in the 'play for a point' plan, with no discernible change in actual tactic or formation.
Well we went with the 'play for a point' approach, and it worked.

Good defensive showing tonight.

Told yer.

Our Plan B was, yet again, bring on like-for-like subs and keep trying Plan A.

I was surprised when you did a like for like half time replacement with Madden on for Olaofe, I don’t think that was ever going to change the course of the game.

We set out to frustrate you and take a point, which we did with two full debutants, so it’s a very good point for us. I can easily see why you’re one of the better teams in the league though, we started with 5 at the back and two defensive minded midfielders in front to keep you out (don’t worry too much we did that to Brentford in the league cup and ended up FMing a win on penalties).

We play you in a few weeks again, hopefully we won’t have to just shut up shop by then

A draw just about a fair result in our game with Newport, on balance. Taylor should be scoring a winner in injury time though but put his shot too close to the keeper. Bogle should've scored for Newport in the first half. Incredible McAtee finish for our goal, awful defending for theirs at a corner (eerily similar to the goal we conceded at Southampton), though it had been coming.

Newport peeps- is Norman as good as that often? Would have him here in a heartbeat if that is a regular level of performance for him

Gillingham came for a 0 0 and that's why we gave them. They defended well, don't want to take anything away from them but we're just flat at the moment, never thought we were really going to score and as mentioned, no plan B.

We are certainly not carrying Platt. He has been very consistent all season, and excellent since being paired with Stubbs.

Didn’t mean to lump Platt into the others that we’re ‘carrying’, should’ve worded it better. My general point being that there are a number of subs getting little to no game time who are better than those starting (and Critchlow’s better than Platt in a direct comparison). Hoping to see changes against Newport. Last night being just another example of not beating a team in poor form.

I thought your style was a little odd to be honest. It looked progressive enough, playing the ball around at the back and keeping possession well, but as soon as you got within sight of the penalty area you kept slinging in crosses from deep and hoping for bits and pieces from the knockdowns. On the few occasions you got closer to the byline you looked more threatening, the quick interplay around our full backs caused far more problems than ball after ball looped into the box.

Mentioned last week the distraction our 2013 cup run made to our league form, seems to be having the same effect on you guys.

I agree with you Joe.

I think one of the reasons is with a wing back system our wing backs are forward enough to get crosses in but no far enough to get right to the byline. Our wide centre mids try to drift out wide but they're coming from too deep so we never seem to stand a full back up on a one on one situation.

I’ll take it but it feels like Hurst & the players will too. We won’t go down but it’s really tough to watch.

However with £1.5m in the bank and counting, perhaps it’s a sacrifice worth making longer term.

I don’t believe Walsall are as poor as our fans are making them out to be. They’ve only lost 9 games all season. One more than us.

Their problem is finding the net - especially after DJ went back to Mansfield.

They’re a tough team to break down and when they do lose, they generally do not get dicked (11 clean sheets).

If they sorted their offence out, they would be top 7.

Sure I read somewhere that all the money from the cup run is going into next seasons playing budget too so hopefully it will be a lot better next year.

I would imagine that a mid-table finish and a fantastic cup run would've been more or less what you'd have taken pre-season? That surplus money going into the squad next season can certainly push you on a little bit, I imagine you'd be able to strengthen nicely.
