Well I agree with that. In the last few years we’ve twice played teams away on the final day needing something to stay up, while they both had nothing to play for. Think both played pretty much full strength teams, and both had a good go; firstly Oldham five years ago were 1-0 until we equalised from the spot with about 15 to play and ended up surviving. Then a year later Gillingham came from 1-0 down on 88 to win 3-1 and send us down to L2. I could do without the stress of another tbh!

I seem to remember Barnet fans being unhappy with Cov’s effort v Morecambe on the final day last season for some reason?
Yeah, because it was clear that by the start of the second half both had agreed a non-aggression pact as both needed to void defeat to get into the play-offs and avoid relegation respectively.

Any player getting a first start or only making his 2nd or 3rd start will more than likely play 100% anyway. They want to stick in the managers head for the month off.
Its the players who are in the 40-50th+ appearance that will have both eyes firmly on the Costa del Sol! Knowing one game won't make a difference to a new contract or change the ranking.

I wouldn't call losing £2.3m being financially savvy, but I get your point about what would happen if not being promoted after losing that amount.
We were still solvent after our three years in non league, many clubs are not. If we had stayed down we would not have gone bust or dropped into NL North but we would probably have become another Wrexham. Our income actually doubled in non league due to the off the field projects set up by the board and we will feel the benefits of that in years to come.

We’ve spent over 4m on club infrastructure over the last 4 years. Accounts all over the place as a result.

The result of it will be 2019 accounts showing turnover of around 9m and a profit though.

Still a long way to go, all teams down here are scrapping for every point and I reckon we still need 3 points to be pretty safe/

That’s a big blow for us, but you have to hand it to Macclesfield and Sol, he’s done an absolutely fantastic job there. With their remaining fixtures looking kind and them being so hard to beat, it’s looking pretty bleak.

Almost feels like it’s operation get within three points of Crawley Town ahead of what could be an absolutely huge game on Easter Monday. To the extent that Yeovil beating them on Saturday would be fine if we can get a result at Crewe.

I think you're right Jacob. I don't see Macclesfield blowing it so we've got to overtake Yeovil and Crawley. Need to win on Saturday, draws ain't gonna do it.

I wouldn't worry too much, we're really not great despite our recent form. Unbeaten in five but mostly draws. Looking at this weekend's fixtures I wouldn't be surprised to see us drop back into the bottom two before long.

Two points is far too close to write it off, but we definitely need to do all that we can to drag an extra team in.

What we’ll presumably do is beat Milton Keynes on Good Friday to set up a massive game at Crawley which we then lose.

Although I'm in mourning after our worst home performance in 60 years of following Chester FC, I feel I had to say well done Macclesfield on getting out of the relegation places for the first time this season. I think you'll go on to avoid relegation now.

Macc pulled out the sort of result tonight that we haven’t all season. Would be no surprise if our respective recent home results against Exeter proved to be the difference.

Still, no reason why we can’t go to Crewe and get a win and get something against the Dongs as well. Staying up will be as great as any promotion I’ve known, that’s for sure.

Game 1. I can see Yeovil beating Crawley, Notts drawing at Crewe and Macc losing at FGR.
Game 2 Good Friday. is a difficult one as I can see all 4 sides losing, maybe Yeovil grabbing at point at Crewe.
Game 3 BH Mon. Crawley and Notts draw, Macc beat Newport and Yeovil lose to Colchester.
Game 4. Notts beating Grimsby, Crawley, Yeovil and Macc all losing
Game 5. Crawley drawing with Tranmere, Macc beating Cambridge, Yeovil draw with Carlise and Notts draw at Swindon.

Notts and Yeovil down :err::sad:

That isn’t true to be fair. We’ve pulled out results like that pretty regularly under Ardley, we’ve just also made an absolute bollocks of games we ‘should win’.

You beat us who are 23 places above you for a start.

You got a draw with Lincoln at home, wouldn’t be bad if you could get something from MK also....

It’s yeovil who look shot for me

Yea we've been watching everyone else pull out results like that every now and then for 3 months while we couldn't! You (@ Notts) beat FGR, Mansfield and Carisle; Yeovil beat Mansfield (admittedly ages ago); Morecambe beat FGR and MK; Cambridge beat Bury away; and Cheltenham just started beating everybody.

A week ago it was a clear 3 horse race but if we beat Crawley at home on Saturday - and we have to think we can - we'll only be 3 points behind them.

Yep, we’ve beaten 4 of the top 8 this season, three of those in the last two months.

If we do go down you’d have to point to the fact we’ve played 10 of the bottom half at home so far - and only won 2! In fact in 19 games against the bottom half home and away, we’ve won a grand total of three :surr:

Anyway, great win for Macc, looks like they picked a good time to play Exeter with Pym’s replacement looking as dodgy as the Grecians’ fans claimed. I don’t think any of their fans imagined they would get anywhere near 39 points after the opening weeks of the season. The only positive for us really is it keeps 7th spot alive, and our relegation rivals have to play a few of the sides who will still have their eye on it (Colchester, Carlisle, Newport). Will it have taken a lot out of Macc before a tricky trip to FGR? We’ll be hoping so, as a win for us at Crewe and defeat for them would see us get our noses in front again. They really have put the onus on us to get something, though.

What saved us was our record against the teams around us at the bottom of the table. Only Crawley have beaten us out of the current bottom 7 (they did the double over us), the rest:

Notts - 6 points
Yeovil - 6 points
Macc - 4 points
Cambridge - 6 points
Morecambe - 1 point (we're due to play them away)
Vale - 4 points

More than half of our points so far have come against 6 of the bottom 7 teams.

We have a more curious tale of survival! 8 of our 12 wins have come against 4 teams - Crewe, Northampton, Crawley and Yeovil!

So 24 of our 47 points!

I should have added “by scoring a winner in the 85th minute”.
