We’ve signed someone. CB Ryan Inniss, released by Charlton. Big lad who likes to get stuck in going by the state of his disciplinary record, sent off 4 times last season. Can’t imagine why Big Dunc would like him…
Solid from what I can remember of him, think that’s a good signing actually

Good signing that.

Ash Taylor is an awful signing for any league 2 club, never mind Bradford who id expect to see in the top 7.

One of his final games for us (if not his last game) was away at Hartlepool, it’s probably one of the worst defensive performances by an individual I have seen at Walsall, and that’s saying something!

He’s an arsehole off the pitch too. Hopefully the fans don’t moan about him on Twitter as he will search his own name after each game and start throwing sly digs at the fans.

Back to Walsall - happy with Ryan Stirk. Seems an upgrade Kinsella. A battling midfielder who can get forward, it’s exactly what Kinsella was missing from his game.

The fans have already been slagging him off on the back of the announcement tweet

It appears to be a rubbish signing all round. Though the exception seems to be Kilmarnock fans who both liked him and wanted him to stay.

Maybe Walsall wasn't a right fit for him, it happens.

He seems to have had a decent lower league career in England and top flight experience in Scotland.

I will reserve judgement until I have seen him play for us.

We were told the same from both Tranmere and Northampton fans, they were proven right.

However in Scotland they love him for some reason. Either shows the standard of the football up there or he has just struggled to suit English football.

Taylor will be backup but it is an underwhelming start to our business so far. I'm inclined to believe what Walsall and Northampton fans have said on here, they can't all be wrong.

He’ll be back up (as it stands) to Platt and Stubbs who as a pair did alright last season, better than Critchlow/Stubbs as a duo but neither comfortable with the ball and neither quicker than a sloth. Another Kelleher type by the looks of it, can’t help agree our recruiting is once again behind a lot of others.

One thing that stood out to me was in Taylor's 2nd season with us. We were relegated the previous season and were looking particularly vulnerable at the start of the next. For some reason he was also captain, every game something went wrong (not always his fault). But he would blame and shout everyone, not in a nice way or an encouraging way. I feel it was clear to everyone that was not what was needed at the time. But it just fit into a pattern of his behaviour we've seen from him on and off the field throughout his career. If you want dressing room harmony. you don't sign him.

I think that might in part be due to the fact they got promotion, although he did only join half way through the season. No surprise he hasn't had a promotion anywhere else really.

I don’t like Taylor at all but I’ll try to be balanced

Positives - can win his headers, big unit adds a bit of solidity

Negatives - very slow, gets turned towards his own goal he struggles, and his attitude absolutely stinks

Our theory is that strikers down here aren’t good enough to take advantage of getting in behind us two or three times in a game and will panic when they do and make the wrong decision. It worked in the NL with our defensive record, basically only Mullin properly punished it all season, but it’s a bigger test for it a level up. Although we were missing Brindley for almost the entire second half of the season who is our quickest centre back by miles, which didn’t help.

Richard Brindley plays as a centre back these days? He was a decent wing back for us at this level a few years back.

Omar Sowunmu, centre back from Bromley. Looks like one (minimum) more to announce today. Only another 10 to find.

He's huge, but was a bit of a liability when he was with us. Played like bambi with the ball at his feet.

Just hope he is around long enough to play at Bescot next season. He will get a lovely welcome!
And he lied about having covid to get out of playing against Stevenage
:joy:

Absolute scenes when he scores a bullet header to send Walsall down :woo:

Exeter have confirmed McDonald has turned down a contract so looks likely does that one. Dad's Army!

A walsall fan who claims to be ‘in the know’ (he has got a couple of things right in recent times to be fair to him) has said we are close to a ‘larger’ signing & it will be announced when the American owners are back in town soon.

No idea who, straight away Walsall fans thinking Danny Johnson but no evidence of that.

Apparently Gillingham were ready to hijack Ash Taylor’s move to Bradford and had a 6k per week contract all drawn up but then Neil Harris read this forum and said ‘fuck that Bradford are welcome to him’.

Ben Whitfield another name being thrown around. Presume someone has just made it up because he's from Bradford.

There’s a lot of lazy journalism going on. Just add a new manager to players OOC at their previous club and - bingo!

I think we are about done and all in time for pre season, it’s been a while since that happened. Some of the existing players might be gone depending how well they do in training which could see us bringing one or two more in. I do think our recruitment has been excellent

I saw one person make the connection and the next day two or three of those rumour accounts started reporting it. Almost certainly nothing in it, and can’t imagine Hughes wanting to pay decent money for a player that stopped playing before Christmas.
