About time you spent some of it instead of signing shite like Grounds.

Where’s all this transfer money going? Is there a Devonshire Lee Power?
This is a good question.

This year we've had about 5 million from Watkins, probably 500k in various add-ons and now potentially another 1 - 1.5m from Randall. Plus if the planned Grimes move to Fulham goes through that will be another 750k....

In that time we have only spent about 70k on players. Even assuming a very generous 3 mil is being spent on infrastructure and new training buildings and 1 mil is earmarked for the academy that still leaves well over 1 mil to spend. WTF are we playing at?

The Watkins money doesn’t all come in at once, though. We will get that spread over a number of instalments. I do agree though, that we haven’t had as good a preseason for recruitment that i and many we’re hoping for. Taylor massively raised expectations in April/ May time but we’ve only really brought in a couple of players that look to be better than what we had last season (Dawson in goal and Nombe).

If this season isn’t better than last, Taylor will be in the shit.

I guess setting up a club to be sustainable like you are takes time and money. Boring as fuck for fans but has a springboard opportunity to prosper big time in the future.

But Exeter have, or did have, the talent now. They are, IMO, risking it by assuming that talent will always be on tap and the legacy of those players who have left for big money will be wasted.

I realise this is the dilemma all lower league teams face, but at some time you have to invest in the team.

Gutted if Randall goes but inevitable I guess. We shouldn’t be holding back people of his ability really though. We seem not to be able to attract the right calibre of replacements. We have got some in and Nombe looks great, but with the money sloshing around we ought to be able to push the boat out for a couple of others. It’s a lot of cash as well, when you add it all up, our academy has produced some unbelievable sales for us over the last few years. But as fans we want to see progression. Is promotion to league one too much to ask, we’ve rarely done it, and when we do it never lasts for very long. Some say Devon is too far for some players to move, but if the money is right we ought to tempt a few more. We will definitely miss him and he will be more or less impossible to replace in terms of ability unless we push really hard, which I suspect we won’t. Pissed off if we don’t challenge this season

I don’t buy the location thing at all. Nice part of the country, decent transport links. There’s more to it than that.

Would Exeter never consider a training base 'further inland'? It's worked for us being based in Manchester - otherwise we'd be signing Carlisle's cast-offs...

We have a few regional development centers dotted around the SW as far up as Bristol but they are mainly aimed at recruiting youth players. We have a massive base catchment area for the academy and no shortage of young players, it's the older seasoned pros (25-29) who we struggle to attract.

Training 2 hours away just doesnt make sense when >50% of the squad lives in the area having come through the academy program. Some of the first team have in the past car pooled down from Bristol/Bath area but I dont think many are living up there at the moment.

I personally dont buy the location thing.

Odimayo re-signing confirmed. Massive.
He was my standout player of the season last season. With him and Payne announcing they are staying is massive news. Getting Grounds and Pitman off the wage bill should hopefully see us be able to shape a decent squad.

I would personally have preferred to keep Pitman as I think he could score a load of goals at this level but really pleased Payne and AK have signed. They are a couple of nice statements of intent.

We’ve released Ouss Cisse.

Was what we needed when he originally signed on loan, but last season he didn’t quite match the high levels he set in his loan after we signed him pernamently.

He has his uses, but lacks pace and movement which is what Kenny Jackett likes in his midfielders.

Also IMO having no fans affected his performances quite a bit, he got caught dilly dallying on the ball numerous times last season and seemed to be a bit too laid back with his performances.

We have signed 20yo midfielder George Broadbent on loan from Sheff Utd until 31 December. No previous FL experience, but has had loans at the somewhat eclectic pairing of Curzon Ashton (National League North) and Beerschot (Belgian Premier). A welcome addition to our midfield, and suggests that Olly Rathbone is likely to be with Rotherham imminently.

Hope he does as well as Rhys Norrington-Davies, our last loanee from the Blades.

Another loanee in at Dale, again for three months, but this time with FL experience - Full Back Corey O'Keeffe from Mansfield, where he seems to have fallen out of favour.

He was one of the best full-backs in the league for Macclesfield but never got going here, Clough don’t rate him for some reason. I think O’Keefe has had plenty of interest but we may want a fee for him, which is a tough ask considering he didn’t play at all last season.

I think he’ll do well for anybody in this division given the chance.

Crawleys twatter feed says there be a new face in our team for tonight's (final) friendly at Beckenham Town.

The back of the two players they show appear to be Powell and Hessanthaler so no clues there.

Our chairman said in his video chat today we are in talks with a highly rated young striker but about 9 other clubs are after whoever it is based south of us is all that was revealed as our Director of football is down that way having talks with him could be someone from palace at a guess.

Seems we have signed Will Ferry on a season long loan from Southampton academy.

20 years old. I've seen him listed as a left back, a left midfielder and a forward. Take your pick.

Bury fans may know more about him as he was with them until he was 17.

Cover for the midfield which is needed. At least he won promotion last season at Cheltenham but not sure how much of a role he played.

The Scottish press are reporting we are signing Ross Doohan, a Celtic reserve keeper, on a season long loan tomorrow. It would make sense, as Scott Davies is likely to be out for some time and we need some support for Joe Murphy.

It seems another loanee may also arrive tomorrow.
