We're being linked with a permanent move for Paul Glatzel. Any good (when not injured) Tranmere fans?
It's hard to know where to start with this.

Glatzel has injured a lot during his loan spells with us. Think he's had an operation now to fix the problem, so hope that's worked.

When he started with Rovers, he was like many top flight youth team players, a good footballing brain and ability, but not the physical strength to cope with L2. He'd come back from one serious injury at the time of his initial loan. He was left out of the squad entirely for a spell but forced his way back into the squad and the team. The lad has balls. Mellon said he use to come off at the end of each game black and blue. but he rode the knocks and after his previous history his determination saw him back into the starting xi until he picked up another injury. Best played either as part of a front two or slightly behind the main striker in a no 10 type role.

Know it's a painful memory, but have a look at the highlights of our 3-0 over you, in an emotionally charged game after young Nate's passing with cancer. Glatzel was superb that day, set up 2 chances for Hemmings, one converted, one against the woodwork and scored himself. If he gets match-fit and avoids injury, that's what you could be getting. Hope it works out.

Seems like wages are the issue with Lee Gregory, only willing to pay a certain amount with Wednesday wanting a lot more.

Clough likes to keep the wage structure fairly close too, not the sort to sign someone on much more than the next highest earners.

Thanks for the feedback, (and White Army )

I wonder whether we are looking at him as Dan Kemp's replacement and play him as a 10. From a few highlights he seems to be predominantly left footed, like Dan Kemp.

Obviously his injury history is concerning, but if we can get him fit and firing, it could be a shrewd signing, and with things off the field not rosy, these are the signings we need to make work for us.

He'll be on far more than any of your players I'd imagine. Some of our fans were even hesitant about him because of the wage he'd command.

I think getting him would pretty much seal the deal for you though (assuming he stays fit) as you just need that striker to put the ball in the net. I suppose it depends whether the wage structure means more than that.

The rumour mill is 12k, and we want to pay half max which would definitely be our top earner alongside whatever Flint is on I reckon. I imagine 6k does not touch the sides for some of Wrexham top earners.

The figures may be made up but the scenario is probably still true, both clubs can’t agree on what percentage we will contribute.

If true then £6K pw is some serious cheddar, crazy for L2 obviously. However if it's just a loan deal till end of season, then it's guarantees promotion (happening anyway tbh YOTS) and the cost is therefore limited to circa £100,000. That's a lot but not if it guarantees promotion and fixes the one obvious flaw.

The real issue for the club is the knock-on effect, £6K pw.paid, get promoted, multiple agents of Stags players are aware of Flints and Gregory's wage their demands are understandably increased further so actual cost of this loan deal is far more than £100K pw.

Nige is right to keep a close eye on wage structure.

Indeed, it's well documented that Mullin and Lee's recently signed contracts net them £50k a week EACH.

We could do with a player like Gregory ourselves alongside Mullin, though if Fletcher can stay fit until Palmer returns we might get away without bringing in another striker. Problem is, we have enough aging strikers as it is and Dalby can't hit a cow's arse with a banjo. I'd hope our next striker signing will be in his 20s.

This is when you realise just how mental wages in football are, a rumoured 12k per week for a player at a club in the Championship relegation zone (albeit a very big club) and who can’t even get in their team.
Crazy.

Wages have been mental in football for a long time now, Gregory getting £12k for Sheffield Wednesday is not a good example tbh.

If you want crazy then look at the wages of players not even getting on the benches at Premier League clubs, Joe Average top flight played getting 3 and 4 times that.

The true world class players and megastars who are understandably on huge money has pulled PL and EFL footballers wages up massively especially as you get closer to the top. Meaning average second tier footballers at average size clubs are on eye watering salaries.

What's the top weekly wage at L2?

Pretty sure everyone and their dog knows it'll be Powell, the figure I keep hearing round here is £8k a week which is less than Wrexham offered in the summer but they only offered a one-year deal and we offered three. Given that I can count the times he's had a good half of football on one hand, it's looking like a dreadful deal.

Sounds like Hutton to us is the latest rumour. Our DOF on the radio confirmed we’re announcing a signing soon and our commentators during the match mentioned a signing when discussing our lack of right back options.

Kyle Knoyle has a bleed on the brain after the latest scan after his head injury in the Mansfield game which sounds pretty f serious so suspect it’s forced our hand as we were expecting it just to be a standard concussion time out.

Hutton to Stockport?
I’ve seen his very impressive attacking stats but can he defend/be able to play in a back four?

I’m worried we’ll go back to wing backs again when we’ve been much better in the diamond.

He's a liability defending. He has one string to his bow - he can whip in plenty of hit and hope crosses.

Stockport County.
Hutton could be very good back up for Southam Hales if Knoyle is out for a while.

Shows how far ahead we are if we bring Swindon's best player as a back up right back.

Crazy.

I reckon 12k could be a bit low, reckon Gregory may have got his last contact when in the champ.

Wouldnt want him then if that's the case that's the issue with our current right wing back who actually isn't one can't defend for toffee.

Hutton’s a good player - similar to a League 2 Alexander-Arnold, he can’t defend to save his life but spends most the game getting to the byline to stick a cross in. We were looking like making him an out-and-out winger until Swindon nicked him.

Would rather have him than Worrall, who has been a real disappointment.

Yeah I wouldn’t want him if he can’t hold his own in a back four but DC seems determined to go back to 352 which is annoying.

We have had a bid turned down by Bradford for Jake Young but we'll be going back in for him and it will be just a matter of time before he signs.

I tell you what, you L2 lot should be praying we don't get relegated because we would absolutely annihilate this league next season with the squad we're putting together.

If you thought Stockport and Wrexham were good then wait until you see us.

£200k for someone’s who has had three good months in his entire career I’d be happy with, Lewis was a joke amount but I’m not fussed for Young and his ten games for us whatever it is. Mark Douglas, journalist for the I newspaper and City fan, revealing last week we’re needing directors loans to see us through at the minute, we’re basically skint and open to having our pants pulled down - all down again to the ownership that is slowly killing us.

Sure doesn't look like the L1 lot are going to miss you guys. I'm happy to swap Mansfield, Wrexham and Stockport for Carlisle and whoever else gets relegated.
