Mansfield tend to put in a optional 1 year extension on our contracts when possible.

Sounds like Devitt is close to signing for Blackpool, sorry to disappoint you Swindon.

Yeah that was always going to be the case when we heard Blackpool were in the race, higher division and I know Devitt wants to try and play at a high as level as possible. Also much closer geographically to Carlisle than Swindon.

A shame as I reckon he'd be an exciting player to watch and seems a pretty decent guy. (based on his farewell comments to Carlisle fans on their website)

Not convinced you do, the Doyle deal sounds done. Think we're stalling until Vaughan is over the line but Doyle won't come cheap.

We definitely do cheap so seeing players like Devitt and Doyle linked is strange. I imagine Fryers must be on a decent wedge to so maybe Power is getting generous in his older age!

James Hanson to us confirmed, 2 year deal.

Another decent, if not spectacular signing. A lot of concerns regarding his fitness levels but if he can stay fit he could be just what we need, somebody to play off of up top. We seriously missed a player like him last season.

Good signing. Decent player who always seemed to do well against us. Quite happy that he's not in the same Division this year.

Hanson and Green could be a very useful partnership...

Well he is guaranteed to score against us if he plays. I still have nightmares about our games against Bradford the season they went up. Hanson and Wells were a good a combo as you could really get at league 2 level.

Even though hes getting on a bit I think thats a good signing for this level.

That combination still gives me wet dreams to this day. Wells loved a goal against Northampton.

Pleased with Hanson, he’s everything that we lacked last year.

I’m very happy with Hanson and Green up front, not the youngest of course but I think they’ll both do well here.

Yeah that’s a decent L2 pairing, doubt rest of squad will match up to it though?

Astute signing is Hanson. All about the service though, assume you will have a couple of wingers on the shopping list as well.

There are slight murmurings that Fenty is loosening the purse strings a wee bit. If the widely acknowledged wage table of last season is to be believed and we were in about the 16th to 18th bracket and you factor in our highest earner was John Welsh then we might see a bit of wiggle room. Danny Collins has also gone who would have been on a decent whack too. I'd say we've already got one of the best GKs, a very good RB in Hendrie, potentially a very good CB in Ohman and and three decent CMs in Clifton, Whitehouse and Hess (assuming Whitehouse can come back strong) so it might not be as poor as you'd think. I mean, there's not a cat in hell's chance that we're gonna be operating on a top budget but a few shrewd signings like Hanson with the aforementioned players and the youths we're bringing through all combined with the fact that we did a decent job with Embleton on loan (which might trigger other teams to send players to us) might just might mean we have enough about us to challenge the top half. Of course, that's a lot of ifs and buts but I don't think it's necessarily fair at this stage to declare the rest of the squad as probably not being up to it.

Very strong goalkeeping department as well. Get the bits in between right and they'll be promotion contenders,

I think that's pushing it a bit but I do think we're probably in a much healthier position than we have been for a while. Among the problems last season were lack of goals, lack of target man and lack of creativity. In Green and Hanson I think we've recruited way better than our position last season regarding the goals and the big man. The defence needs a lot of beefing up and we are in dire need of a bit of creative spark but the early signs are at least positive.

They haven't really been prolific in recent years but I think that partnership could be a good one

It's going to be interesting to see if 32 year Matt Green is gonna be deployed in the same way that vintage Matt Green was. One of the traits I always liked about him was his energy and work rate, I'm just wondering if Jolley might try and reign him in a bit and get some of our younger attackers to run the channels more.

Doesn't take much to go from being also rans to promotion contenders in this division tbf. Get another couple of decent players in and there's no reason why you can't get an extra 10-15 points this season imo. You'll get goals with those two up top, makes a big difference.

So with Reece Brown already gone and Doidge apparently about to follow, Nathan McGinley is the next one of our players to be linked with a move, with Huddersfield, the other Forest, Bristol City and Swansea all reported to be interested.

Transfer listed Reuben Reid is also being linked with Chesterfield.

Our head of academy and highly rated gk coach having also both left the club, so not the ideal start to the summer so far

Wonder if the stadium situation will put Vince off investing much into the squad this season. He seems relatively loyal but the stadium is obviously a huge part of his long term strategy.

Could be. Cooper was talking about us focusing primarily on being a club that develops young players and sells them on last week, so definitely seems like our approach has changed since our days of heavy spending in the Conference..Had one of the youngest average age starting xi's in the division last season, and seem to be open to offers.

The stadium is crucial to Vince's plans I think, if the appeal fails not sure where we're heading tbh.

To be fair, our biggest problem last season was not creating chances and not scoring goals. These two if fit should solve some of that.

Remember last season we had relegation form at the start and end but in the middle we had promotion form.

Not saying these two will push us into promotion contenders but for our first two signings it shaws up our biggest weakness from last season. A couple more decent signings and we should have a squad capable of being play off challengers/top half rather than bottom half, relegation fodder, as long as we play for a full season and not come back still on holiday or go on holiday once relegation is avoided.

you realise that you cant sign every player to stop the rest of us?

We're giving it a go! I heard the Ball to us rumour today, maybe nothing in it and just people thinking he was with us last season it might have legs.

He is also linked to Blackpool, Walsall and Wimbledon so I doubt we are favourites, but he would be pretty much guaranteed game time.

We’re getting a ‘wow’ signing later this week apparently - not Doyle.

There’s some daft names being bandied about on our forum.
