If you need another Striker it wouldn't surprise me if Flynn was after DJ from us he's not getting a game here.
Is he ok at getting beat up by defenders and barely getting a sniff at goal? George Miller has been feeding off scraps all season and done well to get the goals he's got.

We’ve signed Will Patching from Derry City.

Not the type of player we can pin our hopes on keeping us up, that ship has sailed. But hopefully he’ll prove to be a decent signing ahead of our National League campaign next season.

We had Patching in our L2 relegation season but he was still young and never got much of a look in. Always looked like he had quality on the ball but was incredibly lightweight.

We’re apparently looking for a GK, RB, CB, LB, CM, LW, RW & ST if anyone knows any. Preferably ones that can stay fit.
Would be easier to list the positions you're not looking at.

Edit: Ah shit that's the joke isn't it, bugger it's been a long day. :bg:

Hopefully he’s been on the Guinness.

I filed Will Patching and Ed Francis in the same category, both once highly rated Premier League Academy kids with clear technical ability but lacking enough pace and physicality to succeed. The latter we released and has now worked his way up to L1 though so maybe a stint in Ireland has done the same for Patching.

Maybe, or there’s a reason he’s joining the worst team in the football league.

Rumour floating about that Josh Stones is a done deal from Wigan, striker currently on loan at Oldham.

We will see, i’d be surprised if it’s done as I know there’s been a lot of interest in him, but I’d be very happy with that signing if so.

Supposedly Lining up Freddie Draper and Michael Mellon if Lowe goes next month.
Don't know if our DoF is being coy but Rob Street aside, it doesn't sound like he's expecting much, if anything, to be changing in our striker department.

He won't run all day like Miller but he's a much better finisher than he is so they could possibly work as a pair.

I heard Boxing Day that Vale have put a bid in for Hackford.
Moore loves him.
Tolaj is being farmed out.

That would be incredibly disappointing with Tolaj if he does that. I fail to see how a lad who banged them in for fun last season we have used him so badly by sticking him out wide a lot of the time. The gap between NL and L2 ain’t that big so suggests it’s an us problem than a him problem.

Seen Unofficial Vale on Twitter hint at some lad called Duffy from Lincoln being looked at. Sure I might have seen him at some point but nothing stands out there.

Our first rumour appears to be Alex Hunt midfield player from York, as with all rumours, not sure how credible, but we could definitely do with some more mobility in central midfield thats for sure.

Any views from Mariners on here, I believe he had a couple of spells with Grimsby

I would absolutely take that. Loan or permanent?

Very tidy with some skill but he was very lightweight and inconsistent here. Good at set pieces and seems to have found his feet at York but would be curious to see see if his level has improved. Never really found his best position but we all wanted him to do well (especially as we apparently forked out 100k for him).

Both Hurst and Artell believed in him but both ended up freezing him out the team so not really sure what that says.

Jamie Raynor reporting that George Lapslie is on his way from Gillingham to us in the new year.
of course, both may on their way, but would be surprising if York sell one of their starters given they're battling for that top spot.

I’ve mentioned it before on here, but I’d take George Lapslie.

Lapslie did pretty well at Mansfield in that #10 role, quite a unique player for the level for us but this was a while ago now.

I’m sure he’s enjoyed picking up that 6 grand a week pay cheque over these past few years!

Lapslie always seems to be an annoying little diving rat whenever I've seen him. Hope it's not true.

He’s a player you’d want in your squad, surely.

Think Tony McMahon.

Ex Man City, I was excited when he came, all the pedigree but he really wasn't good for us. Hopefully years of experience under his belt has improved him but he was slow and lightweight for us.

Exactly what Paul Haddock said. Talented but for whatever reason it didn't work out and two managers both lauded him and then failed to get a tune out of him. To add to that, as you've suggested this is what your midfield is lacking, I wouldn't describe him as particularly mobile. He's not a slouch or anything don't get me wrong, but he's more of a tries-to-find-pockets midfielder than he is a cover-every-single-blade-of-grass midfielder. If you want work rate and mobility then you'll be disappointed with Alex Hunt. I think that's partly why he struggled at this level, as teams' midfields generally press better and are more adept at being combative than the NL where his technical skills give him the edge. There's definitely a player there with Hunt but I wouldn't be surprised if he flops in L2 again when/if he moves back up.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
The worry with the Carlisle signing is you come into this window with what is meant to be a fresh broom after 3 awful windows and the first signing is pretty much someone we were looking to bring in with the previous set up……….responsible for 3 awful windows

Well it looks like George Lapslie signing from Gillingham this week, all but confirmed by local media, so cannot see us signing another central midfielder, so maybe the rumour about Hunt was incorrect. We shall see I suppose.

I think Lapslie will replace Jamie Walker who is out of favour now, and can see Walker ending up at Carlisle.

We're signing Ashley Hay from Brentford on loan. Forward who has scored 6 goals in 5 games for their u21s this season. Sounds exciting, but League football is a different beast to u21s.

We're also apparently signing a right back on a permanent deal - no name yet though (could be Lewis Payne who we currently have on loan from Southampton)
