Are we going for it? This feels unusual for a January window.

Must be the end of Jamie Walker. I like him but his heart definitely hasn't been 'in it' this season. Still committed, but something has been missing.

Still time for us to get in another Guthrie or Robinson-esque deadline day signing.

Walker was one of my fave players but he's definitely been below par this season. He wanted to move in the summer, didn't he?

Yeah, I think that much is clear. Shame we never did anything with him about. On his day he is class.

According to who, me?

Read my post again.
You’re right. He was set to sign for us but the injury to Cook changed things. Confirmed by a family member.

Good signing and back to the drawing board for us ref a CF.

Apparently were in for Janoi Donacien, defender from Ipswich. Obvious links with Cook, Roberts & Dyer so wouldn’t surprise me if we are interested.

I’d be lying if I said I knew anything about him or had even heard of him, but Ipswich fans seem surprised he’s dropping below the championship never mind into league 2 so at least that’s positive.

Believe it when I see it though, feels like we’re being linked with everyone at the moment
Think this one is likely to happen. IF fit, a very good signing. Would imagine deal to the end of the season with an option in the clubs favour to extend.

It’s a useful signing but is signing a player being sacked off by a team below you in the league after 6 months classed as ‘going for it’?

Moreso that we're a week into Jan and Mellon and Leigh would take us to 4 signings already.

I've no clue if this Leigh fella is any good though.

5 signings so far this window.

Our sporting director has just confirmed that we’ll be bringing in up to 5 more.

Basically we’re starting again, in January. We’ll have a squad of about 45 players and a complete new starting 11.

What a shameful shit show.

I don’t get what you want?
Would you rather sign no one and stick with the absolute shower you’ve got atm that’s left you bottom of the football league?
Or would you rather the board/manager at least have a go and try get some bodies in to keep you up?

You’d give theshayway a run for his money on the other forum I reckon

I'd be glad that the board want to make a fight of it.

I think we’re down regardless. I don’t think any amount of signings keeps us up. We were in exactly the same situation last season. Players take time to settle, we’re asking a load to hit the ground running and turn us into a top half team overnight.

I’m concerned looking at next season that we’ll be down with a load of overpaid players on long contracts that we can’t get rid of.

If Carlisle are bringing all these additional players in, without moving others on, how do they manage to comply with the financial and squad size regulations?

At Tranmere, we were told by the management that our budget was close to the limit such that we can only do one in one out deals, even though we operate with a smaller squad. I dread to think how much money is being frittered away o Josh Davison's wages if we're that close to the limit.

With regards to squad size regulations. Think you’re allowed to register a squad of 25 plus youths at the end of a transfer window (or something along those lines). If we don’t move players on we’ll simply have to unregister some and let them sit in the stands for the rest of the season.

No idea on the ffp rules.

The rules can be circumnavigated in terms of like sponsorships and things IIRC for example our owners business sponsors the shirts I think?

I believe players can be removed from the squad list at anytime during the window, even whilst still under contract - so long as the relevant submissions are made to the EFL.

Under 21s (so the loan players, in our case) and goal keepers don't count towards the squad limit.

Not sure why GK's wouldn't? But the ruling around U21's is changing next season. At the minute, any U21's don't count at all whereas from next season, if an U21 player is classed as a first team player (based on a criteria around how many appearances they've made) they will count as part of the squad size.

That secures Swindon’s survival.

For me it’s now between Tranmere, Harrogate, Accrington and Morecambe for the second relegation spot. Morecambe the most likely.

I can’t see anyone else dragged into it, even barrow despite what their fans will say.

We're signing Tom Nichols on loan from Mansfield.

We signed him this time last year, don’t expect goals.

Or effort.

Gillingham fans in fairness this time last season warned us of his lack of well most things football related and were firmly proved correct.

Wish him well and hope it works out for him and swindon but i’m very pleased he’s moved on.

Lol that Mellon was Chesterfield’s guest at Valley Parade and we tapped him up from there.
Tommy Leigh signed but not yet announced it seems.

Robertson is surely a write off at this point, can’t stay fit for more than two minutes. Didn’t even make it back to the pitch this time. Shame because he’s a decent all-round midfielder but he’s not exactly contributed anything this season so far so I think we might be okay there if Edwards is back soon.

Shame about Ness, he looks promising, but personally prefer Macari and his quality on the ball in that position anyway so if he’s not out for too long it’s not a massive loss. Probably do need one more centre back now though.
