Jatta is half the player Rakish is. League two defenders still have nightmares about him

As others have said. Jatta has the stature, pace and touch to play at a much higher level.

Langstaff was more about pure finishing

Jatta does need feeding as Jacob said, he won't take on 5 players and score but it's league two lads. No one is doing that except Rakish

You know what I really hope no one comes in for Dobra now. That would be pretty much all our 'x factor' going out the door in one window. Not that there's any noise of that, but just saying. I imagine we'd ask for a such a fee for him though that it would be prohibitive for most.
Yeah agreed, Dobs would cost an absolute fortune for anyone coming in for him as I think Cook see’s him as our main man, but I can’t see us selling him or anyone else this window now anyway.

Berry was an impact sub who’s gone for roughly half a million all in, so someone coming for our main man best be prepared to cough up.

Personally, I think all we need by the deadline is another winger ideally left footed that is comfortable off the right, and that’ll be adequate replacement for Markanday/Berry. If we got another to replace both then great but personally don’t think we need that as we’ve got enough bodies coming back in that area now to cover. Be interesting to see what we do with the Berry money, and if we choose to invest it straight away in a perm signing this window, or save that for the summer & get a loan in this window, see what happens.

Just send a clip of the miss he did at our place to every team in the league and then nobody would want him.

Lots of rumours circulating that MK have bid 300k for Demetriou and will double his wages.

Some saying that we've rejected it and are looking for around 400k. All seems abit crazy for a 34 year old that's never really played above league 2 level.

Mad money! some really silly money being thrown about this January (always a poor window for value for money anyway).

Issue is if its out there they are going to double his wages then what effect may that have on the player. 300k though for a 34 year old who possibly wouldn't be an asset and make the step up if you did go up is a decent offer, if you can re-invest it.

MK did enquire but the fee is outright bullshit for a start. Mickey left Newport for us because the commute from Shrewsbury was too much for him and he's happily settled living there so he therefore has no intention of leaving the club at all.

Jatta was outstanding against us - not sure he's worth £750k, but we sold Will Goodwin for £400k last season and he had a good 3 months to be fair.

At the other end of the spectrum, we only received £250k for Alfie May and he'd walk into literally any team in this league and arguably League 1 these days.

To be fair Charlton had your pants down there. Sold him for 1m twelve months later.

If true, you'd be foolish not to accept it.

He's a good player but you should be able to replace him with someone as good and younger for a fraction of that fee

Our board pulled our own pants down, and Alfie has to shoulder some of the blame.

The story goes that in January he told the board he wanted to go to Gillingham - in short, accept an offer or he threatens to go on strike. He's practically in the car en-route to Priestfield when our, then, Director of Football Mickey Moore tells him to stay with us until the summer - help keep us up - then we'll let him go in the summer for a reduced fee (bear in mind he had another year on his deal, with an option for a second year - our option - so we really held all the cards).

The club agreed that we would accept bids of £250k and above, but these didn't have to be accepted if a bidding war started - we would push fighting clubs higher and higher. The problem is (and this is where the board royally fucked up) by telling them our lowest acceptable figure, this gave his agent basically 6 months to go and sort the best contract for him, put it around that he's only interested in signing for one team - in this case Charlton - and no other bids ever came in. Charlton offered less than £250k but were rejected. There was a rumour he had a look around Derby, but they weren't able/allowed to pay any fee, and Bristol Rovers allegedly feigned a bit of interest.

By telling Alfie and his agent what our line was though, there was never any need for a bidding war because the other clubs knew his mind was made up so short of paying him silly money (even more silly than what Charlton paid him) they were never going to get him.

The fact we made £150k more out of Will Goodwin (a bidding war between Oxford and Charlton did actually come up - initial bids were under £100k and we ended up with £400k) than we did Alfie May is criminal and should go down as one of the worst deals in EFL history.

They bid £300k and Charles Grant wanted to accept it. I believe that Bell isn't interested in selling and Mickey isn't interested in going so hopefully that's the end of it...

Nothing but do you know of any out of contract defenders as good as MD who would join Crewe?
So it is possible to get as good as him for something like that fee or much less.

But no, I'm not an EFL scout or Crewe's management team. I don't need to know who is out of contract and who isn't. No doubt he's been excellent for you, but we're not talking about a generational talent here, it's Mickey Demetriou, a 34yr old lower league defender who hasn't played above League 2.

300k is a fantastic offer for him.

Well it isn't if that player doesn't exist. There's about 16 clubs in this league with bigger budgets than us and none of them have managed to get a centre back better than Mickey Demetriou so I wouldn't fancy our chances. £300k is not enough money if it costs us promotion.

Sad indictment of the modern game when even other fans are saying we should take the money. £300K for a 4th division CB is also sad if it's true. I still can't quite believe that. Just shows the stupid levels of money in lower league football now.

The best signing we've made in years. His influence has been infectious at the club. You can't put a price on how much it has played in transforming us in a short space of time. But we should take a pittance apparently. Nah no point in being ambitious and wanting promotion, let's sell our captain for £300K.

But nah even money is corrupting lower league fans now. "Take the money" without even wondering if the player wants it himself (he doesn't). Playing regularly, playing at a place you're loved and playing to win promotion should be streets ahead of taking the money at a side well off the pace and having a mediocre season.

Mickey knows what he has here. And he's seen what happened to Nevitt when he left us for a healthier bank balance but potentially destroying his future EFL career in the process.

I couldn't give a toss about £300K. Promotion is worth seven figures for a club like ours anyway so might as well keep him.

We’ve loaned out Jack Tucker for the rest of the season to Colchester United.

Means we are definitely in the market for another CB (as we should be)…

P.S. Tucker is shit.

I don't even think it would make financial sense for him in the long run. He's guaranteed a coaching role here, probably a very senior one. And lots of our coaches then become our managers. He's essentially got a job for life at Crewe, if he wants it. 2 years at MK would be healthy for his bank balance in the short term, but a career at Crewe is IMO healthier in the long term.
