Well exactly - our highest paid player is supposedly on about £1,300 so I can't see us doubling that.

I highly doubt we are in a situation where we will let him go cheap, you’ve got to understand that we’ve got a player that’s probably earning north of £3k p/w that’s only adding £1300 to the budget cap, you not get a striker like Cook for that much even in the current climate.

The other side to it is how much space do we have left, because we need a left sided player and a CM to finish off the squad nicely IMO.

The main problem is he’s not going to be happy on the bench.

Despite his disappointing loan spell, I'd still like Cook back at Tranmere as none of the current forwards are decent in the air. Think we will be bringing another forward in, but Cookie outside our budget unfortunately.

We've had one competitive game...

If anything the way we're intending on playing will suit itself to someone like Doyle, you'll have the industry of the wing backs and Delfouneso creating for him and then Crawford in behind the front two supplying the little quick through balls and pulling strings. We'll be fine, it will come goals wise.

It's the defending that's going to plague us this season. I know it's early doors for us in this system but for me a defenders first job should be (and I know this is revolutionary) to defend, but we've got the L/RCB carrying the ball well into the opposition half as part of our attacks and leaving the central player exposed in the channels. That's the worrying part.

I'm sure Barrow fans could tell us if that's just an unfortunate byproduct of the way Evatt sets up or if our defenders just aren't getting it yet.
When a wing back carries the ball into the oppositions half Comley is supposed to drop back and make it a back four
The opposite wing back then fits into Comleys position

Me too. However the 'in the know' poster on our forums seems to think Cook to Barrow is pretty much a done deal.

I think our biggest priority is actually another midfielder.

sounds about right we were paying him 2k a week and we are known to pay low wages.

Interesting signing for Latics today, George Blackwood from Adelaide United.

Strong striker/winger, good scoring record for Australia U20 and U23. Not so much in the A-League, but it seems he played wide more often for Adelaide.

A couple of CMs and a defender have got to be a priority now.

Comley at times looked reasonable Saturday but god does he give the ball away a lot. Very disappointed with that performance and the back three were always out of position which led to their goals. We are going to struggle

Interesting... masi51

He didn't have the best game in fairness, can't see it being a regular occurrence, just going to take a bit of time for the new players to gel in the system. Comley will be tidy with it soon enough.

Defence is an issue though like he said, got to hope Evatt notes that and has them focus on defending first, because Saturday was a bit of a fuck up with them going walkabout playing like attacking midfielders. Bizarre tactical choice for me.

Finally been confirmed that Willem Tomlinson contract has been terminated.

Should be a decent signing for somebody, only 22.

I liked him as a player but he needs to get his head straight off the field or he will end up in non-league going from club to club.

On the topic of sell-on clauses...

Watford signed Glen Murray which would mean that you'd expect Troy Deeney to be off, who we have been waiting to be sold for a decade to give us a sell-on fee - but alas it looks like he is leaving on loan, further leaving us with nothing. It's been excruciating especially since there was talk of him leaving for £20-30m a couple seasons ago.
b.

Must be frustrating for you but he has been loyal to us despite the transfer rumours.

I suspect it's because we backed him after the spell in jail for kicking a kid in the head soon after Troy joined.

What you're looking for after something like this occurs is the player showing a bit of insight into how much of a dick they've been and making a commitment to improve their behaviour off the pitch. I haven't seen anything from him since this occured other than him liking a .gif of a pigeon being kicked out of a pub on Twitter.

Yeah he’s deffo a knobhead, but a decent player albeit plenty to work on. If he doesn’t end up a decent league player we will know why.

I used have a season ticket at Sydney FC back when he first broke through and started getting first team minutes. Not a bad player and I liked him. He's got good strength and his finishing seems to have improved once he moved on to Adelaide. From what I've watched of the A-League on BT over the last few seasons, he has definitely been playing out wide a lot more than up top. Will be interested to follow how he gets on here.

Tom Nichols signs for Crawley.

At Bristol Rovers last season and Cheltenham on loan for the play offs (I believe).

On his interview on youtube he describes himself as a "fox in the box" type striker. His record begs to differ but I do recall him from his Exeter days as not a bad player and Posh and Bristol Rovers obviously saw something so I'm going to be hopeful.

Speaking of youtube interviews. Our manager, John Yems, has a new one out where he grudgingly admits that he didn't come across well on Saturday. He is back to his usual happy(ish) blunt self.

I really hope this move works out for Nichols. When with us, he was decent. In fact, he scored 15 goals in the 14/15 season and the following year he was into double figures by early January which promoted Peterborough to pay us around £350k for his services.

I think he had one half decent season for Peterborough in L1 but since then he’s really struggled to score but I believe he could get a decent tally if he gets off to a good start. He’ll never stop running and technically is pretty good.

Overall, probably a good signing for Crawley.

A lot of relieved Cheltenham fans when they heard Nichols had gone to Crawley. I think that's a little harsh, but to be honest in the 7 games he played for us he didn't look like scoring at all.

I think the lad just needs a bit of confidence - he looked completely devoid of it when he played for us.

Thanks for the info (Moomin and Si). To be honest I don't think he is the type of striker we need. We have four strikers under six foot and they all like running into channels. We could do with a big lump who can hold the ball up and put himself around a bit.

Still, we are known for taking strikers with a good record and ruining it. Maybe as Nichols has a bad recent record...?

Sounds exactly like the sort of player that will do well at Crawley.

With Ethan Ampadu joining Sheffield United on a season long loan, we could be in for another windfall. If the loan is for more than 1.3m we are in for 20% of the excess. Not unrealistic that it could be around the £2m mark..

Good luck to Tom -- Never ever stopped trying but just could'nt ever score. I think we paid nearly 400k for him as well. Deserves some luck and hopefully will come good.

Southend have got GK Grant Smith on trial, who we released in the summer having ended the season on loan at Boreham Wood.

Decent shot stopper and good with the ball at his feet. Fairly quiet for a 'keeper and not one to be shouting orders at his defender. Should be a half decent signing, even if just as a number two.

Kaiyne Woolery is the latest rumour round here. He has posted on his Instagram that he is staying at our defender Manny Monthe's house. Probably nothing in it but id be happy with that.

I think the relevant expression is like a speedboat without a driver. Can run fast but has the football intelligence of something that has no football intelligence - a rock perhaps.

Anyone spotted Fil Morais yet?

Still contracted to Crawley (two more seasons) but our manager has stated that he hasn't even met him. He will be one of our highest earners and I'd imagine, if he is not showing up for training and games, we would not be paying him but I wonder where that sits with the salary cap.
