I presume those who get on their high horses about having individual match threads aren’t bothered about one for this competition so here’s the thread for all first round games.

So where does anybody see some shocks happening?

We’re only opening 2 stands and it’s £8 a ticket - just like our pre season friendlies. It’s a week away, though. Thread is a bit previous. We’ve got Chelsea U23s tonight in the fuckwit Cup first.

Shit sorry I thought these games were tonight, I've just looked and they are on 14th August.

Oops.

Mods can you delete thread please I don't know how to do it.

Cheltenham v Colchester, the magic of the Cup.

Hopefully we can do the business against Ipswich

Ah, leave it up. It’ll help build the excitement for next week.

We’ve got FGR, you know.

Not too fussed with our tie, its typical for us to get a dull draw, chance of getting through, Aspin wasn't here last season when we made changes despite being away at Leeds so not sure if we will go full strength or not.

I'm pleased it's no longer seeded, feels more like a proper cup competition again.

We'll get beaten but at least Villa at home live on Sky will be a money-spinner.

You're not the only one, I just assumed they'd take place in between the first and second league games like they do on footy manager and fifa.

Well it's because it usually is! Always thought it was a bit too soon after the first league game, I'm a fan of letting the dust settle, managers must be pleased about the change.

Remember when it came before the first league game one season? That was weird.

You will be OK. We will probably save our first team for the Checkatrade trophy.

We’re due a cup run*. Walsall have assembled a largely league two squad so being at home it’s probably a fairly equal fixture.

*as long as it’s not the checkatrade

Not sure I can contain my excitement for Colchester at home.

It's so big that, even though it's our next home fixture, I've not seen a single mention of it from the club regarding ticket prices, etc..

I hope they are distracted by this massive game on Saturday when we visit, lets face it they don`t get bigger than that tie.

Sod Cheltenham v Colchester, as glamour ties go there is no bigger or better than Grimsby v Rochdale, I reckon it might sell out.

I imagine we'll switch things around tomorrow and make four or five changes.

Doubt Akinde and O'Connor will play 3 games in a week at the minute having had a limited pre-season. It'd make sense to give Rhead, Pett, Luque, Crookes and Shackell some game time and throw Green in, too.

To go with our shocking start to the season (two 1-0 defeats that could each have been 4/5-0) the club, in its infinite wisdom, has decided not to reduce ticket prices for the match against Colchester, meaning that anyone who was on the fence about going is now definitely not going. Yes, Col U fans, you have to fork out £21 for the privilege of watching what isn't even a desirable league fixture.

We're really a clusterfuck of a club at the moment and tomorrow night's attendance is going to be laughable.

It's a sorry state of affairs when there are people going just so they can say a proper goodbye to Harry Pell.

Cant see Pope playing even if recovered and assume we will make changes. Bit of an inconvenience but would be worth experimenting after Saturday's horror show.

Kids go free at BP tomorrow. Can't imagine many Dale will be making the trip.

Would like us to stick with the system that worked at Macc and try and navigate our way through to a decent fixture in one of the subsequent rounds. However, got a feeling Jolley might see it as a free hit in terms of trying out wing backs again.

We've never scored a league cup goal, so will be a special moment when the floodgates open at the County Ground tomorrow night.

Just get the defeat at Middlesbrough over with, we have been playing preseason so far so KN will probably try some more new things on this.

Disappointing to think that we are down to the bare bones, depending on barely fit returnees and kids to play with injured players required to fill the bench, after 2 league matches.

I gather Newport have similar injury problems so this League Cup path to money spinning opportunities is probably an unwelcome distraction to both teams.

We managed to extract 3 points from serial fall guys Notts County with a second choice keeper, 44 yr old Kev Pilkington as back up on the bench, a young CB making his 2nd League start and at least 3 players that didn't have 90 minutes in their legs plus Barry Corr who can do < 30 minutes from the bench.

From Saturday's absentees, Forde should be available post-concussion but I'd keep Mitov in to build experience and confidence. O'Neil should be fit enough to come back. With another tough Sat/Tues coming up, I can't see Taylor, Dunk or Osadebe returning too quickly but may be neeeded for the bench. Lewis and Brown may have 60 minutes in them and young Harry Darling went off knackered and with cramp. I think I might consider giving George Maris, Reggie Lambe, Halliday and Jabo a rest

Mitov
Davies, John, Taft, Carroll
Deegan O'Neill
Amoo, Brown, Knowles
Azeez

Subs: Forde, Halliday, Darling, Lambe, Lewis/Osadebe, Maris, Ibehre/Corr

.....or should we go for it early, with our best available 11, and only give Halliday, Maris or Lambe and Ibehre a rest when (if, against a bogey team) we're 3 - 0 up against reluctant travellers as we build momentum into the season?

I want my best 11 available and fit for Sixfields on Saturday.

The Habbin will be open but I can't see it being very full. There won't be much motivation for a big travelling support (but my "only Exile in the village" neighbour, Paul, will probably be there). Maybe 2,170 to see a scrappy 3-1, hopefully to the U's but could easily be either way. No extra time please.

Edit: Straight to pens after 90 minutes this season :brill:

Reckon our game at Middlesbrough will be effectively a reserve match. They’ll definitely make loads of changes and, even though our first team could do with more minutes together, we’ve got to be mindful of our next league game being on Friday night.

Dennis could do with 90 minutes in his legs but I would rather it was against Yeovil.

He'll be back again in two and a half weeks!
