The other day was talking about how important it was to have your ground close to the town centre (in reference to shrewsbury moving out of town to one of these identikit grounds compared to their old one (though of course shrewsbury had legitimate reasons given the flooding of the Severn so often)

Wycombes ground is just that though, the floating voter is going to be put off / its out of town, it’s hard to get to, there’s no local facilities near it / in short it’s a pain the arse.

Of course there’s more to it than that, but it certainly helps / so when you’ve seen clubs like exeters fan base grow - their localation groundwise would be one of the factors

I think ours has grown simply because of success (relatively) on the pitch and playing at a high level for us, coupled with strong fan engagement and incremental improvements to facilities (new stands 4 or 5 seasons old, etc).

Our gates are slightly down this season, which most put down to fannying about with kick off times and lack of exciting opposition so far..

There is always a healthy debate on exeweb considering whether we would be better off out of town, to a bigger ground or even the Chiefs, the majority think not.

Yeah, i mean more that if a side does have success or you’ve floating voters, having a ground that’s out of town/pain in the arse to get to is always going to still have a drag, you’ve not had that drag due to good location.

Yes but to some having a ground near a motorway is a plus, driving into Exeter can be a pain and parking isn't cheap these days.
Though neither is the park and ride option at the Chiefs ground.
I prefer where we are though, Saturday I went in on the train, had a few pints in a city centre pub, went to the ground, pint after. Sometimes go for a curry. You can't beat that.

Can't see us taking anywhere near that amount with it being switched to a Tuesday night.

We didn’t sell out - we were about 100 short, we normally take 800 to 1000 to Lancs games on a Saturday and even on Tuesday night if we are doing well. In fact, we took more to Altrincham on a Tuesday night in the NL than we took to Wrexham. It’s not glamour tie just a normal run-of-the-mill fixture for us.

That is exactly the case. Amongst groundhoppers, there is a whole generation who hasn't been to our grounds. It's staggering how long its been (for good reason and another). I tick off the odd ground here and there as i've followed WFC for over 3 decades now but my lad it ticking every single one off his list! My next new ground is Rovrum next weekend, then my next new ground is not until the new year.

Tbh it’s one of those where once you’ve been once, you’d be a bit meh (as you could argue for many)

Of course younger fans wouldn’t have been - last time we played them in the conference we were in the stand that away fans are in now. That stand and the area around the ground is pretty tired in fairness.

It's not quite as ramshackle, although still not great in the older stands. Full of old school charm.

I switched to the Mold Road when they built that in 99 as I prefer the better toilets and refreshments it had on offer- although that's showing its age in places now.

I go in the biggest stand (that runs alongside the Sincil drain) and the toilets are totally inadequate for the crowds we get now. Was told that the facilities were never built to cope with a full stand, crazy.
My last visit to Wrexham was in 1998.

Older stadium design was all a bit ropey I think. They just threw stands up. The Yale and Main stand at the Racecourse all date from our last heyday in the 70s and are miles off being suitable for a modern stadium.

It's a big dilemma for our owners I think. Everyone wants to stay where we are and redevelop the ground but I've got my doubts about the economic and logistical sense in doing that. Although whatever we do will be ungodly expensive.

Our stand built in 01 has been showing its age for a while now, although the new owners have done a lot of improvement it still has trough urinals bolted to the wall

I doubt that's the case, it's not exactly difficult to get tickets these days unless it's a rival or big club we're against with the temp stand built. We also keep tickets back for international members and they rarely sell out.

Always felt Exeter were well travelled so was expecting them to sell this out given we often attract bumper away crowds. Some will deny it, but the star pull is real.

I genuinely love that they’d be tourists to go to wrexham, football is an amazing sport.

The Bristol fans site Gas Chat has confirmed an away following at Burton of 850, which I didn’t think was unreasonable when you compare their followings and distance travelled to other league games this season.
