It's not the perfect away trip for a couple of reasons but Burton ticks the vast majority of boxes.

Wigan sold 1300 for Oldham. Disappointed if not 1600 there Saturday.
Good to see all the old faces back watching us as well.

Few more years in this division and you'll be taking 500. You are tinpot.

Id say less they were taking less than 1000 in the premier league regularly to manchester and liverpool. But in all honesty id love to have there recent history that fa cup final must of been immense.

I don't mind clubs of any stature having a go at the away followings from us but up until the last 2/3 years of the premier league we gave always had decent support away but they love the myth.

Then fans of Crewe try and have a pop who have pathetic support hone and away, no history and no hope. That's where it becomes laughable.

A club like ours who is a similar size to Bury.
League cup final
FA Cup semi final
FA Cup winners
Europa league

I would take tin pot all day every day if that's the outcome.

The only difference between us/Oldham and Wigan is Wigan have had a money man that's stuck with them for the past 2 decades. Fair play to them tho they've made the most of it.

I never said we weren't tinpot, we have poor support but it's to be expected.

Before you had the money pumped in though you were no bigger than us, smaller infact.

Yes they were there followings in there last few years in the prem were very very low, nothing to do with prices they just don't have many fans they were a very small club punching well above there weight fair play to em for that though, a great spell for there fans. That last minute fa cup final goal was a brilliant moment in football.

We won't drop to 500, prior to our Premier League days, we actually had a very good away following, in fact we had one of if not the highest % of home fans going to away games.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised looking through programmes from our Premier League days and earlier. Away following was better than I actually thought. Before the Premier League era we regularly took 2,000+ to the North West games and 1,500 to Yorkshire/Midlands. Bar a Tuesday night long distance trip we'd tend to take 500+ majority of away games.

Looking back at the Premier League followings, I was very surprised to see we took to London trips 1,400 to Charlton, 1,400 to Chelsea and 1,600 to Arsenal on a Tuesday night. 3,000 or so to multiple North West games and over 2,000 for a number Midlands games. It did drop considerably towards the end of the 8 years as people got fed up of £40+ tickets in a lot cases. I never went to Arsenal/Chelsea/Spurs because the prices were just a joke, as much as I wanted to visit those grounds I refuse to be held to ransom. I didn't go to Anfield because £40+ for a shit view blocked by posts is a disgrace, £40 for a clear view is bad enough.

Games between Wigan/Bolton/Blackburn tended to be a gentlemens agreement that we'd charge around £25 to each other and we all took big followings to each other.

Pricing is definitely the biggest factor, why we had good followings before the Premier League and despite having twice as many home fans by the end of our Premier League days, our away followings went smaller than they did when we were in The Championship and League 1 pre 2005.

A good example, away to Nottingham Forest 2004, 2,500 at about £20 tickets. Two years ago when we were on a great run, over £30, 1,200 following.
Last visit to Bolton, cheap tickets, 4,200 Wigan fans. The season before Burnley not much further charged over £30 and there were1,800 Wiganers.

Last visit to Man City at £25, 3,800. Last visit to Old Trafford at £45, 900 or so.

Last time we played Oldham in League One, we'd have took 1,500+ easily. Hopefully fans that used to go away that were put off by prices start to go more regularly and the away following gets back to what it was pre Premier League days. Our last away match at Oldham back In December 2003, we took 1,836.

So it was the 'last couple of years in the prem' .....and not "regularly"?

Ok.

And not sure why you said "I'd say less" with regards to their away crowds dropping off to 500 in the next few years.Last time they were down here, they were regularly taking good numbers away, and averaging 6/7k at home. Numbers most clubs in this League can only dream of.

You've bought into the whole socialmedia shite being spouted by nerds, that Wigan are the smallest football club to ever grace the planet. It's bollocks.

Yeah, and before Whelan took over in '95 they averaged ~2,500. They're by no means the smallest club in L1, but they aren't a big club.

Plus, you only have to look at the last 3 years numbers to see the trend. If they stay in this league it will probably level out at around 7,000. They had a long enough period of success too develop a bigger hardcore of fans that will go come what may.

They are the smallest club to play in the pl in the last 20 years and definitely the smallest club to win the fa cup after the war. But like i said earlier i wish we had there recent history stuff most of us can only dream of.

Bigger than Wigan??

Anyway that's dvoigh about that. The social media comment was right and its that where the myth of small crowds comes from.

Just back from watching Oldham & Wigan and its one of the worst ganes I have ever seen. Good away support again mind.
