I fancy Fulham as an outside bet for promotion in the Championship. They played some lovely stuff last season and have managed to retain their best players too.
Their gaffer has achieved promotion before with Watford too, and he's already turned Fulham around completely from when he took over.

I got Luton at 8/1 outright on an increased odds sheet at a Coral shop. I think Mansfield were 6/1 on the same sheet. Seemed better than the online odds I'd looked at.

Say SOC, do you know if I can bet on Luton to win the league and Mansfield to win promotion on the same coupon?

Just had a look at the odds on Bet365 and they have the Stags at 5/1 and Luton at 7/1, so that's less than the odds you got. Still, 90p will get you over 10k with the same sides you picked.

Hmmm, was that online you looked at it? I'm not sure if you can do that. Do you mean as an accumulator? I think you should be able to do it, however you can't on Coral. It just goes onto the betslip as two singles. You might have to go into the bookies and ask them maybe? Or try Dave the Spurs fan in the shoutbox, he might now. You'd get mad money if you predicted all the title winners AND a promoted team!

If you've got a Sky Bet online account, you could do it using their RequestABet feature.

I don't think opening a skybet account would be such a great idea! I'm decent enough at predictions when it's just for a bit of fun, but utterly abysmal when it comes to betting. But thanks for the tip cufc 17

SOC, the bet I was thinking of - Luton to win the league and Mansfield to go up - was meant as an acca and separate from the one you did with the 5 league winners. But even if I find a willing bookie, the odds won't be that good. Luton are at 7/1 and Stags to be promoted is only 1/1, so adding Mansfield to the bet just doubles the winning total, so that's 160 quid for every tenner you stake. I reckon with such odds, one would need to bet at least 50 quid to make it worthwhile.

You won't be able to bet on that Vanni. One bet is directly influenced by the other, i.e. if Luton win the league, it means Mansfield have less chance of being promoted, and thus their odds would fluctuate.

Or summit like that. Anyway, you won't be able to place that bet, unless as said, SkyBet do you a nice RAB

Good point Tom. Have to admit the bit about Mansfield having less chance of being promoted if one spot's already taken didn't cross my mind.

And anyway, I don't think I'll be opening any more betting accounts right now. I have this bad habit of chasing losses and tbh I think I'm gonna close a couple of others too so I won't be tempted that much to lose more money than I've already lost. Think just the one account with bet365 should be more than enough.

Btw, good luck for the upcoming season Tom. The sooner you lot come back the better, esp. for the Carlisle fans, who I'm told are desperately looking for a new rival.

Thanks Vanni. There is a lot of positivity coming out of our club at the minute, we seem to have appointed a very switched on manager in Craig Harrison. He knows what it takes to win, and hopefully he and HUFC will be a winning formula. Our main problem for the past few years has been defensively, and we have looked hard to break down in the few games so far. Scoring goals might be our main problem, so it's vital we keep hold of Podge Amond.

Rumour has it, there is a Carlisle fan by the name of Carver who is trying to rile up any fan who will entertain him in the hope he can create a rivalry between Carlisle and their respective team. His aim is to replace the hatred and anger he had for Hartlepool with another team. Coincidentally, someone else who doesn't care about his Scottish team.

Anyway, we will be back. Sooner rather than later.

I think Exeter will be top half but I don't think we will make playoffs again this year.

We will miss Watkins going forward, his ability to unlock defenses made up for our lack of outright goal threat in the striker department. I really can't see Reid and MacAlinden scoring more than 10 each this season. Would be nice to have someone like Jamie Cureton back...!

Forest, Blackburn and Luton to be promoted is where my £3 has gone. A shade under 100/1

Surprised there's not an individual L2 Forum challenge bet thread this season, normally a few interesting ones.

Anybody?

£2 on Harry Smith to be league 2 top scorer at 66/1 is like printing money.
Here you go I'll pay you out now:

If Amond is as good for you as he was for us in the Conference then you're in for a treat. He didn't just score loads, he was another level better than everyone else on the pitch in a handful of games too. However, as much as I admire your confidence, I wouldn't be so sure on that sooner rather than later optimism. Horrible division to get out of good. Good luck, though.

He made Lamine Kone and John O'shea look like amateur centre halves last week. I'm sure he will manage to score 20 goals next season, but whether we can find another couple of players to chip in with 10/15 goals is the worry. It's strange saying that considering we have the likes of Ryan Donaldson, Nicky Deverdics and Jack Munns who are all proven scorers at this level. Deverdics and Munns both scoring around 20 goals 2 seasons ago from midfield. However we have 3 other unproven/not prolific strikers, so any injury to Amond could be disastrous.

Looking forward to the challenge. As long as our backroom staff keep the finances in check, I'm quietly confident we will be back in League 2 soon.

Just looking at the top scorer odds. Hylton and Collins being the two favourites, with Akinde just behind. I can see the two Luton players sharing the goals between them.

As an EW bet, I quite fancy Isaac Vassell at 50/1.

Thinking of doing accumulator of Kane, Pitmann and Akinde to top score in their divisions. Don't fancy anyone in the Championship.

Assombalonga at Boro?
No, he seems to be more of 15-20 goals a season striker at that level. I could be proven wrong though of course. Kane and Akinde are definitey 20-30 a season strikers in their divisions I know Pitmann hasn't done that since his L2 days but I reckon dropping down a division he has a chance of top scoring.

£2.50 EW returns around £30,000.

Man City
Middlesbrough
Wigan
Carlisle
Tranmere

Kane, Vibe, D. Graham, Akinde, Amond - probably have a quid or two on this for top goalscorers.

£2 gives £10435:

Chelsea
Villa
Wigan
Luton
Tranmere

£1 gives £8840 for:

Kane
Assombalonga
Wyke
Hylton

Only serious risks in either of those are Assombalonga and Wigan imo.

Looks good Paul. Sadly can't say the same for cufc17 as he picked his lots to win the title. But yeah, I know ;)

Have City made some good signings or something?

Mendy, Walker, Bernardo Silva are all strong additions for me. They've looked impressive in pre season which is what I based my predictions on. Chelsea haven't really improved so imagine City and United will be closer to them this time around

Spurs, Fulham, Bradford City and Swindon to win their respective league - £25 e/w

If by some fortune they all actually win it coughs just shy of £150,000

It's a bloody hard season pick winners in the league IMO. It's a shame as it's a bet I usually like. All the leagues look open to me though, and it seems like a good way to lose money.

I don't bet on us to win single matches, that never ends well, but 18/1 is good value. I'm sure we were similar odds last summer too.

I will do another with Luton to win the league, just as a back-up ;)
