Managed to catch the second half of Cheltenham v Cobblers game, poor quality lots of turning over possession, harsh defeat for Northampton who had been the better side much of the second half and missed an absolute sitter of a free header.

Lines lucky not to see red, similar to Clarke’s red for us against FGR but Cheltenham’s winner was a bit iffy, keeper dropped a corner but lot of bodies in there, he wanted a foul but not sure if it was just weak handling.

Not a bad result for us, keeps two sides close to us and with Cheltenham at Colchester and us to go to Cheltenham the week after can still catch all three. Northampton have dropped a few defeats lately so good for our POV if they lose form but pointless if we don’t beat Scunny of course!

Northampton’s commentary team are dull mind! Their bloke was like Great tackle by Lines that! Then seconds later saying how lucky he is! Makes me glad we’ve got Phil Bowers!

In Holloway’s 11 games in charge we’ve scored 20 goals.

The previous 11 games we scored 4 goals.

What a fucking guy.

And to think a Mansfield fan said it wasn't going to be a fun end to the season for us because we lost to Exeter away.

Weirdly Grimsby away is one of the only games in ages where we’ve actually played well, despite them being by far the most in form side we’ve faced in our last 10 or so.

Probably too late for a playoff push this season but will be worth backing them for the autos next season imo, Holloway is a brilliant manager at this level.

We've now shithoused a few wins recently without playing very well, top stuff. Northampton were an odd team, looked decent when they played the ball on the floor but insisted on hoofing it most of the time. Their lad Morton was decent and won a fair few of the hoofs but you're never likely to create much playing that way towards our back three.

I'd still be happy to make the playoffs but it's hard not to start eyeing up those top three spots. We'll need to be better against Colchester and Vale if we're to continue our push though.

Maybe, John Fenty has just announced he is taking a step back from the club, and Holloway will be director of football operations as well as manager and they have signed off having our biggest budget at this level for next season, all be it not as big as some other clubs.

As long as we are pushing for promotion/play offs from the start it will do, we haven't finished in the top half of lge 2 since 2005? So will make a nice change if we are the right end of the table next season.

Northampton are quite an odd side. We know they are 'agricultural' and look long to Oliver but against us they took Oliver off and Morton on who is less physical but still launched it long for him which was food and drink for Broadbent. Had they tried to play the ball forward a bit more on the floor they might have had more joy. I guess this is how limited Curle is that his plan B is to carry on doing Plan A.

Northampton do have some good ball players as well.

Said the same against them. Legge and Brisley were happy to head long balls all day long when it was clear it wasn't happening they just didn't resort to a plan B.

Decent game last night but my God Newport don't half know how to play the (weak) referee, falling over at every slight touch and constantly moaning.

Great to score in the first minute but then some awful defending gave them an equaliser. Brilliant free kick by Benson and a scuffer from Hanson put us 3-1 up before Podge got his customary goal but then a big deflection on Max Wright's shot put us back in the comfort zone.

Tilley MOTM for me last night. Bit disappointed with the gate of just over 3500 even though Newport only brought 33.

Ref was bloody useless again. (Can we have Trevor Kettle every week please).

One other observation from last night was that despite it being a fairly high-scoring game, there was only ONE corner all night and that wasn't until the 91st minute. Has there ever been a game where there have been no corners, as we came pretty damn close to that last night.

If Northampton don't go up, Curle has got to go. He's bottled promotion pushes with Mansfield, Notts County and Carlisle and now seems to be well on his way to doing it with it Northampton. For the quality of players they have, they really should be playing a better brand of football.

Chairman announced yesterday talks have started over a new deal for Curle. I think it’s far too premature and if we don’t go up I want him gone, the football is so horrible to watch.

Listening to it, I groaned when Podge came off and pulled one back. Was convinced he was going to get at least a second. Flynn's decision to call this one of due to intertnational players in November (don't even think one of them was getting in the side at the time?) has come round and bitten him on the arse here. No way were we gonna beat them back them. Sounded like Clifton put a shift in and really pleased for Max Wright to come off the bench and settle it.
Newport have two of our ex-forwards and we know the curse of the ex-players, plus we do give teams chances to score, but since Ollie has arrived we also score a few ourselves.

Obviously want a home win and make the 50 or so Whelks wish they'd stayed in Newport.

4-2 with both Matt and Amond scoring for them.
Not bad at all! Should have had a cheeky fiver on the result.

We won at Exeter away this season? One of the few excellent performances under MJ.

Lets hope it backfires for him when we finally play them at Whaddon Road in March - where he openly admitted that they called it off to get players back fit and for suspension.

On the one hand, I kind of respect his brazen openness...but on the other hand it'd make victory for you lot all the more sweeter. Again though, I'm sure they were in better form than you back then as well?

We were on our insane unbeaten home record at the time, but they were right up there so it would have been a big test for us.

Given how they've dropped off, I'm not really worried about them now, although anyone can beat anyone in this division (apart from Stevenage of course), so I'm not going to get too far ahead of myself.

Keith Curle was asked before the Derby FA Cup tie "if Plan A didn't work, what what his Plan B?"
"More of Plan A"
We have seen a lot of Plan A this season...:sur:
