I'm amazed he keeps getting work. He's had one good spell and that was with us where he had a massive budget and some of the best players League One has ever seen (Pilkington, Rhodes etc) and still couldn't get us up

He's also a very strange person especially when under pressure. He has a very dour depressing way about him and its no surprise he can't inspire a squad of footballers once things start to go wrong

What system did he play at Huddersfield?
He scraped survival through the skin of his teeth last season and that won him support. He was backed to the hilt over the summer but for me he lost the plot from the moment we beat Walsall on the opening day.
For a live winnable game against Sunderland the following Thursday he lined up with what can best be described as a 5-3-1-1. He dropped Beckford for said game and we witnessed a dour 0-1 defeat where we never once tried to win the game and without even troubling their keeper. Sadly that was a sign of things to come. We have generally seen little more than negative, defensive, turgid, direct football. Good players and fan favourites left isolated, frozen or loaned out. We had a farcical deadline day leaving us with a squad of over 30 players despite Clark harping on all summer about keeping a small squad. New signings have been constantly played out of position, talented youngsters blamed, thrown under the bus and then cast aside following a summer of hype. Then lastly, complete and utter crap brought in on loan from other clubs and played regardless of anything. Then we had others who were brought in and never played. He made a big deal out of signing Thompson from Southend over summer, he then loaned him out to Bradford after three games declaring the signing was a mistake. Yet during another interview a week later he was asked about feeling under pressure, he snapped at the journalist who asked the question for suggesting such a thing and declared he needed time. He continued to set up with a negative, defensive 5-3-2 week in week out despite poor results. Even when against fricking Doncaster on Saturday, a team just above us and outside the bottom four. He opted to play attacking wingers at right wing back every week. This included left sided Harry Bunn, yet he always seemed baffled when this didn't work. All three of his league victories were followed by comfortable defeats, then more defeats. It is November and we have already used something like 34 players, it may have been as many as 32 by mid September. Despite this he still declared on August deadline day that he had his targets sorted and ready for January so we'd have seen more ludicrous turnover then if he had stayed. With the team and backing he has had and the complete pig's ear he has made out of everything within the playing squad he doesn't deserve to manage again. I find it baffling that he seriously seems to rate himself as a really good manager and that he could have turned the slump around. The awful form and embarrassing league position is entirely his fault.

It must have been a similar feeling for Paul Jewell having managed 25000 fans at Bradford and then Sheffield Wednesday before trecking out into the decaying Springfield Park in front of 1800 fans.
