Neither of those two should have been given as a penalty.
The second incident is all too typical of the Sky Sports mentality of replaying the incident in extreme slow motion and construing any millisecond of contact as enough to warrant a penalty whereas in real time it is obvious that Van Dijlk was doing his utmost to not make any challenge on Lamela.

as big a robbery as you're likely to see this season. first one was offside - the second the spurs player literally jumped backwards to incur the contact (was there even contact? not enough to throw yourself to the floor)

appalling from the officials.

Opposing the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre!!!!
Yeah, Lamela went down like he'd been electrocuted. dunno what view the linesman had but when he sees the replay he'll see his error

Dunno why Liverpool fans are saying that wasn't a penalty. Van Dijk tried to pull out but it was too late, he clearly caught Lamela. Very clumsy defending by the £75m man. He hasn't had the best of starts to his Liverpool career, it must be said.

Anyway, good result for us and late heartbreak for Liverpool. I make that a decent Sunday's football.
:lol::ffs:. Still trolling Nlsson

this offside rule in relation to the first pen is a pile of crap too. the defender has seemingly got to guess whether the linesman will call an offside - if he guesses wrong he looks an utter twat and allows the opposition to score

Yeah that one is genuinely fucked up. Van Dijk tries to clear the ball so that it doesn't reach Kane, ergo Kane affects the play. It makes so little sense it's absurd.

So the linesman doesn't understand the rules of the game then, and the ref either guessed or heard something they'd got from the monitor that they're not supposed to be using.

I always thought they were using the replays to be honest because why else do they listen to their headsets, and this just proves it.

Without controversy involving Liverpool the forum wouldn't make half the profit that it does, which we all know is the main objective.

Fuck the majority I'm in it for the admins.

Thank you mate I quoted and will head over to give you a like now as well quality post.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Both penalties. Letter of the law (if not the spirit) the ball came to Kane after the guy had deliberately played it. Second one, he went through the back of his legs.

It seems the two officials aren't the only ones who don't know the rules.

Aside from Abertawe you could predict every poster's opinion on the matter without reading their posts.

I didn't want Spurs to get anything. Lots of my worst enemies have Kane as their dreamteam captain while I champion Mo Salad. So I sure as shit didn't want that 2nd pen, but it's a pen.
Also I have VvD, but I've seen a doctor about that and have been assured it'll be cleared up if I keep applying the cream.

Shut up chimp.

Go through every poster and ask yourself if you could've guessed their take on the situations and you tell me I'm wrong. You tell me. But I'm not. I'm not wrong, chimp.

Yeah, but you think it's somehow harsh to send someone off for planting their studs into someone's face six feet off the ground...

There is one thing that the officials definitely got wrong. Having adjudged Kane to be onside and Karius to have brought him down, surely Karius should have been sent off as last man and therefore should not have been on the pitch to save Kane's penalty. Should have been 3-2 Spurs !

Considering Salah's goal was Liverpool's only shot of the second half, do I then presume they should have been 12-0 up at half time?:bg:

That's right, at least that's what Saltire, Bilo, Pagnell and G-Dragon were shouting.

No they didn't. The triple punishment rule was changed pre season.

Gotta feel sorry for Liverpool. I've seen the goals from the game and can only wonder at what the officials were doing giving Spurs either of those penalties. I think if they (the officials) had their time again, they wouldn't give them.

Do football officials get assessed on their decision making.? My digging reveals that referees are assessed on a number of things (application of the laws, judgement of ten yards at free kicks, etc), but their interpretation of what constitutes a foul or handball or whatever is not. And that surprises me.

F'rinstance, if an assistant referee gets an offside call wrong (as happened on Sunday),that is put down as an acceptable error (and with the pace of the game being what it is, that's fair enough). But if the referee then re-started the game with a direct free kick, he would be pulled up by his assessor for incorrect application of the laws.

Surely there must be some sort of system whereby an official who repeatedly makes incorrect calls.... more than what might be expected due to human fallibility..... might he be sent for re-training, or dropped down to a lower division or something...??

Over to you, fellas. Enlighten me. LOL.

Given that lots of refs, current and former have said they were bang on the money, I doubt they'll need dropping/retraining.

I won't be able to offer any enlightenment at this time but one thing I will say is that I don't think you have to feel sorry for Liverpool. Ever.
