It won't be much of an issue between the players themselves, it'll blow over between the three in no time. Gerrard was the worst of the lot of them.

Slightly jaded performance there, a couple of the important players looked like they could do with a bit of time out. Coutinho in particular clearly needs a rest, should be benched v Saints, we've got enough options to afford him that. I'd leave him out the next leg too.

Not really, it's basic journalism. Liverpool beating Besiktas 1-0 at Anfield has basically no news value, whereas any sign of a split (especially including players like Henderson, Balotelli and Sturridge) has a lot more.

I guess if you're interested in sensationalizing it then yes, but good sports journalism doesn't need to. I'd rather read about the game then about a few players argueing which happens in every single game.

I'm a journalist, so I know a fair bit about this subject and the truth is this: everyone says exactly the same thing as you just did, but put the articles next to eachother and you'll get much, much more clicks on the one about the argument rather than the match.

It's not sensationalizing anything, it's journalism in a world where no one pays for journalism.

It doesn't though. Liverpool beating Besiktas at home 1-0 isn't surprising. Players arguing over who should be taking a spot kick when captain fantastic is away is. It's not a common occurrence. If it was, nobody would have said shit. But as it's not something you see every game, it's been highlighted.

Bilo and JimJams make excellent points. I have many frustrations with the media, but this is not an example of sensationalism, it's simply writing what garners the most interest; therefore it is in the best interests of those in the industry and it isn't particularly harmful. I find Gerrard publicly commenting on this stranger than I find the media reporting that it happened. Liverpool, like Milan and Man City before them, were well aware of the extra attention Balotelli brings upon himself and those around him.

Gerrard's comments were the worst part of it. Threw his teammate under the bus, one who already draws enough negative attention, when he didn't have to. Henderson & Rodgers dealt with it (afterwards) much better.
