Sutton have just one player and a keeper on a short term loan. What are you thoughts on loan players, have they worked for your club? How many does your club have?

Forest Green have one, a forward called Jack Aitchison, on loan from Barnsley. We had him the season before last when he was with Celtic, so it is fair to say that he is a known quantity, although the top of our management have changed since he was here previously.

I think loan players can be a bit hit or miss, we have had some who have been pretty good and contributed a lot to the team...others less so...for every Robert Sanchez there are plenty of....hmm, can't remember!

We have:

Dennis Politic - Coming back from a season out with Bolton, highly rated his first touch Saturday was a rifled equaliser into the top corner, main issue is fitting him into the system but looked excellent last night and should be a huge player over the season.

Lewis Cass - Nicknamed Lewis Class by the fans... hes been superb... would love us to sign permanently. Hartlepool fans were spot on about him.

George Lloyd - Not had much game time but seems a good option of the bench especially if defending a lead as he chases everything from the front. Doesn't look like he will get us many goals which strikers are judged on but does offer that and needs game time.

We've had some real crap in recent seasons at time bar maybe Jake Taylor so its been a huge improvement on utilising it sensibly (rather than have 6 or 7 loanees like we have had at times in the past meaning all couldnt feature!)

He will play, we are giving him time to ge fit after his long lay off. Seems a decent lad with a good attitude to go with his talent.

Think if you can get him into your system he will rip lge 2 apart.......we have offered him a new deal and as yet he has not signed.....would be a coup if you could sign him permanent

Rovers have;

Ross Doohan Celtic’s 4th or 5th choice keeper, doing well.

Lee O’Connor Celtic right-back/defensive midfielder good cover.

Josh Hawkes Sunderland winger impressed so far.

Paul Glatzel Liverpool striker. So far looks skilful but too lightweight to cope with the L2 rough and tumble

Stephen Walker Middlesbrough forward. Has pace, which we lack up front and recovering from covid when we loaned. Unclear whether this or him failing the attitude test as some rumours suggest accounts for his appearances to date being limited to the Pizza Cup where he scored last night.

Think that’s it.

We've got Festus Arthur on loan from Hull. Massive and still young for a centre back but he looks awful - hasn't really played much and we've picked midfielders in defence ahead of him. Can't see him being here after Christmas.

Newcastle rate him very highly so that probably means he's all yours.

Loan players, well like most lower league clubs we've had many in through the door. Probably MadJohn would give you some stats but in ratio terms most don't really make a huge impact and you forget they ever existed. We've had some cracking loans in the past but yeah mostly they're on loan 'cos they're kids or coming back injury/frozen out etc.

At the minute I think we have 4 all on loan from Championship clubs. Tyler Burey from Millwall is the pick but sadly he's crocked. Matty Daly from Huddersfield, pissing it in the Pizza Cup, not done too much in proper games, Will Goodwin a forward from Stoke who is a decent player but needs to be more ruthless in the box and Eddy Jones a LB also from Stoke who looks solid enough as a back up.

I wouldn't want to rely on loans but in answer to the OP they are a necessary market to use as a L2 club.

Crawley have two loanees.

Will Ferry from Southampton. A small left footed midfielder/full back who has looked pretty good but got injured v Bradford a week or so ago.

Amrit Bansal-McNulty from QPR. A small central midfielder. Saw him last night for the first time. Got bullied a bit by the Orient midfield but did have some nice touches.

Last season we had Jake Hesketh from Southampton. He looked OK but was always getting injured. That's one of the problems with loanees. You just don't know what you will get and they take up squad space. I would presume the top clubs let the smaller clubs know off any issues but presumption ain't fact.

We have Hayden Hackney, Harry Wood and Jake Scrimshaw. They are all shit and an insult to the game. No wonder their clubs don’t want them

He will get his chance, can’t really change a side on the form we are in as well but once he breaks in then it will be his place to lose.

I reckon he could do the job in the centre in the attacking midfield role so if we lose Conlon to injury he would be ideal.

Much as I miss the days when loans were rarer and strictly short-term, I think the loan market is a necessity in these days when big clubs hoover up such vast numbers of players. It's arguable that we would not have won promotion last season if it wasn't for the impact made by our two season-long players in particular: Lewis Cass and Luke Armstrong. very few Pools fans will have been surprised to see that they have made the step up with ease and I would have been very happy to have kept hold of both of them. As well as those two, others came in and did important short term jobs, notably Richie Bennett but also the likes of Tyler Magloire, Tom White and Danny Elliott. And of course the final decisive touch of a football for Hartlepool United as a National League club was made by on loan Boro keeper Brad James. As well as those we also had (and still have) Luke Molyneux, Mark Shelton, and Timi Odusina, who signed permanently for us last summer having been on loan the previous season, as did Gary Liddle though we know him of old (over 300 appearances for the club)

Over the years we've had some stars. A lot of Poolies when asked to name their favourite all-time player, would go for Jan Ove Pedersen, a Norwegian international midfielder who played just 20 times for us over 20 years ago. Some loanees have gone on to have long and successful careers with us as permanent signings (Paul Dalton, Micky Barron, Andy Monkhouse). Others have stepped in and done an important short-term job (Darryl Duffy, Roy O'Donovan, Aaron Tshibola, David Mirfin, Steve Harper, Kevin Poole). But most, not so much. You could pick a very good side made up entirely of ex-loan players, but boy you could pick a bad one.

Paul Glatzel is rated as the next big thing by Liverpool. He needs to be recalled and loaned out to a club in Europe because he cannot handle League 2 and its rougharse approach. Elliot Nevitt has come from tier 9 and is brushing off defenders because thats what he is used to playing against. Most Premier League Academy loanees cannot cope with the physical side of lower league football.

See it all the time playing the B teams in the Pizza cup, they ping it around nicely but once you get stuck in they are nowhere to be seen. Probably why so many from these clubs disappear into oblivion as coached to be technically good but not physically.

How many of that 2017 England u17 World Cup winning side are playing 1st team now. Doubt its many below the Premier Division. We had Nya Kirby on loan last season and he couldn't cope.
They need to bring back the old reserve leagues and let them toughen up against lower league journeymen.

Just a keeper and two outfield players, none of whom are currently first team, though that might change. Chris Beech (or maybe its Holsworth) isn't really a fan of loanees. Last season we just had Kayode going into the season and then added a couple others but didn't really make use of them.

We have Theo Archibald (left sided winger/forward) from Lincoln on a season loan and Alex Mitchell (CB) from Millwall. Both have had a big impact and look good players. I think we may well try to sign Archibald later in the season if he can continue in the same form. He is definitely enjoying his football at the moment.

We have two - Bowden from Spurs and Bettache from QPR. Both have done nothing so far though there’s definitely a player in Bettache.

Our loanees being rubbish has played a part in us being where we are as since we’ve been in L2, loanees have been some of our best players each year - Daniel Iversen, Sam Surridge, Callum Lang, Jonny Smith, Alfie McCalmont - all playing at higher levels now.

Before that in L1, Conor Ripley and Eoin Doyle were immense.

I don’t like relying on loans but what I’d do to have some of them back now.
