I think it’s fair that we earn some major rock points with Lemmy from Motörhead and Slash from GNR.

Just noticed my phone automatically put the umlaut in Motörhead. That is awesome!

Nailsworth Silver Band :2thumb:

There's a prog rock outfit from Stroud called Pendragon I've seen a few times at local festivals, bit sub-Marillion and not my thing but apparently big in Poland. Also punky art rock from Blurt, used to serve a few of them when i worked in the pub. Can't think of anyone else.

Pendragon LOL! I had a friend once that just kept raving on and on about them to just about everybody. He tried to get me to listen to some of their music but I could just about stand a couple of mins before I couldn't take it anymore. Yeah you're right, I would lump them together with Marillion and the like, so called 'progressive' pop/rock bands. Not for me, but something tells me Habbinalan is a fan of theirs?

OTOH, this Blurt band you mention might be worth a listen. I'll check out YT in a little while and see what I can find out about them.

I could be wrong but I think Tom Smith (the singer from The Editors) was born in Stroud. I really enjoyed their first two albums but then they changed their trademark sound and went for a more mainstream one unfortunately.

One abiding memory of Pendragon is me and a mate sturggling not to crack up as they had a wind machine blowing the singer's bouffant just so going during their turn at some really pissant "festival" that was a few bands in a field.
Blurt must admit never really listened to, very art and avant garde I think.
Anyone more recent than about 2000 and I'll have been away too long.

Never heard of Pendragon. They came long after my long hair prog rock days. Most of my albums from the early seventies have still not had a play since I rediscovered vinyl - they still seem to be going up in value though.

Forest Green's own punk band, Milk Teeth might be more up your street.

^ More grunge than punk I think, and I was never a big grunge fan, bar Kurt and the boys obviously. Then again, there are other so called grunge bands that I like (Pumpkins, Bush etc) but I never did file said bands under the grunge label.

I'm a bit surprised you've never heard of Pendragon before tbh, unless you were done with the whole prog scene after 1976 or something. They were one of those 2nd gen of prog bands back in the early 80's together with the likes of Marillion and Twelfth Night. I do enjoy quite a bit of prog myself as long as it's not too OTT, so while I do appreciate T2, King Crimson, Camel, VDGG etc, I haven't got time for Genesis, Yes and nearly all 80's 2nd gen prog bands.

Agreed on vinyl records. Some genres like prog and punk were always in high demand but I'm amazed that even silly pop stuff is going for ridiculous amounts currently.

By 1976, largely thanks to John Peel, I had discovered The Ramones.

Looking on the shelf, I was clearly moving on from stumbling around in the mid 70s to embrace reggae and punk. I have virtually none of the later albums of bands that seemed fresh in the early 70s. Only 1975 choices bought at the time seem to be:

Man - Maximum Darkness
Bruce Springstein - Born to Run
Burning Spear - Marcus Garvey
Bob Marley & The Wailers - Live

1976 was a bit more inspiring with

Dr Feelgood - Stupidity
Graham Parker - Heat Treatment
Blondie - Blondie
The Ramones - Ramones
Bunny Wailer - Blackheart Man

I think there's some Clapton, JJ Cale, Jethro Tull, (say it quietly) Supertramp and Bowie in there as well.

By 1977, the transition was complete, with Clash, Jam, Ian Dury, Sex Pistols, lots of Reggae and delving back into old blues.
