The ref was definitely itching to even it up i think, he started booking Lincoln players for fouls that, what in my view, werent really bookings. Didnt help themselves particularly though, kicking the ball away right in front of a card happy ref isnt exaclty a smart move and it cost the lad.

Sheehan was just bloody stupid, kept half an eye on it after the first aerial ball between the 2 where there was a bit of afters and thought something might happen.

As Hatter86 says, Rhead left an arm in on Sheehan on the next one, Sheehan took exception to it and sort of pulled him, looked like Rhead swung toward Sheehan to slap him away and then Sheehan reacted by swinging himself, unfortunately for him just as the ref turned around and saw it. Really not clever at all from Sheehan, should have just done what Rhead did and gone down like a sack of potatoes and would have likely gone the other way around!

Can see why the ref said something to Cowley, after that Rhead was well and truly the villain of the piece and was getting into it with the crowd and all sorts. He would definitely have sent him off if he had stayed on I think

Almost forgot in all the excitement - Lincoln using the old Westley tactic of the keeper going down "injured" so he can have a 2 minute team huddle while he receives "treatment" was properly disgraceful.

Bloody loved that. You can take your 7-0s and 8-2s, nothing beats that type of backs to the wall performance. That goal from James Justin is my moment of the season so far.

I'm going to assume that was an off day for Lincoln because their results from the last season and a half suggest they are a lot better than what they showed today. Outside the start of the second half they really didn't turn up. I've never seen a team so dominant with 10 men against 11.

Certainly no Luton fan can make much of an issue about Rhead's antics today when we have Hylton, fortunately for us while they might be on the same level as wind up merchants our Danny is a lot better at sticking the ball in the net. Happy days.

By the way, not surprised to see Port Vale lost today, it can be difficult to get yourself back up for a regular league game after winning your cup final a couple of days before. Bit unfair to make them play again so soon really when they've only just finished the open top bus parade.

The 'keeper is actually injured, but I know what you mean. It was Farman last year (who again, was carrying an injury but not necessarily one who needed treatment because he was having injections and then operated on in the summer).

Farman usually gifts you lot a goal! That was all he seemed to do against you in the NL!

Prayers are with Matt Rhead tonight after he was taken out by that midfield hatchet man, Luke Berry (all 5 foot 6 of him). Hope he makes a full recovery from what was clearly a a life career threatening injury.

Lincoln in the first half today were an absolute disgrace - maybe they should cash in the airmiles, because they were flying that much into tackles.

As soon as Rhead went off (before he was sent off), the aerial threat disintegrated and Green didn't exactly seem that he fancied that battle in his absence.

Luton were well worth their victory and arguably should've won by more if Stech wasn't doing his best Paul Farman impression today. He is a great goalkeeper, but surely James Shea needs to be offered a chance in between the sticks, because he cost us twice today, as well as his other errors so far this season.

Luke Berry is an absolute machine - he ran and ran and ran. He was everywhere. The cross for the third goal was superb.

It was a far more disciplined performance today, Sheehan aside, in terms of character and shape. With all the stuff Lincoln were doing to stifle, frustrate and rough them up, they stood firm. A Champions performance.

Watching the highlights Sheehan has indeed thrown not one but two punches, well deserved red. Jones gave him both barrels in his post match interview, he's on the naughty step now. Lincoln red equally well deserved though, not sure what video Cowley has looked at if he thinks that challenge isn't worth at least a yellow.

That's a great finish from Stech for our 2nd, though.

Anderson's is a second yellow and red IMO. Not sure why Cowley thought it wasn't.

According to Cowley, he won the ball fairly.

That's in the Lincoln City parallel footballing universe.

Sounds like Berry had a good game today. I’ve not really been paying much attention to him but heard he didn’t play against Vale so was looking for him today. He’s a player who doesn’t need resting so I was surprised he didn’t play on Saturday.

He's been our best player the last couple of months I reckon, been sensational. Plays a lot deeper for us than he did for you so not so many goals but his all-round game is brilliant, best midfielder I've seen at this level since Ryan Woods at Shrewsbury.

What a game! The type of game and win that gives you a buzz for the next few days. Listened to NJs interview and I agree that we played extremely well when we had one man less. I felt then that if we got a goal then it would make the game interesting. When Lincoln got a player sent off there was only going to be one winner. Disappointed with Sheehan. Rhead clearly wound him up but as captain you have to remember your role in the team. Its easy to get caught up in individual battles but the consequences for such a reaction can have a devastating affect on the game. Fortunately the players reacted well and the sending off spurred on the crowd. We had a debate on here about Stacey or JJ and both played (presume Potts is injured). Just as well as both had decent games. JJs strike for the second goal was clinical and he ran Danny Hylton close for MoM (the offical Mom), although my choice would have been Berry who was excellent today in everything he did. A quality buy. Lincoln contributed to the game in their own way. Not my style of football to watch but I can see why its effective. The introduction of Cornick was the ace in the pack. After absorbing some Lincoln pressure in the second half we turned the match around and put the Lincoln defence under pressure. Just a matter of time before the goals came. In fact could have been 5 with Collins shot off the underside of the bar.
So the Vale defeat was a blip thankfully and not the start of a bad run. Now we have Newcastle in the cup before we get back to business at out of form Chesterfield.
Final word on Stech. A fantastic keeper but those two mistakes could have cost us today. The second almost looked like he deliberately chucked the ball in his own net. They aren't the first errors either. Cheltenham away springs to mind. He needs to eradicate those errors to fullfull his obvious potential.

Should a ref really be saying that during a game? Genuine question, I’m in two minds.
That happened with some guy from Mansfield against us, ref told him one more and you're off so Evans subbed him at half time.

Matt Rhead going down like a 'sack of shit' to get a player sent off?

Well there's a fucking rarity........

Just to echo JD, I think he is total class to be honest. Everything he does is just.. brilliant, great on the ball, you rarely if ever see him waste a pass and he is always looking to do something positive with it, scores the odd belter and to go with all that quality on the ball he has just has ridiculous energy levels to win the ball back. Even gets up to win headers you think he probably shouldnt. Just a stand out player and to my mind absolutely integral to our success this season.

You know all that of course. Consider ourselves very lucky to have him to be honest, dont think he should be at this level at all.

Love everything about him as a player, even his rolled down socks!

It’s the reason why Stech isn’t playing Championship football.

A good game marred by repeated assaults on the league's best striker. #justiceforrheady

Seriously though, considering how knackered we looked in the last 10 mins against FGR, to go to Luton with a squad still suffering from flu and give them a proper game is a testament to how good we are. Some good January additions and who knows where we'll end up

One other thing, I don't post on Twitter myself but follow the LCFC feed for in-game updates as I can't listen to coverage for various reasons. I can't believe how many moronic comments were posted by Luton fans yesterday. I know you're one of the better-supported sides down here so naturally have more idiots than other clubs, but my word, it's something else. I suppose having read a bit of the outlaws forum, it should come as no surprise.

It was also one of those games that brings out the most partisan i think!

Also, going on twitter and expecting anything resembling sensible discourse is something of an error i feel.

Why are Lincoln keepers always injured hmmm. Farman kept going down when they played Notts. Perhaps it's time that the refs stopped players heading to the bench for instructions when a player is injured? Might clear up Lincoln's goalkeeper injuries?

If you actually read what you've quoted you'll know why. I'm not sure banning mid-half team talks cures double groin hernia's or strained quads but we can give it a whirl.

On Boxing Day, a Stevenage player went down injured and they had a mini team talk (as did Stevenage).

Against Notts Farman kept holding his ankle, a team talk would happen then he'd pop back up again without so much as a squirm and no impact on his kicking...

You use it as a cheating spoiling tactic, if the goalie was injured, how come the sub goalie is never warming up?
