Don't think that was a red at all for Kompany. Yellow was fair. He got the ball but it was just a bit too dangerous. A caution was a fair punishment from the ref.

Thought City deserved that overall but I have to say I thought the game lacked the quality we're used to seeing from these sides.

Both GKs aren't great as their distribution is generally poor for Prem standard. What was the L'pool keeper (Addison is it?) doing for Aguero's goal? Can't be beaten at that angle. Poor defending & goal keeping

The keepers probably are the best two in the league with the ball at their feet, massive result for City in quite an enjoyable game. Makes the title race very interesting in the second half of the season, and I still fancy City to win it. Especially if they bring in a left back because playing makeshifts there isn't ideal, Laporte looked well out of place.

Also thought that was a red but I also thought Van Dijk should have been sent off versus Napoli which this was very similar to. There is a difference between cleanly playing the ball and then touching the ball and wiping somebody out who otherwise would have been throw on goal.

Great game and now Liverpool have lost at least one game I am happy for them to win the league. Would have been unbearable hearing them crow about that.

I'm not sure Salah's alleged diving against Newcastle had any impact on Kompany's decision to leap off the ground at full speed.

Oh, I'd forgotten all about that. I was thinking of his dives against Arsenal. I'm personally on the refs side here mate, there's no way he could 100% trust that there was actually any contact at all given Salah's previous cheating.

The rulebook makes no mention of getting the ball, but this is what it says about overly aggressive tackles, which I think translates well to excessive force:

"Using excessive force is when a player exceeds the necessary use of force and endangers the safety of an opponent and must be sent off."

Whether or not there was contact isn't relevant to whether the tackle is dangerous, and should render a red.

Apologies, I always read it when you said he's off the ground studs are up as both feet are up. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

By the letter of the law, sure - it can be deemed as a red card. But then so should 95% of all takles.

Sometimes common sense is needed - was he going to break Salah's leg? Most likely not. It was just a strong tackle.

What is to say any of these aren't also reds based on a screenshot?

Like you say though, perhaps agree to disagree is the best option here

VvD's tackle on Mertens was a horror tackle regardless of him winning the ball. He certainly got more contact on Mertens than Kompany got on Salah (who milked very little contact).

Still sitting at the top of the league and 4 points ahead of the nearest challengers ,yeah ,I will take that all fucking day long ! As for the game itself ,it was lost as soon as the team sheet was announced ,when we deemed 'a clearly unfit' Milner as a starter but maybe that's just being churlish of me to suggest we stifled our biggest threat in Mane ,Salah and Firmino by nullifying the invention and pace in midfield to supply them ?

The Kompany tackle probably was a red card by the letter of the law, but it's not the sort of thing you'd normally get a red card for in the Premier League, so it would be weirdly inconsistent of them randomly brandish one now, especially in such a massive game.
