That was me and with everyone fit I stand by it. Given Herrera was unavailable yesterday I probably would've played him instead of Rooney but our problem wasn't really who started. Bringing Fellaini on with 30 minutes to go and putting him in central midfield was silly from van Gaal, he's ok to stick up top with 10-15 minutes left when you need a goal but it's very hard to control a game with him in CM.

I'm a big fan of Herrera but regardless, Mata should be walking into a team as dull and un-creative as this one.

As I told you last time he's too slow and weak for my liking, prone to moments of class but not enough to be carried for the rest of the time. He's been as dull and un creactive as anyone lately so can have no complaints about being left out.

I can't disagree with your sentiment, Mata is an incredibly talented player who can do the quick-one-two-through-ball but when he isn't doing that and the ball is stuck amongst out CBs and DMs, he's useless. That's when Herrera is the soldier, he'll recognise the problem and try stimulate movement forward.
