Did anyone else catch Owen say about Alderweireld "he had a good season at Tottenham last season and now he's moved to Spurs, let's see how he fits in" - or something to that effect?
Yep he did lol..i just sat there for a sec and though maybe i was wrong..but nope, owen was clueless. Didn't even try to make it up.

Romero has made some great saves.

Michael Owen criticising the save that pushed the ball away from the goal and lauding over the save that pushed the ball into the middle. Football is back.

We were lucky there. Spurs deserved something out of it. Still a clean sheet and a win is good start. Work to do on creating chances though

Boring game. Both teams need more creativity, United will regret selling Di Maria unless they bring somebody in.

Smalling MotM for me. Him, Darmian and Romero all looked good, despite the commentary constantly trying to make out the keeper was shaky just cos of a few wayward kicks.
Utd still very disjointed on the attack, too much of the ball goes wide to Young, though obviously that's down to the match last season. But Mata central would have been better I'd have thought.
Spurs defence looked pretty good but for the one moment for the goal, but Kane and Eriksen aside their attacking play was shite. Dembele and Chadli weren't nearly productive enough going forward, and they needed to be with Bentaleb and Dier starting.

Lucky United winning games without scoring and shit.

Missed most of the game but watched the first and last 15 minutes. Seemed like a bore to be honest. De Gea gone then?

Turgid football. Romero looked a safe pair of hands but was clearly shaky at the passing around defence, like every other player. Other than a solid game from Darmian there's nothing to shout about.

Walker was MOTM for having Young in his pocket all game, seeing as that was our only creative outlet he pretty much stomped out our game.

Fantastic, very happy with that. We controlled the game from the moment we (Walker) scored and for the small amount of time we were on the back foot, Smalling and Romero were fantastic. Last season we'd have fucked that up.

Lovely.

I wouldn't say we controlled the game, rather we had men in the right position to defend. We looked a bit more dangerous when Schweini came on, he was positive and shifted the ball around enough to create a bit of space. One shot on target shit.

You were shit, however I will defend them as its the opening day and all you want in your first game is a win, which you got.

I'm biting the rest of my nails at the thought of Stoke away tomorrow though I have to admit! :D

We were shit. Controlled the game, but never threatened much. I'd like to see Depay/Mata/Rooney rotate a bit as it all got very rigid. I expect us to get much better now that the first game is done. Darmian and Smalling were great though.

The rigidness is the biggest problem, we're waiting to pounce on a mistake rather than imposing ourselves.

It's the first game of the season, I'm more than happy with the performance - particularly as we had a few new players making their debuts.

United's defence was good. Especialy Darmian. Don't know why he was taken off.
But United has to get Fellaini back. As good as Young was, they need someone to help him.

Darmian and Smalling were great, yeah.

Fellaini served a purpose last season and did it well, but who would you replace with him this season Liu? Our midfield is pretty strong now and I can't see him taking Rooney, Young or Depay's place and that leaves Mata, who is likely to be benched for Pedro or another attacking signing if that one doesn't go through. There is definitely a place for him in certain games at certain times but I don't think Van Gaal plans to give him much game time this season.

Darmian went off because he was struggling with cramp.

Even though Id prefer hererra I still wouldnt mind Depay being pushed out wide for Fellaini with Young dropping to the bench. Fellaini is such a great outball and has more end product than Young. Would leave us even slower but Im not sure it makes that much difference with how we play.

Im hoping if Pedro is signed Young will go back to where he belongs and any of Mata, Herrera and Fellaini take the spot supporting Rooney with Depay and Pedro out wide.

Don't think you can afford to drop Young. He's a big threat on the left and also does well defensively. I am not convinced by Depay yet. I believe that he has the potential but right now, playing Fellaini alongside Rooney would be an effective but less risky option, especialy in big games. I'd like to see Depay taking his time while adapting to this league. He can be a good rotation option.

He was actually really good for most of the game though surprisingly. I probably won't even grimace when I see his name in the England squad.

He defended and everything, it was very out of character.

Young struggled against Walker. Your not a United calibre winger if you can't get past him.
