Manager of the season

Now we all know where we have finished, play offs aside, who would you say is the Championship Manager of the season?
I'm torn between 2 in all honesty although honorable mentions to Hughton at Brighton, Grayson at PNE, Gary Monk at Leeds and Dean Smith at Brentford.
Wagner at Huddersfield has done a brilliant job to get the Terriers where they are with a budget a fair bit smaller than some seriously big clubs that finished behind them.
Nigel Clough has really surprised me at Burton. I didn't think he was particularly good if I'm being honest but he didn't just keep them up, he played some great stuff as well. All credit to him and Burton Albion on a job well done.
If pushed, I think I would plump for Clough.
What say you?

Heckingbottom at Barnsley did a great job until he has his team decimated, but Clough should get the plaudits for me, keeping Burton up was no mean feat.

Wagner has had 18 months at Huddersfield now and has impressed, Monk perhaps did well but faltered at a crucial time.

Indeed, I should have mentioned Heckingbottom as well, another one doing a fine job.

Only had a pre-season to evaluate what he had available to him and add to it, Wagner had half of last season to get himself prepared but that's not taking any credit away from the job that he's done.

After the disappointment of last season they nailed it this year.

If we pull of the unthinkable and win the play offs then it has to be Wagner. We don't just have a smaller budget than the others, it's less than half compared to the club's we're up against. And it's down to excellent man management, improving what he had, and good recruitment of players no one had heard of.

No qualms with people saying Clough, I remember watching Burton get promoted to the football league on Setanta Sports, thinking what a great achievement it was for them. And again it's down to good management, from my basic knowledge of them he's got the players to totally believe in what hes doing and they're all giving 100% to make it work. In a season where you lose more than you win, it can't be easy to keep a group of players together and motivated when there are many occasions where your best efforts come to nothing.

I agree that I wouldn't have Benitez at the top, but you only have to look at all of the sides that don't bounce back at the first attempt, including Villa this year (who incidentally sold less and spent more than Newcastle) to see that he has done a pretty damn good job. Especially when you consider the poor start, could easily have imploded after that. I would have put him third.

Smith shouldn't win this, but he has done a really good job keeping us in the top 10 again considering we keep selling our best players. Will be interesting to see what we can do if we keep the squad together over the summer.

Got to be Hughton or Cloughie for me as 1st and 2nd - both done incredible jobs at different ends of the table. Stam did well too, but a lot of the pieces were already there at Reading.
