Sampson had a brief spell as our caretaker manager last season assisted by Alex Revell - between the Maamria and Westley appointments (was a good couple of months). Revell is now manager and Sampson is on his coaching staff.

The whole situation with the FA and Sampson was pretty bizarre. The FA made an absolute mess of handling the situation, ended up sacking him for something they knew about 2-3 years earlier and subsequently paid him a settlement for unfair dismissal. He was cleared of racism but the FA still ended up apologising to the players that had accused him when another investigation suggested that Mark Sampson made comments that were "discriminatory on the grounds of race".

Whilst with us he was accused of racism by a former coach, shortly after being dismissed by the club. Dino Maamria gave evidence against Sampson backing the claim (Maamria and the coach were sacked by the club at the same time, Sampson stayed and took the caretaker role). Sampson was charged by the FA but the case was later dismissed as it couldn't be proven.

From a footballing perspective, he was best of a bad bunch last season but it was nothing special, football was pretty shit too. We are talking a relatively small sample size. Can't imagine his time here will appeal to those on the outside looking in. There was a cloud hanging over him before he was appointed, further allegations whilst he's been with us and when he had a window to showcase himself we were bang average.

Interview with Carol tonight and looks as though as long as results are stable Danny Pugh will be interim until the end of the season to give him chance and keep the focus on this current season before taking the decision on permanent in the summer.

He will continue to be backed by Frank Sinclair, Billy Paynter and Anthony Griffith.

Something revealed which has angered fans though is that the players have been ringing Carol and apologising for not performing to standard in recent weeks. That is an absolute disgrace!

Bit of an explosive interview with Pope tonight on the radio.

Although claims no falling out with Askey he does say Askey lied to him to lose him the captaincy and essentially pushed him to give it up.

Players felt he should of played more last season and came to a head before the Crewe game where he didn’t play despite prep all week to “beat them up and be physical” which saw him finally give it up.

Evatt to leave Bolton by mutual consent - and then take the Stockport job - he wants to move to a bigger club with more potential.... and team up with Rooney again

Is it true that Bolton have been playing crowd noise inside their stadium on match days??? Seen a few comments alluding to it.

What's with Stockport sacking Gannon. We all know he's a tit , but a very good manager.

Yeah excellent manager... probably one of the most bizarre reigns of any manager in our history and the shortest for a permanent I believe! He was absolutely nuts!

Inherited Micky Adams squad that was second in the league... then against Crewe away in his first league game randomly throws in two youth players (don’t think they ever played again anywhere!) which we lost of course.

Tore up everything that had us flying, eventually ended up scrapping with Geoff Horsfield on the coach down to Aldershot and got off half way down... believe the players were chanting as he did!

Fired in March after a 3-0 at Accrington saw the fans fighting Exodus Geogaghon as they let the team know their feelings (sadly though some racist comments).

Couldn’t recover the mess he’d left in time and missed out on the play offs when automatic seemed likely up until he came in.

He is infamous at Vale Park

Reading between the lines on various Tweets, he has either been bullying players or worse...
Some are also saying they've been approaching managers for the past month, and then you have Stockport fans who are convinced they are getting the Cowleys.

Looks like we are now going to appoint a manager and have been in talks with a shortlist of candidates (maybe the Parkinson rumours of him being there Saturday are linked).

They do want Danny Pugh to stay on as a coach though.
Huge news for us really it has to happen.

Parkinson would be a good appointment.

Bit more left field, but Frank Lampard is also available, keep the Chelsea connection going what with Frank Sinclair being there and that.

Interviews have now begun and Danny Pugh has ruled himself out.

Looking for an experienced manager so see what we get.

Our fans all want us to go in for Derek Adams, didn’t he apply for Bradford?

I’d want Cowley but highly unlikely...

Ive become intrigued at the Murray option also.

Have to see, need to get this right though!

Holloway has got to be the man for you.

Apparently he leaves every club he works for in a better position than when he joined.

What a completely deluded cockwomble.

Flitcroft has flew up the betting odds. Now 5/1.

Coughlan still odds on favourite but doesn’t really fit the remit Carol has suggested.

He doesn’t but neither does Flitcroft who is essentially a chequebook manager and not even a particularly good one. My overriding memory of him was Swindon fans were not displeased see the back of him and he went to Mansfield who looked good for automatic promotion and they fell short whether that’s fair or not.

I’m not sure who does fit all of Carols criteria. Even say a Mcgreal from what I understand he and Colchester parted ways as they wanted to focus on developing young talent and clearly he had a different vision.

Would probably say go with an Adam Murray so long as he has someone as assistant to be prepared to kick a few arses among the squad as you know some of them will try and push their luck straight away.

Murray though hasn’t had the success Carol mentions! Must be Pep!

Flitcroft is a great manager for the training ground, and does definitely improve players, so I’m not sure he would need a massive chequebook.

he is a bottle job though, clearly struggles with the pressure at the business end.

Obviously the better of those two options would depend on who you asked.

Swindon fans might tell you to steer clear of Flitcroft. Bristol Rovers fans might then tell you Coughlan wouldn't be bad. And then Mansfield fans might tell you Flitcroft would be preferable if they're the only options.

The lines between the three viewpoints would be like a Penrose staircase. One where you're perennially walking downwards ofc, not up.

Sky Sports reporting that Wimbledon want Neil Cox as their manager, would be a bizarre appointment.

Rumours that the manager expected to be appointed early this week (likely Flitcroft) hasn’t been able to agree terms and we are now looking at other options.

Slipped now on Skybet from 1/8 to 1/2 with McGreal now seeing his odds slashed.
