I think Dunn is a risk. I’d have gone for EFL experience to takeover a squad of players who are mostly new to this level.

Didn’t you have quite a few loans from Blackburn? Maybe renewing them is a factor in getting Dunn with his Blackburn connection.

Gareth Southgate got Boro relegated and is now England manager!
Not sure how much of an indicator that Oldham spell can be, given that he was there as a player but got thrown into management too early.

He could be dreadful, but I think his connections with Blackpool and Blackburn are a definite plus point.

Definitely nor a guarantee of success - though Peter Atherton seemed a great foil for Ian Evatt.

Who wouldn't represent a risky appointment though at this level? Anyone within budget is either a recently-retired player or some old has-been like Keith Hill.

David Dunn has 3 wins in 22 games as a manager, I would take Keith Hill over him. We have Russ Wilcox though so I would take anyone over him.

Not really. He had a tough gig at Barnsley in the Championship having jumped from L2, then had a 40% win ratio (for the second time) over 6 or 7 years at Rochdale and Bolton is self explanatory.

I’ll go out on a whim and say Keith Hill is much more likely to be a better appointment than Dunn - not that we will find out now.

Depends on ambition, for me due to the weird scenario the league will be in next season I wouldn’t just be thinking about survival, but if that was the case even somebody like Paul Cox would be a better appointment, the football would absolutely be shite but I’d put my house that he would keep anybody up.

Just have to be careful not to stick up for Matt Rhead when he deliberately elbows somebody like many Lincoln fans did

Risky I'd probably agree, but our board have changed the club massively for the better over the last 18 months so you can only trust they've brought in a suitable candidate. They seem to do their due diligence with any decision so I'm sure they've done the same here.

I'm sure he will have learnt from his experience at Oldham which reading between the lines was a case of being thrown in the deep end a little. He left Blackpool with good wishes from their fans who suggest he turned the team around in his short stint as caretaker after Grayson's departure, so there's enough to be positive about.

Maybe not a has-been, as he's only 51 (assumed he was older cos of the beard and that hat) - but his last three jobs have ended in relegation or being sacked before the team got relegated. Can't see how that isn't a manager in decline.

David Dunn now confirmed as Barrow manager. Finally we can start to think about next season as we've been in limbo since March.

Some speculation that ex-Leicester manager and well-traveled assistant Rob Kelly will be joining him, which should provide the experience.

Kelly's been linked for the last week and the Blackpool paper have said he will be Dunn's assistant. Kelly is currently Uwe Rosler's No2 at Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Colchester are cutting costs it seems and will be encouraging more use of players from their Category 3 acadmey setup. I can only assume McGreal thought he'd taken them as far as he could.

It's Category Two, and the comment that "the club is going to be implementing a new plan that will see the first team being even more tightly aligned to the Academy" is fairly worrying to be honest - I'm not sure how much more aligned with it we want to be! Last time we tried it to any more extreme level we were relegated.

I think it's about time for McGreal to go, he's had four years and has arguably under-delivered. Finally scraped into the play-offs this season thanks to coronavirus (I'm far from convinced we'd have stayed there otherwise) but we should have performed better than that throughout the four years - always been capable, but never positive enough.

I would expect Wayne Brown to take over.

We basically just haven't offered anybody a new contract, but it was only Nouble, Prosser, Jackson and Comley who were out of contract of the senior players really.

For me, we haven't done too badly and have been as inconsistent as most sides at this level are over the past few years, but I do think a better manager would have had this side promoted by now and it is for that reason I think it is time to freshen it up. However, if the only purpose is to cut costs further and blood in even more youngsters then I think we're settling for midtable mediocrity for the foreseeable which is always a worry when it will only take one bad season to drop out of the 92.

The announcement reads more like McGreal was sacked than that he'd chosen to leave. Finding a manager better suited to bringing players through from the academy could be a factor though.

I have reservations. He may become a very good manager but learning on the job, only done a short stint with Shrewsbury previously.

He is unproven, but I think we need some stability and continuity after the turmoil of the last few months.
