I can see why they are looking to get a manager who can build the club up though, now the cap is in place they will soon only be able to offer 1.5 million (or above in L1) so failure to get promotion now and they won't be able to throw cash at it on big names and even if they do go up they will be far less of an attractive proposition for clubs without the money... Salford up against Gillingham or a local club like Tranmere... where you going to go if the money is the same on offer?

It's not just for fans, it's the general lack of provision for the players in terms of training facilities, sport science, physio etc. They were always going to have trouble keeping up off the pitch given what was going on, on it but it doesn't sound like they've done enough, bar the new stands.

We've had four players go to Salford - Matt Green, Nathan Arnold, Bruno Andrade and Michael O'Connor.

Green didn't like it there - partly because of location, Arnold only made a couple of appearances for them because he did an interview with our local paper and radio saying how unprofessional it was over there and that it surprised him given the noise around them (admittedly they were in the NLN at the time).

O'Connor didn't like it last season either, he lived near me. Facilities being regional league standard for the players, nowhere near professional enough and lots of hangers-on around the place.

It sounds like they have. I thought Salford were doing well ? On another note this sums Olly up. When you played Mansfield last season he waited over 1/2 hour to speak with Coughlan about the Gas. Coughlan never showed up and Olly could'nt believe it. He just wanted to know what was going on at Rovers. Olly could'nt believe Coughlan did'nt make the time to talk about Rovers. I know Ian is a Bristolian & legend but this is a reason we will always love him & not give the time of day to Coughlan.

You don't want him back then?

As in the Class of 92 potentially.

How many are actually that bothered now I wonder.

I guess Scholes must be if he has taken over for a bit..

Rest on TV or in a job and in Becks case running a football club franchise.

They were saying something before the season began too about not spending as much on building up the infrastructure and academy because it wasn't working and they just wanted to spend what it took on players to get them promoted.

The same Ollie who only attends when he's paid by Sky or BT?

Trouble in paradise? Absolutely gutted it isn't working out for him.

I think trouble will mount up unless we get a much better point return in the next 5.

It’s not like we’ve played terrible every game without even trying, like some would led you to believe. We’ve mostly played okay this season but a lot of individual errors (players, manager, referees) have cost us massively. Pressure is on though, he’s gotta prove himself sharply.

Roy Keane rumoured to be next Salford manager. What a fantastic fit. I cannot stand Salford City and I cannot stand Roy Keane. Hope he takes over and they crash and burn together.

Is that because he was there last week?

Keane is third favourite on SkyBet behind Joyce and Allardyce(!).

It'd be worth them asking the question about Paul Cook, he seems to play the kind of attractive, risky football they'd like.

I have to admit, I am surprised. One thing he was good at was making us defensively sound and brought the best out in average players. Mind you, he'd know them for a year or 2 as the coach.

Think I mentioned at the time though that his winning formula really came from luck and tinkering tbh. I was adamant he was reading the forums, every time the fans would suggest something in masses, it'd suddenly happen. Which is how he came by 3-5-2, which all of a sudden clicked.

Will be interesting to see how this turns out, I'd also assume your owners will expect at least midtable by the 10th game?

So if a load of us all create accounts on stagsnet and start talking about how 1-8-1 is the magic formation we can get them relegated?

Absolutely haven't a clue what this post has to do with someone getting the nine, ten, jack at Salford.

Don't worry yourself about this post as its already been answered by a Mansfield fan. I'm sure you've got enough to worry about in trying to get our of Conference North.

Evatt come out over the weekend and slaughtered the team. Saying players are just happy to be at Bolton Wanderers and they think they have made it.
Saying the team is mentally not strong enough no leaders.
Its as simple as this now as far as anyone with any football understanding.
1.....He gets a reaction starting Tuesday at Barrow and its our turning point to kick on in the Evatt revolution.
2... Same system same team, same reaction we lose, the players no bottle, no passion, and Evatt gone very shortly after

Stands to be a very interesting game with Barrow also looking for their first win.

From what I can see early on is that several managers are under pressure already:

Evatt - Bolton
Coughlan - Mansfield
Dunn - Barrow
Kewell - Oldham
Embleton - Orient
Jackson - Tranmere (Possibly)

Plenty of out of work managers with experience avaliable - Quite a few with good track records as well, Graham Alexander, Paul Tisdale, Phil Brown and John McGreal.

I've resigned myself that if we don't at least beat Stevenage this weekend, then the writing will be on the wall for Ross Embleton here, the fanbase are now slowly turning on him after being very patient in the last 12 months. As I keep banging on every week, we just leak so many goals and pick up so many yellow cards due to players being caught out of position and committing last ditch fouls.

Will be a huge shame as unlike most teams whom struggle, our players haven't downed tools and are still fighting tooth and nail and every week to win games and get points, but we just make so many mistakes.

I've already decided I'd like John McGreal to replace him, but it will likely be Colin Calderwood as he turned us down 12 months ago. I'm Sure Cambridge fans will enjoy seeing that!

Is Dunn at Barrow really under pressure already? He hasn't a great record as a manager granted but what expectations did they actually have for this season, they cashed in on Rooney, who was their best player by a country mile last season, they're one of the smallest teams in League 2 surely third bottom would be an acceptable finish this year?

I think the fans are beginning to question whether he's the man to keep them up, any manager with only 3 points after 6 games will be under some sort of pressure, no matter how low the pre-season expectations were.

I presume also Paul Hurst is under some pressure at Scunthorpe

John Dempster is on borrowed time at Mansfield for me too.

Nah, not really under pressure - we've got a lot of very vocal dickhead fans who decided Dunn was the wrong man before he'd even been appointed. It's because he's not arrogant like Evatt, which is how all Barrow managers will be judged from now on. The results have been shite, but our home games should all have been won and our losses have all been by one goal - we're not dreadful, just missing a bit of drive. Probably had 8/9 injuries too.

The board won't be putting pressure in, although two or three more games with no improvement and the pressure will really be heaped on.

Radford is usually very willing to give managers time, but he got stung by leaving it way too late with Dempster, so I reckon GC has very little time left unless we string a few wins out of nowhere.

Looking at our six games, we actually started okay performance wise but fucked it up every time, Orient and Tranmere for example should have been wins, you could argue Stevenage and Newport too but they were even games, Exeter and Bradford we were comfortably beaten.

He’s coming across like one of those managers that doesn’t want to make the changes that are so ridiculously obvious because the fans are shouting for it. Drop Stech for Stone in net, and start Maynard and Cook who are EASILY our best two strikers and potential for one of the best partnerships in the league.

pretty much agree with that - even a loss against Bolton won't add any pressure as he's off with Covid at present... However should Barrow beat Bolton things will look bleak for Evatt - and a defeat by more than 1 goal against a team that previously hadn't won a league game could be a big nail in Evatt's managerial coffin at Bolton....

We're great at offering out turning points to struggling teams, so wouldn't surprise me if Bolton got the win on Tuesday.

We wil either get a reaction and we will bury you...or we will play the same way and if that is the case
Either some/all of our players will go or it will be the start of Evatts departure.
I hope he sees sense and plays some of his better players in a 442

Re Barrow, I said a while ago over the summer when there was talk of playoffs, promotions, titles, golden boots for Quigley etc... just staying in the division or possibly pushing up towards mid table would be a solid first season for them. There is a step up in quality between the 2 divisions now, gone are the days of 10 or so years ago where teams regularly came up from the conference/national league and pissed League 2.

3 points from 6 games isn’t great obviously, but there isn’t much league experience in that team so it might take time to adjust, as long as they don’t go down it’s a decent season. Then next season all the players will have a season of league football under their belts and will be better for it.
