Ryan Giggs soon to enter the job hunt - prefers to stay in the North West.

Feel embarrassed for the bloke. Why go from a traditionally bigger club, with bigger prospects (assuming that FFP is adhered to) to a hobby club for some ex United knobs and their billionaire play mate.

Oh, money. He should hang his head in shame. Complete short term financial gain decision rather than doing a good job at Swindon and giving himself the opportunity to move up with either Swindon or another higher club in the medium term. Will also put off other clubs employing him in the future once he gets sacked by Salford which will ultimately happen. People will know he is only in it for the money.

When Burton first went up to the National League (early 2000s) Northwich were in that league. And Northwich were definitely part time.

I'd hazard a guess and say Leigh RMI, Gravesend, Southport, FGR, Tamworth, Nuneaton etc were all part time too. Perhaps more clubs were too like Dagenham and Morecambe in the early part of the decade? But that's a definite exaggeration.

We first went full time at the start of the 05-6 season.

Truth of the matter is - our last 12 competitive games under Wellens we won 2 and lost 10. He recruited badly in the summer - tbf, this may have been due to financial constraints because of Covid. But instead of toughening it out he’s upped sticks and sold out - which wouldn’t have been so bad but for the stench of hypocrisy after saying only weeks ago that his loyalty towards Swindon shouldn’t be questioned.

Eh? He took over from Phil Brown.

Aren't you the Swindon fan who dislikes Flitcroft? To be fair, I know very little about Swindon, although I do recall Grant being manager. It's a bit of strange way of getting to it. I just wondered what influence if any Flitcroft's recruitment had on your eventual promotion. We had a thing where for several years our best first team players were recruited ages ago by Adam Murray when we had a lower budget.

Well, he had diddly squat. Wellens took over from Brown who jettisoned most of Flitcroft’s signings and Wellens did the same with Brown’s signings. I wouldn’t swear to it but I doubt Wellens had any of Flitcroft’s signings at all.

And, yes, it’s me who detests Flitcroft.

And I don’t know who Grant is.

Phil Grant. That guy who managed Hull.

Are you sure you’re not getting mixed up with Phil and Grant Mitchell from Eastenders?

I did wonder. They would be a good management duo on the touchline. Certainly no worse than the Cowleys.

It's not going to be just money. He's spent nearly all of his playing and managerial career in the NW, he's a Manchester lad, his lad plays for Man Utd so I'm assuming he'll be back with the family and he probably knows the '92' lot from his own time at Man Utd as well.

Haven't Swindon still got an investigation hanging over them as well around the owners and external shareholders/funding? That might be another reason why he's left.

Out of the managers that were without a job and we could realistically get Clough is top for me.

I’m sure he’s bringing in his brother for the recruitment side of things too.
